Kassandra raised a brow, watching the other woman inspect her handiwork. She wasn’t expecting someone to just waltz into the scene like that so quickly after she had finished the job. The man had been trying to obtain the Piece of Eden she had come here to find, and the last thing she needed was some greedy little man getting his mitts on that kind of raw power. 

“It’s a living.” Kassandra replied, still keeping her eye on her. “You seem completely unbothered by all of this. I’m going to take a guess that you’re in a similar line of work.” The misthios observed as she folded her arms across her chest. This woman definitely knew what to look for in a kill, the way she examined the wounds and carefully handled the body.

“And what would that be, exactly?” She asked, holding up a journal that she had already claimed. It contained notes and clues to the location of the Piece of Eden and Kassandra had no intention of letting that go. “If it’s this, then I’m afraid it’s already claimed.”

Alabaster features were unchanging; a mask of practiced and learned neutrality, unbetraying of the thoughts that conspired in the mind that controlled them. The assassin stood up to her full height now--not near as tall as Kassandra, but lean and inhabiting the same stature of a nurtured killer. 

“You could say that,” the assassin allowed, divulging information selectively. “I know my way around.” The words are said slowly, meaningfully, cherry-picked for some sort of verbal dance of the give-and-take of knowledge. There was something odd about this mercenary she had come across.

Athena hadn’t expected her.

The blue eyes, so keen on inspecting the body beforehand, now settled on the journal in the other woman’s hand. 

A discontent hum barely left Athena’s lips. This was inconvenient. 

“I’m guessing you aren’t open to bargaining for that.” Her feet shifted, all too aware now of the choices laying before them. “You’ll find that it doesn’t belong to you,” Athena said pointedly.
