“Well then lucky for us, we’re complete strangers. You can’t make a stranger your enemy, it’s not proper etiquette or something like that.” Dohyun smiled and carefully retrieved the dice from the box. He considered swapping the plain white and black standard pair with the carefully crafted black and gold pair in his pocket, but he thought against it. Those weren’t a pair he debuted too often, and the occasion just didn’t seem fit enough.
“You sure you want to admit to your opponent that you don’t remember all the rules?” He raised a curious brow and offered up another smile. “Anyways, we’ll roll to see who goes first, then I guess we’ll go around the board once before buying property?”
Reluctantly he grabbed the pair of (subpar) dice and gently rolled them around in the palm of his hand. If he were to break down all of the number combinations, the probability of him rolling two sixes were relatively low, but that was just a minor inconvenience. He grew quiet, and focused his attentions towards the board and the sound of the dice rolling comfortably in his hand. He wanted a high number. He wanted a twelve, and he knew that if he flicked his wrist in a particular way, the outcome would read…
“Seven…Seven? I rolled a seven?” Dohyun felt his pulse quicken as he added up the numbers on the die. One of his rolls had been a six, and yet the other had only been a one. It shouldn’t have been possible, but the numbers don’t lie. He quickly pulled himself together and looked up at his opponent. “Y-Youre turn.”
“well, i think that some people would actually disagree with you about that,” he offered with a small laugh and a shake of his head. he was quite sure that there were many people out there who instantly just hated everyone they came across and made enemies of everyone they had ever come into contact with. jaehyun wouldn’t even be surprised if he came across such types in this new school. and those people were probably the ones you should be keeping an eye on as everyone around him had powers now.
jaehyun shrugged his shoulder, “why shouldn’t i tell you? it’s better than lying about it and saying that i remember them all.” unless this was the sort of person who would take advantage of him just because he didn’t know the rules and thought he wouldn’t notice something against the rules happening.
now he supposed that he was playing, jaehyun sat himself down, hands held patiently in his lap while he waited for the other guy to roll the dice. seven, he noted, once the dice had landed and settled properly. but he did notice the way this guy said the number, like he was surprised bu the outcome, and not in a good way. “were you expecting something different?” jaehyun wondered as he moved to pick the dice up off the table. how could he, though?
jaehyun simply decided to push it from his mind, not even thinking about his own roll too much. letting the dice drop from his hand after a couple of shakes. “eight,” his shoulders sagged a little, realising that it was just above what he had needed to go first. it was just going to be one of those games, wasn’t it?

Ara’s eyes practically bugged out of her head when Jaehyun jumped from her presence, the whole scene looking like it was a scene from a comedy movie. It was quite hilarious to witness his reaction and it look a lot out of her not to burst into a giggle fit. Her lips curved inward to avoid any kind of reaction to how tight he gripped his own lunch.
“But your not dead so it’s fine.” She was so nonchalant about things and people’s comments, just allowing herself to munch on her sandwich after the offer was denied. Her attention was on him as he continued to answer her open question.
She listened, not fully understanding his childish annoyance of something so little but she wasn’t going to react with a snarky remark since she was already jealous he had a roommate.”At least you aren’t alone. I’m kinda bummed I wasn’t assigned a roommate.” Of course there was a pout on her lips when she literally stuffed one half of her sandwich in her mouth. Just thinking about it made her roll her eyes. Of course not everyone is fond of roommate but she would have liked one.
“He is nice at least? Some of the other students here don’t sit well with me… “Probably why they have some in a different dorm.” There were not a lot of students but enough to make comparisons and analyse one who are near her. Honestly there are a few she is already worried about but apparently its a normal thing for mutants. But that wasn’t the topic to really focus on right now since everything is still new to everyone.
“Have you gotten your schedule yet? I swear makes me feel like I’m in high school again.”
he did noticed that ara seemed to find the fact he had almost given him a heart attack rather hilarious. “it’s not funny,” he huffed once he had calmed down, narrowing his eyes at her as a folded his arms stubbornly across his chest. she might have been trying to hide it and not laugh, but it was still obvious that she had found it amusing all the same.
“yeah, but i could have died. and then what would you have done, huh? you might get kicked out for murdering another student.” not that he thought he could actually die from someone scaring him, especially not as he was supposed to be lucky and that was not really a very lucky thing to happen.
now he had gotten over his small heart attack, jaehyun just tried to distract himself from the embarrassment for a moment by nibbling around the edge of his sandwich. but he paused as ara spoke again, glancing over towards her. “you’ll probably get assigned one eventually. they only have so many dorms in this place,” no doubt they were going to get more students and the first batch weren’t going to be the only ones. more mutants were popping up every day, from what he had heard, anyway.
“he’s.. alright i guess, not the best roommate. a little grumpy,” but it was nothing he couldn’t live with. “the ones in the different dorm have dangerous powers, from what i’ve heard,” but he didn’t like the gossip about such things. just because they might have dangerous powers didn’t mean they were horrible people or anything. the power didn’t define the person and that is what he really believed.
“i only just graduated from high school,” he responded with a small laugh, “so it’s nothing i can’t manage.”

