Cursebreaker
ForĀ The She-Wolf of Baker Street, I wrote a section where Audrey Hudson first met Ruby Stockton, the love of her life, to flesh out their relationship and the things that Audrey gained from knowing Ruby. Ā
It got edited out as it didnā€™t quite fit the flow, but here it is as a taster forĀ The She-Wolf of Baker Street!

Even if I didnā€™t have a solid plan, in the back of my head, I always assumed Iā€™d kill myself.
Now Iā€™m an adult and people my age have their lives in order and Iā€™m stuck here, confused, because I never planned to be alive and Iā€™m so far behind.
I feel like Iā€™ll never catch up.

You know, that Mythbusters post legitimately changed my life. Before seeing it, I had exponentially more guilt and stress about not being able to sleep, which of course, further exacerbated my inability to sleep.
Now, every time I wake up about three am, knowing I have to get up at 6.45, instead of stressing and panicking about how my day is going to be sleep deprived and miserable, I just tell myself 'Time to activate Mythbusters Protocol' and lie there with my eyes closed safe in the knowledge that I am measurably reducing later feelings of exhaustion.
And when this happens, about 70% of the time the reduction of guilt and stress means I actually do fall back asleep, so all in all instead of getting only three or four hours sleep, I get five to six and a half.
Which y'know, major improvement in health and energy.

If the fandom is huge I suppose it makes sense? Go to a con for that fandom and people will know those "big" fics. But if your fandom isn't one of the really large or older ones, lord there's so much good writing on AO3 where YOU might be the first comment.
I'd sort for ship, then what you love (angst, fluff, etc), then the length of the fic depending on your time.
People sorting ao3 solely by stats and only clicking on fics with a certain amount of kudos or comments, you will not survive the winter, nor the summer, nor at all, *brings out knife,* run

NO ONE LIVING hasn't been squicked out by something. There's over 7 billion of us, my delights and disgusts aren't universal. So I move on. Don't like the ship? Move on. Don't like____? Move on.
I am not an exception. Neither are you. I don't like it I move on and shut my gob about it because everyone everywhere is squicked out by something and they need to put the thing down and justā€¦motor.

When I was a very suicidal trans activist in Texas, Benjamin Sisko saying ā€œsure, you would [die for your people]. Dying gets you off the hook. The question is: are you willing to live for your people?ā€ changed and possibly saved my life. Itā€™s up there with ā€œif we are going to be damned, let us be damned for who we really areā€ from Picard. Star Trek not only shows us a better world, it teaches us how to make it there

I'm so delighted with my first review for The She-Wolf of Baker Street!!! Ashleigh Meikle says:
"As ancient and modern worlds, mythology and reality collide in this book, I found that this unique Holmesian adventure was brilliantly executed, and managed to traverse the fae traditions in a modern context to allow the story to work well and come to life as part of the Holmesian cannon of literature that has captured the imaginations of many since the stories were first published."
If that sounds like your cup of tea, here are the buy links!

What an amazing sound - Women from the Rugova region in Kosovo are singing to the rhythms of tepsia (copper pan for preparing traditional food). This disappearing minimalistic style was a popular form of singing among communities throughout the Dinara mountain range. Filmed by Japanese ethnographers from the National Museum of Ethnology in Osaka.

There is a special place in hell for all the people behind these bot attacks that harm AO3 and the communities we built.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A reminder that Archive of Our Own is not Instagram or TikTok. It isnā€™t run by a big company with money and power. The site is a non-profit site run by volunteers (fans), for fans. And its main purpose is to bring people within the same fandom together and connect artists with audiences who would love and appreciate these artistsā€™ works. Itā€™s the only platform without any ads, without any censorship, without any of these capitalism bullshit. It doesnā€™t make users pay for any features and the only source of money they get, to keep the site up and running, is through donations. Itā€™s literally a safe place for every fandom.
To think that itā€™s a target just because itā€™s easier to attack than those huge companies is just so sad.
Not to mention that there are so many genuine guest users out there (people who arenā€™t logged in / donā€™t have an AO3 account), and these people are directly affected by this whole thing, because they are no longer able to comment and connect with their favorite creators ā€” and this still affects creators directly because I know for a fact that getting comments and being able to connect with their audience mean the world to them. I donā€™t blame AO3 for disabling guest comments altogether.
I do blame and curse the fuckers behind these bot attacks though.
If you try to sabotage AO3, out of all the other platforms out there, you are pathetic. Youā€™re not just attacking a small, independent company, youā€™re trying to tear apart peopleā€™s communities and safe place. Disrespectfully, fuck you. Burn in hell.
Mad respect to all the brave soldiers that are AO3 volunteers who work harder than god fighting these scums.
I know these brave soldiers will win in the end (they always did, this isnā€™t their first battle, mind you), but in the meantime Iā€™m sending them all my love and respect. They truly are the heroes.
