Odin and Frigga did not lie to Loki to protect him from "the truth", they lied to protect themselves from the fact they could never love a jotunn.

Hear me out: why is his heritage something so horrible and dangerous he should be protected from it? So the asgardians don't turn on him? Are you telling me that the king and the queen in an absolute monarchy couldn't do anything to protect Loki from asgardians' hatred? Odin couldn't pass laws that would protect jotunn lives, couldn't influence the public into slowly accepting jotunns, couldn't even try to make Asgard a safer place for the people of Jotunheim? Looking at TR, it took a single play that portrayed their jotunn prince as a hero for at least the majority of them to at very least accept him for who he is. But Odin and Frigga couldn't do anything? And even if they couldn't, wouldn't it be wise to let Loki know as he grew older, so he can avoid what happened in T1 (you know, accidentally revealing himself). But no, they didn't. They wanted Loki to think that he wasn't a jotunn. They wanted for him to stay white (not blue) even in private, to look like an asgardian kid 24/7, to never learn his heritage, never ask about it, never express it. Because it wasn't Loki they were protecting. They were the ones who never accepted a jotunn child. They were the ones who couldn't bear a reminder of his true heritage. They saw him being a jotunn as something he should be protected from because they saw jotunns as something horrible and dirty, and something not to be associated with their kids.

I wanna remind you that they told their sons stories of how evil and beast-like jotunns are. And maybe, hear me out again: they didn't try to change the way asgardians saw jotunns because they didn't see them any different themselves.