hwan turned the bar over, showing the wrapper, “milk chocolate. i only like sweet chocolate.”
ever since he could remember, he always liked sweet things. he could put up with tart or sour things, but anything bitter was a no go. he surprisingly could put up with salty things. he remembered when he was first adopted by his mothers, they struggled to find something he would really eat. he seemed to only want sweet things, but eventually they got him to eat other things that were actually good for him.
the chocolate he got was just some popular brand from america he got at the convenience store when he went into the city. he had to stock up on the sweets so he wouldn’t have to go back too often, “the best way to make friends is to offer chocolate, right?”
the smile on his face widened just a little when he saw what sort of chocolate it was. “the superior chocolate,” he agreed with a small nod of his head, “i don’t understand how people can like dark chocolate. bitter chocolate just doesn’t even sound right.”
of course, he wasn’t one to really judge people who liked dark chocolate, but he knew that he could never enjoy it himself. and it was not even that he didn’t like bitter food, he didn’t mind bitter food, but chocolate should be sweet and nice and not bitter. and, usually, jaehyun was quite happy to eat anything and wasn’t one to complain about what he was putting into his mouth, but bitter chocolate really was something that he knew he just couldn’t eat.
“i suppose it is a good way to make friends,” a small laugh left his mouth, “not many people are going to say no to chocolate. myself included.”

Well, here he is. Finally, supposedly.
After suffering from a massive continuous whiplash due to the first impression he’s getting of this institute, Bogum had actually longed for nothing more than finally unpack his shit and maybe fall asleep with one of his comic books thrown over his eyes. The buildings themselves were impressive and watching so many people who were just like him but at the same time so very different from him… he wouldn’t say it was too much but for a boy who has lived in a small town all his life, it surely was a lot.
Not that he’d ever say it out loud. He has an oversized ego compensating for his lack of confidence that he has to protect.
Either way, here he is now, finally, retrieving his heavy rucksack from where he had lazily left it near the door. But rather than being able to just throw himself onto the bed and thrive through the very epitome of teenage laziness, he finds himself in front of a dilemma.
Staring at the bunk beds, he realises he had absolutely forgotten that he’s rooming with someone. It took not knowing which bed is his and the appearance of said roommate when Bogum least expected it, to remind him of that. Now he’s standing there awkwardly, frowning, and staring at the other male. “Uh…”
Smart, very smart, Bo. “Hi.” An awkward pause. “Who are you? I mean, what’s, what’s your name? You’re the roommate, right? Did you pick a bed already?”
jaehyun had been a little put down when he found out that he would have to share a room with someone else, but he was still slightly optimistic. though he did know that it was a draw when it came to what sort of roommate he was going to end up with and if he was actually going to end up getting along with them or not. maybe he would get lucky and would end up with someone who was really nice and they wouldn’t end up having any issues. that is what he was hoping, anyway.
when he first arrived, however, pushing open the door with anticipation, he found the room empty and his roommate was nowhere in sight. which was a little disappointing as he had spent some time outside the door hyping himself up to go in.
wrinkling his nose just a little, jaehyun huffed as he put his heavy rucksack down on the ground for the time being. he thought it would be rather rude of him just to pick a bed before his roommate even arrived. he didn’t know what sort of roommate they would be or which bed they might want. so, he was just going to wait for them to arrive first so they could decide amongst themselves.
thankfully, he didn’t have to wait for too long. hearing the door soon clicking over, jaehyun turned around towards the door, smiling at the new face which had just walked in.
first impressions was that this guy was young. jaehyun honestly wouldn’t be surprised to find out he was younger than he was. it was surprising that people younger than him actually were in this school. but just because he might be younger didn’t mean that was going to be a problem, they could still get along.
“yes, that’s me, your new roommate,” he introduced himself with a smile and a small bow, “jeon jaehyun. nice to meet you. but no, i haven’t picked a bed yet, i was waiting for you to arrive just in case you had a preference or anything. i don’t mind.”

