Here’s a “life-hack” for you. Apparently concentrated Kool-Aid can be used as a pretty effective leather dye. I was making a drink while cutting the snaps off some new straps for my pauldrons and I got curious, so I tried it, thinking, “ok even if this works, it will just wash out.” Nope. It took the “dye” (undiluted) in about 3 seconds. After drying for about an hour and a half, it would not wash off in the hottest tap-water. It would not wash out after soaking for 30 minutes. It did not wash out until I BOILED it, and even then, only by a tiny bit and it gave it a weathered look that was kind of cool. Add some waterproofing and I’d wager it would survive even that. That rich red is only one application too. Plus it smells great, lol. So there you go, cheap, fruity smelling leather dye in all the colors Kool-Aid has to offer.

After the end of the First World War and in view of the defeat of Germany as well as the end of the German monarchy, artists and architects from different spectrums worked for and towards a new society. Among expressionist artists and architects this new society oftentimes should be founded on a diffuse melange of Gothic reminiscences, Germanic mythology and odd fantasies about an advanced civilization based in Atlantis that even before the Greek and Roman Antiquity represented a „Nordic primitive culture“. Among the artists and architects who shared at least parts of this invented histories were Bernhard Hoetger, Fritz Höger, Fidus or Johann Michael Bossard whose buildings and projects represent important yet ambivalent contributions to expressionist architecture in Germany.

Suitably, in 2003 the Paula-Modersohn-Becker-Haus in Bremen’s famous Böttcherstrasse presented the exhibition „Bau einer neuen Welt. Architektonische Visionen des Expressionismus“ that was accompanied by the present catalogue. The catalogue contains a total of 18 essays that address a multitude of artists, topics and ideologies that inevitably belong to the discourse surrounding expressionist art and architecture: Klaus von See e.g. discusses the Böttcherstrasse in Bremen and the mediocre Germano-archaic ideas Ludwig Roselius, the mastermind behind it, and his friend/sculptor/architect Bernhard Hoetger shared. Annemarie Jaeggi on the other hand takes on the early Bauhaus and the expressionist architecture it created. A particularly interesting essay stems from Gerda Breuer who addresses the relationship between expressionist ideologies and politics: Breuer rightly points out that the ideas of a new society and a new humankind hark back to the 19th century and often include ra*ist convictions that were shockingly common at the turn of the 20th century. At the same time the utopian ideas and ideals never turned into practical societal change and it was only in Amsterdam that expressionist architecture actually became the dominant style for a workers’ housing projects.

The present catalogue gathers a broad range of essays and topics that provide perfect starting points for further research into expressionist architecture in Germany and the dubious ideology it was often infused with.

It's alright! Things have been mostly... angering and baffling? The fact that it happened AGAIN right after I posted this page too... Legitimately insane

For positives, I just got hired for a new job, decided to start posting ALL of my clangen stuff on one comicfury comic (with the exception of shatterclan, that stays separate until I decide I'll actually drop it) once per day until it catches up with genuinely everything I've done, AND I live with such awesome people that I'm learning how to feel happy without it being a random dice roll that happens while I'm on meds or a rare feeling when I'm super hyperfocused!?!?

I played some clangen yesterday to calm down and ended up doing some mouse doodles about it :D With uploading my comics one page per day, this will post on September 27. That's... KIND OF INSANE to me. Like sure I draw a lot but whoa...

Shoutout too to the disabilities and disorders clangen mods for being fucking sweet as hell and reminding me that I should not censor my disabilities, even if other people consider them to be "gross" ;-;
