One under-appreciated breed of fic writer are the ones who hyperfocus on logistics to the exclusion of all canon shortcuts, and thus usually strike upon an awesome way to flesh out the worldbuilding or characters.

Like, I’m not necessarily talking realism here since often it’s still pretty far from realistic, but more like, “someone has to be running spies in this fantasy kingdom, and we’ve seen the whole royal court, so which background character is it? How does that change these three major interactions?” Or “real life historical nobility did in fact have some things to do that were like jobs, how does this human disaster cope with running an estate?” Or “there’s no reason for a sci-fi robot detective to know how to whitewater kayak, where’d she learn?” Or “if this guy is serving the emperor directly he has to be way high up in the space empire servant hierarchy, why is he doing this menial task for someone else? What’s his motive? Does he perhaps have the secret space telepathy?”

Anyway I’m always DELIGHTED to find a fic or writer who asks these questions because the fics themselves are universally bangers.

and another thing! Sans and toriel are probably end game, just like undertale

this is gonna be a mess of a post because of misc. Thoughts I have about the game so far, but there is a ton of information that I was sure that was common knowledge but my dash is like confused??? about

Cut because this is pretty spoilery

first off, susie is the main character of the game rn, whether that is the intention of the writing or the intention of characters in the story to make her so, that's what's happening. Second, she is not the third person in the prophecy, it is Obvious. It was December. Susie cannot even wear ribbons like ralsei says 'the girl' in the prophecy can. She disappeared and that is why asgore isnt the chief of police. She is not dead because theres no headstone at the graveyard. Asgore either fumbled looking for her or was the last one to see her alive on top of it (probably the former by the vent conversation). And nobody believes him as to what happened. He lost her in the woods by the bunker and the church, which is why he goes to the church late at night. He got stripped of his authority by carol (hence why she has his leash) and that's what started the fights and eventual divorce by the dreamurrs, it wasn't quick like in undertale (killing seven kids will do that) but as it was slower it ended up messing the family up more. (Hence tennas comments, that living room and kitchen saw a ton of arguments) Asriel dipped the second he could with college to get outta there and because of that (and dess' disappearance rocking the whole town) toriel turned harder to religion and to being a huge helicopter mom to her remaining kid.

Dess is the knight as well, that was obvious. Its also pretty obvious shes on the phone with kris at least once, carol also calls them but i cant quite tell if carol is one to say to a child "you promised".

carol, undyne (asgore) and toriel are the seats of power in the town and the defacto rulers so thats why they have basically the nuclear codes to the shelter. And also why they are being kidnapped.

Ralsei is obviously asriels oc do not steal that he abandoned when he grew up, that is why he acts Like That. Like thats abandonment issues. But maybe the personality is more indicative to an ideal son of toriel so I dont know if it was her direct influence or not.

In the church we hear three leitmotifs in the battle music which is markedly different that susies 'rude buster' theme that is throughout the rest of the world (main character!!!). It is a mix of a theme we havent heard, toriels theme (for asriel probably) and 'im with you in the dark' which is also obviously 100 percent dess' theme.

Noelle also has had to suffer because of a helicopter parent and im sure that unlike tv she turned to the internet for her escapism, thats why queen was obsessed with her. You've got a mom figure that isn't a cold unfeeling bitch and cares about you even if she messes up a lot. Her and carol even look alike in an odd way. The cyber world is also very focused on what Noelle would like and prefer, a bustling City that her sister would eventually take her to, a place of lights, a frankly dream like sequence with her crush. A character arc about how to say No. Even becoming a healer. They're all things she desperately wants. Tenna is more Kris' fun uncle that can distract from a crumbling marriage.

Kris is probably alternate route chara that got Your soul at the end of the genocide route, a soul and human parts. As the theming of the two games is 'as above so below' the humans obviously live underground. Which is where kris came from. They are obviously more of a character as well, as they've known noelle for literally forever and she can see the differences in their behavior between occupation. Their interactions with susie are more than enough to say so. As well, unlike frisk, they have built a life with people who know them at least. Now. Obviously another theme in the game is agency, spamton has it all over him and that's why kris reacts... Badly depending on Your answers at the end of his fight. I don't personally think kris and the soul, you, have a baseline relations around animosity. I think the choices are things kris is thinking about doing anyway, as evidenced by the parts where they are moving without your input being characterized the same as many of the choices. The negative or bad choices are probably the equivalent of intrusive thoughts that You can either act on or not. Also kris has a lot more agency in the choices as with some of the meanest ones they fight against hard to change the context or literally not do. There is a scene when you're almost done with the church where asgore is hiding in a closet and kris turns the knob of the door only when clearly prompted to do more. Also it seems like they need you as they would just leave you in the cage or destroy you if they didn't. It seems like when they're working together with you things are okay, its a weird situation and a willful teen isn't really going to Like it but also I don't really think it's all doom and gloom. Susie indiscriminately likes You and Kris.

They're also framed at being a possible antagonist but I really don't think so, at best they might be playing both sides. They are at heart... Heh.. a good kid, the actions they do without you are at best suspect. What kind of evil twisted cycle path is getting choccy milk? Susie sees through their edgelord shit easy. Ralsei is also absolutely sure You exist and is playing a delicate game of how much to trust You. The piano is a tell about their state of mind as they stop playing with You there because You don't know how. But i mean with piano at least they get to press their own keys for themselves if you get what I mean.