The card that would be funniest? Haneul had no idea what cards would be funny, especially once the card was read out again. Ad the sneers were being read out, Haneul looked over at this cards, half trying to understand them, and half just trying not to make out obvious which card was his.
The cards were read out, and he managed not to furrow his eyebrows in confusion. Nine of the cards were really all that funny. If anything they were a little mean and some didn’t even make sense to him. But other people chuckled.
At least if this game was subjective, then it wouldn’t so hard to just put down a card at random. Everyone’s taste in humor was different. “I don’t mind playing with you,” Haneul said quietly. If the guy won all the time, then it didn’t really matter what he needed to put down, which, in Haneul’s books, was great. He didn’t need to worry about making the right move under all these judgemental eyes. “I don’t really play games often,” he shrugged, wondering if that was weird of him.
shifting just a little so he could cross his legs a little tighter, jaehyun frowned as he read over the cards other people had put down. he didn’t really think many of them were very funny. he really couldn't understand how people thought things that were so offensive to people were funny in the slightest. they were just rude most of the time.
now he had explained the game for this other guy, jaehyun was hoping that he would understand how to play now. but the teen had a feeling that something else was up as well, frowning softly as he tried to read the expression on his face as he looked at the card’s himself. maybe he just didn’t understand how any of this was funny, either.
“well, you are unlike most people then,” he just offered with a warm smile. it was nice to have someone say that to him, though jaehyun was sure that the opinion would change eventually. no one liked losing all the time, and when jaehyun was around, they did always tend to do that even if they tried their hardest. “i don’t really play games often, either,” he continued, eyeing the next black card which was out down in front of the group before glancing at the white cards in his hand. then he looked over towards the other for a moment, almost leaning more to try and see what his own hand was. “want me to help pick one?”

@atxclover
this entire week was a tailspin in all honesty. a lot of new people and the entire place was just so new. he was full of excitement and curiosity, but sometimes he just wanted to sit down and enjoy himself in some quiet, just watching people.
his favorite snack was chocolate, but it had to be milk chocolate. he preferred sweets and dark chocolate was too bitter and white chocolate left a weird after taste. he had several different types of chocolate he kept with him.
hwan opened the package and broke off a piece. he saw someone heading his way. while he wanted quiet, he did actually hate being alone, so he held up the chocolate bar, “you want a piece?”
jaehyun had felt as though he had met any many people in one go more than he ever had in his life. the amount of mutants in this place was almost astounding to him and he had never had any idea how many of them there really were out there in the world. and how many different mutations there really were and how people could still be so diverse and different.
but meeting so many new people and joining this new school was rather overwhelming for him and he was struggling to take it all in. the boy often found himself wandering around by himself when he had the time, trying to simply clear his head and not think so much about how much his life had changed.
walking with his hands in his pockets, suddenly he was jogged from his current thoughts by a voice, looking up to see someone holding out a chocolate bar. and surprisingly, he was being offered some. “you’re offering me some of your chocolate?” he wondered, “though the breaking question is what kind of chocolate is it?”

