unalaq’s eyes soften as he sees mascarpone,    leaning down to scratch her chin with a gentle finger.    ticasuk coos,    a pleased vocable,    and cocks her head at n in tacit acknowledgment.    he straightens up and,    as usual,    clasps his hands habitually behind his back. to clean up the city is a noble and admirable task.    humans like to leave little traces of themselves wherever they go, some more harmful than others.    sometimes it is the remains of a seasonal settlement, and sometimes it is synthetic superflux completely alien to the natural way of things.    sometimes it’s a napkin.    or twelve.   million. 

❝    mascarpone seems to have some good ideas,    ❞    he chuckles merrily,    ❝    i’m here on champion’s duties.   nothing particularly exciting.    i thought i would give castelia a closer look while i have the time    —    it appears this little sidequest of mine has yielded some interesting results.    ❞    ticasuk nudges him again and he lays a hand on her silky smooth head, massaging it fondly with his thumb. she’s clearly gotten a bit jealous with his affections, though not to the point of obsession. he would never let it go that far. after all, these are creatures under his care, and much like his children, it is his responsibility to nurture them and let their personalities shine.

❝    did you want someone with you today?    i have some time, and ticasuk can be quite resourceful, though i’m sure she wouldn't agree.    ❞    the milotic lets out a breathy sigh,    almost in an embarrassed scoff.

     an excursion led by the espeon that pranced to     &͟.     fro in the city’s plaza,     her stubby tail wagging this way     &͟.     that whilst she traversed the crowd of people that had gathered to watch the street performers in earnest,     wiggling ‘tween legs,     weaving expertly ‘gainst the horde to grab trash     &͟.     prance back to her trainer as so to allow him to throw it in the nearest trash can,     where it belonged——     a task she’d taken up herself,     for the wellbeing of the wild pokémon that traversed the plaza after the festivities were to die down     &͟.     who was n to not indulge her when it came to her aims?     another piece of garbage into the nearest can     &͟.     then her trek back to where she’d been previously,     to gather yet another water bottle or piece of food to bring back.     with the utmost placidity he fixates on her task,     kneels down to take the junk from her jaws when she presents it to him     &͟.     mindlessly throws it away whilst his gaze remains locked unto her form     /     just in case she need to be saved in some way:     for fear that she might get trampled if the mob moves unexpectedly.     (     he’s prepared for the worst,     even though he’s aware of her remarkable capabilities.     )

     ‘fore he knows it she’s done,     her expression pleased     &͟.     gratified as she pads back to his side,     more than ready to head out on their next journey.     it doesn’t exactly startle him,     when he turns to make his escape     &͟.     is met with a familiar face but there is a brief moment of befuddlement that overcomes expression,     emerald hues searching briskly o’er countenance,     brow furrowed     &͟.     just like that:     recognition      /     an unspoken remembrance,     one that extends even to mascarpone,     who elicits a joyous sound,     reminiscent of a feline’s purr. 

     ❝     we’ve all been doing okay,     but——     what are you doing here?     ❞     not because he’s unhappy to see him,     no,     the opposite of that,     but because their meetings are few     &͟.     far in between     &͟.     it’s seldom when they occur like this,     unexpectedly with no prior arrangements made.     ❝      mascarpone had plans to clean up the city today,     apparently,     we were just about to head out.     ❞
