summary: And for some reason it’s this—the weight of Sokka’s key, cold in his palm—that has Zuko’s eyes blurring with tears, the emotion in his chest almost too heavy to bear.

Zuko wishes he could say something—how much he’ll miss him, how much he hopes he has an amazing time even though it’s killing him that he’s leaving—but the words all get caught in his throat, and he fears if he opens his mouth something like a sob might come out. So he just hugs Sokka back, as tightly as he can, and hopes that’s enough to communicate how he feels.

Zuko and Sokka are roommates and best friends. It isn't until Sokka decides to study abroad for a summer that Zuko realizes how much he means to him.

Fire-Dartist Zuko

The @atla18reversebang was a fantastic experience. I drew this piece of firespinner Zuko:

ID: Most of the image is dark. In the foreground, Zuko is shown from the back, from the knees up. He is spinning a fire prop known as a rope dart. A rope wraps from his wrist around his waist, loosely through his hand at the small of his back, and to right above his shoulder, where the ball of fire at the end hovers mid-spin. Zuko looks towards the fire as it illuminates his face, hair, and shoulder. Zuko is dressed in a ragged vest and pants with chains and buckles. There's an industrial piercing in his ear, and his hair is styled in a fluffy mohawk. He wears a half-glove on the hand manipulating the rope and there's a fire-lily tattoo on his elbow. In the background, a crowd watches in amazement with Sokka, Yue, and Suki at the front. Sokka is wearing a blue and black dress shirt, vest, and top hat costume. Yue wears a purple leotard and skirt with a crescent moon on the chest and a headband, and is holding hands with Suki, who wears green leggings and a green long sleeve cropped shirt with a star on the chest. Sokka spotted flames out of the corner of his eye and was about to panic until he looked over to the stage and processed what was happening. There was a man on the stage, and in the darkness surrounding it, it almost looked like he was spinning fire around using his arms. The closer Sokka got, the more awed he became. Up close, he could see that he wasn’t spinning fire around per se, but rather a rope that had something burning at the end of it, which was somehow even more impressive to Sokka. He watched entranced as the rope snaked around his back, as he threw it forward and swung it from side to side, as it spun in front of him, encircling him in fire.

or, Sokka goes to a con with Suki and Yue, and sees the most mesmerising fire performance, and he absolutely has to talk to the guy. 

Meanwhile, Zuko is freaking out because his online best friend saw him perform at a con and has no idea how it would affect their relationship if he told Sokka the truth.

You know how I was complaining about writing something crazy and winding up shipping it hard by the end? Here it is.