The entrance of the newcomer was expected, and more than welcome in his eyes. Coincidentally, he had pretty much finished setting up the board and pieces to his liking, leaving very little left for him to set up
“I’d have to disagree, rather than make enemies I find it as a wonderful way for you to learn about other people”. He placed the last few orange bills down on the other side of the table and regarded the other person with interest. “You can learn a lot about a person based on how they react under pressure.”
It was a truth that he had come to learn over the years he had spent playing against others in high stakes games such as this. No matter how cool, calm, and collected someone appeared to be, they would always show their true selves the moment something didn’t go their way. It gave him an almost jaded view of the world, but he had enough sense to know that not all people were built that way. After all, it wasn’t as if his former opponents were what one would classify as upstanding citizens.
“I bet I could learn more about you in a simple 30 minute game of monopoly, than I could during another painfully awkward icebreaker.” He looked away for a moment, taking great care to place the silver cat piece on the “GO’ space, “So, it’s up to you I guess?”
jaehyun frowned just a little as he stood there, folding his arms across his chest as he stared at the guy and his monopoly board. “clearly you have never played a game against family members,” though, admittedly, jaehyun could barely remember playing with his family as it was long before the crash and long before he was adopted by the jeon’s. “when you already know each other, the only way to go is to enemies territory.”
and because he hadn’t played monopoly in such a long time, he knew he was going to be a little rusty on the rules. but, no doubt his mutation would come and save the day and he would end up getting some lucky rolls all the same. and that was the annoying thing about the situation. though because no one here really knew him, and didn’t know what he could do, they weren’t avoiding him when it came to games... yet. jaehyun wasn’t counting on how long that was going to last one his mutation came to light and everyone knew he was the lucky guy on campus.
he knew that being asked to play was going to come next, but jaehyun still hesitated for just a moment, almost studying the guy for a moment longer. admittedly, he didn’t really want someone to know all about him, but then again he also didn’t think he was going to learn that much just from playing a simple game of monopoly. and maybe he could keep his luck manipulation a secret and he wouldn’t find out and hate him for cheating and not telling him.
“i guess i can play one game,” he offered after a moment, moving closer to grab the car piece and place it carefully next to the cat already on ‘go’, “but forgive me, i haven’t played this in so long and i don’t think i can remember all the rules.”

‘oh thank the blessed heavens’ she thinks as he grabs her hand allowing her to help him up. if he hadn’t that would have been extremely embarrassing. so much so iseul would probably go out of her to make sure that no one from that group ever saw her again.
a quick wriggle of her fingers in the form of a wave is given to the group, a rushed ‘goodbye’ slipping past her lips as they leave. and as soon as they’re out of the vicinity of the said dreaded game of truth or dare, she speaks up. “forgive me. i’m hoping that i didn’t just pull you from an exciting and riveting game of truth or dare, but i could not sit there any longer.”
of course that was one of her main worries, that perhaps the male was not in fact sending out s.o.s calls in the form of sighs. perhaps he was ready to spill his deepest, darkest secrets. though it was something that was not high on iseul’s to-do list.
“jo iseul,” she introduces herself, a hand stretched outwards for a quick handshake. “since i’ve established that we’re friends to everyone else, i’d like it if you took me up on the offer of being friends- of course with your consent this time.”
it would have been pretty awkward for the both of them if he just turned down the whole thing and stayed where he was. but jaehyun was thankful and he was not about to pass up an opportunity to get out of this awkward game and keep his secrets to himself.
following after the other, he did feel a lot more relaxed as soon as he was away from the group, letting out a short breath of relief. thankfully he didn’t have to reveal anything he didn’t want to and they hadn’t even gotten the chance to dare him to do something he didn’t want to. “no, it’s fine. thank you for saving me,” he smiled, making sure to show how grateful he was for the help, “i didn’t really want to be playing that game.”
the only people who would be getting any truths out of him was people he actually trusted. and as he was yet to trust anyone in this new environment and didn’t know anyone, it was going to take some time for him to get to trust anyone enough to share a secret with them.
“jeon jaehyun, nice to meet you,” he returned with his own name, sticking his hand out to grab the one offered and give it a shake. “and yeah, i suppose i could do with some friends in this place. i don’t think i could survive just being a billy no mates.”

