The thing about these humans in particular is that they come from a place where androids have rights. The treatment of secunits/androids by the society(/ies) secunits are used in is seen as slavery there because they are known to be sentient (and likely also know at least a tiny bit about the fact that a punishment system is built in them considering they are researchers, though I imagine the tech is proprietary) on their home planet. They protest the assignment of a secunit, but if course it is mandatory for them to carry out their research so they still get one. (As a sidenote, I'm sure that stories of units going rogue was also a concern, and perhaps worries of being sabotaged or monitored by MB's owners/operators as well but my point still stands.)

Yes, for the first time they can now see a real secunit android in front of them and can see how human it is, but they also come from a culture where this is already strange and highly unethical and were never taught that androids were only objects – as MB's previous clients would have been – because they aren't; this belief is propaganda by the corporations who offer the security/sex work services. They were likely already looking for signs of sentience and free will.

I recon some of them would have had much lower estimations of the moral bankrupcy of it all than the reality would attest to, but at most they would have hit reality itself rather than a worse (because, really, how much worse can it get? Not much). I'm sure at the beginning they likely would have been having an uncertain pause of 'maybe it's just how secunits...' where they questioned whether all secunits were this wettedly beasted or whatever, but in the end they are smart and dilligent people from a liberal society, and the conclusion they all reached was inevitable and inevitably soon.

MB is no doubt an atrocious actor – after all, it takes a specific kind of person/android to find themself in the type of situation it did – but it is a secunit so it doesn't need to be a good one. Expectations and assumptions already do most of the heavy lifting for it; it only needs to not obviously contradict those expectations and it will be overlooked – when it comes to most clients, anyhow. Now, if somebody who did not have any biases at all – perhaps not knowing what a secunit is, coming from some very distant or isolated culture where they have no androids, and so on... would they notice MB's strange behaviour, too? I'm inclining toward a most likely. MB's unrealiability when it comes to its own perception of self is shown again and again throughout the series to be wack at best, but it is important to look at the background of these humans to understand why they clocked it almost instantly because it is not coincidental.

I have now read All Systems Red from The Murderbot Diaries, and I think the main charm of it is I went in fully expecting a "Humans treat robots like appliances then some of them slowly learn not to because of This One Special Example" but instead the crew immediately goes "No, Murderbot is a person. Look at it, it's got anxiety."

Meanwhile, Murderbot itself is like "Why was I cursed with a face. Please treat me like an appliance so I don't have to make eye contact with any of you. I've got anxiety."
