One more from today. Might change up the sky on this a bit. Not sure how I feel about it. (at Lacombe, Alberta) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqRC6DWPY1_/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

For #PuppyDay you can enjoy some of my adorableness from the first time mum met me, when I picked her, way back in 2015. https://www.instagram.com/p/CqJC-OEvzpZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Two quick flower alphabet ones tonight. Supposed to be chrysanthemums and then black eyed Susan’s. This morning I managed to take off a chunk (about 1cm) of my right ring finger on the mandolin slicer. Not enough to warrant a hospital visit, but enough that it will take a long time to heal and will definitely be annoying while trying to move next week 😐. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp9TUqKui3-/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

My parents and nephew are here now, and moving is getting rather imminent, so I’m not sure how much time I’ll have for painting in the next two weeks. But, I did use $40 that my grandma gave me unnecessarily to pick up this little Winsor & Newton travel palette in Calgary yesterday. And it is delightful to paint with 🥰 https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp6yP9aulu-/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Been channelling the creativity into a miniature building project the last two days. Using a steak knife because I don’t have a proper hobby saw 😂 (at Lacombe, Alberta) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp0wvlUvi0e/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Everything was going along swimmingly, until I decided to attempt to make the yellow butterfly into a monarch except I don’t actually remember what their patterns are 😂 (at Lacombe, Alberta) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpwehDKOCcZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Lilacs, but the leaves are weird and it’s too symmetrically conical. https://www.instagram.com/p/CpssYQhPGeH/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Another perspective sketch this morning, that included a lesson in mental health as well. As I started this sketch I said to myself “I should learn to draw these without a ruler.” And I proceeded to follow the instructions in a tutorial video where the teacher does not use a ruler. When I got to the end it was ok, but I was annoyed by some of the angles that I hadn’t got quite right because drawing long very straight lines is hard! So I got out my ruler to figure out a few so I could apply the shading in the right places. And then my brain flipped a switch on 💡 Why does it matter if I use a ruler? It doesn’t. Who is saying I “should”? Me. Who cares if I use a ruler in my perspective drawings forever more? No one that matters. Maybe I won’t always have a ruler with me, but there’s almost always something lying around that has a clean edge that can be used. I like my lines extremely clean and straight, and the perspective angles too. I’m still learning to understand the concept of perspective, even if I use a ruler. Stop “shoulding” all over yourself.