atxhaneul:
Haneul flushed as he was being addressed. At least it wasn’t loudly and it didn’t draw the attention of anyone else. Was it that obvious that he didn’t know what he was doing?
Taking a moment to think about it, he supposed it was rather easy to tell. From taking significantly longer to read and understand the cards’ meanings, to just generally not knowing any references, Haneul supposed that it wouldn’t be difficult for experienced game-players to pick out someone who didn’t know what he was doing.
Even then, he hadn’t had the time to decipher all of the cards yet. He shook his head, “No, not really. I haven’t really played this game before.” Or any other popular game, honestly. But he wasn’t about to be the person to out himself as an clueless nut.
The next round was starting already, so Haneul picked up a card, ‘Grandma’, he’s pretty sure the card said, and placed it face-down in the center of the table before even reading the black card. There wasn’t much point in reading the card. By the time he finished reading g the card, he would be the last person to put down a card.
Hopefully there didn’t need to be a lot of logic to choose a card. Otherwise his would be the card that didn’t make sense again. While he was waiting for the cards to all be put on the table he looked over to his left, “Do you play these games often?” Might as well try and make some friends, otherwise he was going to live his whole life as a loner.
jaehyun would have thought that everyone would have at least heard of this game before. it was more or less famous all around the world, while jaehyun himself had never played before he had at least heard of the title before it was pulled out, the only reason he hadn’t played it before was because it just didn’t sound like the sort of game he would enjoy.
“well, if it makes you feel any better, i haven’t played this game before, either,” just small words of encouragement to maybe make the guy feel better. it was always nice to know, in his opinion, that you were not alone in something and there was someone else sitting the exact same boat as you.
glancing between the card which had just been placed down, jaehyun gazed at his own hand for a moment, reading them over as he tried to decide which would be best to put down. “basically, you have to try and put down the card which you think would be funniest,” he explained, trying to put it in as simple terms as he could manage for the guy to try and understand how to play. it was no fun if you were just putting random cards down with no idea what you were doing.
deciding just to put down a random card of his own, jaehyun looked over at the question, shrugging his shoulders, “not really. not many people want to play any sort of card game or board game with me. they get tired of losing. but i can’t help winning. it’s not my fault.” maybe it would be his fault if he had some control over his power. but he didn’t. “i take it you don’t play these games very often, yeah?”

Ara is looking chic and fresh like a Gangnam heiress but as she joins the lunch hall with everyone else, its as clear as day how awkward she really feels. She smells varies things and sees other options but all she grabbed for was a cold sandwich and an canned coffee. The kitchen was honestly really big but it also didn’t have that appeal of a typical school cafeteria; it was something she liked about it in honesty. However Ara didn’t know where to really place herself, doesn’t really know what to do for the last few days.
Though when she scans open tables and other off by themselves, she saw a familiar face who she was actually going to meet up later. Maybe he wouldn’t mind if I sat with him?
Her and Jaehyun have exchanged a lot of small talk over the course of this week since they were in groups often when things switched around. It helped knowing someone when the staff would concern over her for no reason. Ara was annoyed of the pestering but she knew they had good intentions.
“Hey.” She walked up with a smile her face holding her lunch in hand and just taking a seat next to him, “What tour did you go on when we last talked?” Asking as she opened her coffee, even opening her sandwich, offering some to the other.
getting used to this school and all the different people was just a little bit of a challenge, but at least he wasn’t the only one suffering. everyone seemed to be fighting their own challenges with being around new people, other mutants and all the new classes they were going to have to be taking. while jaehyun was usually pretty good in school and was at the top of the class, he didn’t really know how that was going to last with these mutant classes.
those such things were busy scrolling through his head like a billboard as he sat in the cafeteria for lunch. he nibbled aimlessly around the edge of the sandwich in his hand, clearly so lost in thought that he didn’t even notice someone else coming over and even sitting down next to him.
so, when he finally did realize that there was something next to him, jaehyun almost jumped out of his seat, making an indent in his sandwich with his fingers from where he suddenly gripped it harder from surprise. though, he did calm down a little when he actually recognized who it was who had just sat down next to him. “jesus, you scared the living daylights out of me.”
taking a moment to control his breathing again, jaehyun put his food down, waving a hand as he was offered some of her food. “took a tour around the dorm rooms and found out i’m staying with an actual child,” which was maybe harsh of him to say, the kid was only a couple years younger than he was, but still.

