➶-͙˚ ༘✶ ... purple matter is a fictional co-ed project group launched by timeslip the label and edelweiss entertainment in 2020. it is the third group operating under the label, following the major success of its other acts. the concept of purple matter relies heavily on its seasonality and limited edition nature, with only 1-2 comebacks per year, including subunit releases, and shorter promotional periods than most groups. the original line-up consisted of edelweiss indie pop artist fern, timeslip contemporary r&b and hiphop soloist igor, as well as weiss x model-turned-artist kiel. following her loss on girls planet 999, dion was later soft-launched as a member in december 2021, featuring in the group's winter special single. she was formally added to the lineup in june 2022 for their first comeback of the year.

the group is marketed as a “space” for individual creatives to come together and create something impactful for the universe, hence the group name. this also aligns with their futurism/nostalgia and magic realism theme.

commercially, purple matter does more good to its members than the group as a whole. that was its initial objective anyways — to provide more fame to its members and kickstart or boost their solo careers. the subunit release 7pm with fern and igor is a prime example of the virality the group is aimed to achieve. when dion debuted in really, really, the effect was doubled due to her more proactive fanbase. since the group only operates for a total of less than half a year together, the individual members benefit from any commercial success through their solo activities. numerous followers of the label call it the “sinkhole” for flopping, displaced or mismanaged edelweiss artists. despite the benefits that the members receive from the project group, a cohort of fans also question if timeslip will ever have plans of solidifying the group and maintaining them as a permanent act, especially with the addition of dion.
