in the flesh was such a unique show that delivered every single emotional punch it threw AND with the most complex beautiful characters and a canon gay main character who finds love and a willingness to live after so much pain. holding on to little bits of joy amongst poignant inherently tragic circumstances. and yes it's about zombies reintegrating into society. which sounds wacky but. but it was deeply profound. it was about learning to love being alive, despite it all. recognizing the love that exists around you in all its forms, in unexpected places. making the choice to try, to care, to understand, to reach out your hand, despite every odd against you. my god i miss it so much. we moved on too fast and it deserved so many more seasons

Key takeaways:

1. Sam was initially pissed over DreamStat, because the second half is meant to be about Louis and Claudia, but he came around to the idea once he understood DreamStat was an extension of Louis and a fuller picture of the parts of Louis' relationship with Lestat that Louis didn't want to acknowledge.

2. The photograph scene in 2x04 was a key DreamStat scene, because it truly encapsulated the love and trust that Louis had with Lestat and how much Lestat saw Louis for himself and allowed Louis to be his true self without shame or compromise.

3. Armand's version of Lestat's and Nicki's dynamic is not true at all.

Happy Black History month! I rarely make booklists like this, however, it recently came to my attention that some people aren’t aware of the brilliant subgenre that is gothic/horror written by people of global majority (colour), given it is black history month this list focuses on black people vampire stories written by black people, most of which are also queer (cause vampires are queer af). Allyship is the bare minimum, if we as a society are to grow at all from our forefathers we must understand that our ancestors were flawed, unlearn internalized biases (racism etc), and make intersectional spaces for everyone. I’ve kept it to 10 for my own ability to count everything, I can say with most certainty there’s more out there. These are just the ones I’ve read/watched and have influenced me the most.