“hey guys, i’ve got a bit of a headache, my friend and i are gonna go get some water,” she says, catching the attention of most of the group. it was no secret that no one knew each other, so it was likely that they picked up on her white lie in an instant, but iseul was so adamant on leaving, no one could really stop her.
she nudged the male next to her, climbing to her feet and offering him a hand to help him up. “come on, let’s go.”

truth or dare was not a fun game and it never had been. it usually only ended up making him incredibly uncomfortable and he was not very willing to let loose all his secrets and let people know anything they wanted about him. it was bad enough when he was playing with friends, but this was against complete strangers and he really wasn’t very willing to tell them whatever they wanted. how he had even gotten roped into this in the first place was beyond him.
squirming somewhat uncomfortably where he sat, jaehyun let out a rather disressed sound when he realised that it was getting close to being his turn. the most he was hoping for was that maybe his luck would come and save him and they wouldn’t ask anything super personal or give him some dangerous dare.
though someone else seemed to save him, lying about him being her friend so he could have an opportunity to get out of this game.
for a moment he stalled, blinking as the situation set into his head before he realized everyone was staring at him. “oh,” he mumbled, reaching up to take the offered hand and pull himself to his feet, “right yeah”

With this in mind, Dohyun didn’t think twice about grabbing the game and settling himself down at an empty table. He was tempted to play around with things so that someone would show up quicker, but he decided to let life run its natural course and save his energy for his game. He took a deep breath and began setting up the board and pieces, taking care to carefully concentrate on his surroundings. Someone was coming, and he’d rather not waste more time.
jaehyun had managed to slip himself away from everyone else for awhile, deciding that he had quite enough of playing all these games as a way of bonding. during his short time at this institution, he could quite happily say that it was not really what he was expecting. and he also had no idea how many other mutants there were in the world, so many more people like him. not that he had any idea he was any different than normal until a couple of weeks ago and the shock of learning that he was a mutant was still settling.
taking his time to wander through the winding corridors of the building, jaehyun made sure to try and familiarise himself with everything. while he had already been taking on a tour with a group of others, he wanted to go back, go over everything again just to make sure that he knew where everything was so he didn’t end up getting lost when he was in a rush.
shoving his hands into the pockets of his hoodie, jaehyun started to hum to himself, neck craning to look through every doorway he was passing on either side. but, eventually, his feet pulled himself to a stop when he saw one room empty besides one person who seemed to be setting up a monopoly board by themselves. no, jaehyun wouldn’t lie and say he wasn’t curious about it, so he slowly entered the room, inching closer to the stranger over the game board.
“monopoly?” he spoke up when he was close enough, being careful to try and not scare the other suddenly, “i don’t think that’s the best choice of game to bond with people. isn’t that the game where you end up making enemies more than anything?” jaehyun had only ever played it once before with his family when he was younger, but by the end of it, he had stacks of money and so many hotels and his sister was crying when she owed him thousands after landing on one of his spaces. she ended up not forgiving him for weeks.
it was a not something he really waned to repeat with a complete stranger.

He’s the only one left who has yet to play a card, so he braces himself for the worst and lays a random card face down in the pile like the other cards. The cards get shuffled a bit and then read out. A few of them get chuckles and even laughs. His gets read out, and Haneul tries his best to keep his face impassive. It garners a few pity chuckles, and Haneul tries his best not to betray the fact that he was the one who’s randomly picking cards. The next black card is put out and he blinks at the words, resigning himself to his unfortunate fate.
while jaehyun understood this orientation week and he did know it was a good idea to get everyone else he was going to be stuck here with, he was not a big fan of these games. he had just never been a card game, or a board game, or any sort of game person simply because he now realized why he usually ended up winning them. and everyone usually ended up hating him because of it, calling him a cheat and refusing to play said game with him ever again. at least now he knew why he usually always ended up getting good luck, but that didn’t make it any better.
but this did leave him in a predicament and did want to make some friends at this new place, and he couldn’t really do that if he avoided interacting with people. which was somehow how he had gotten pulled into a game of cards against humanity. it was not a game he had actually ever played before, but of course he did know how to play it. though he never saw the interest in the crack insults and stupid cards.
at least this was a game where his luck couldn’t really come into play, people had different opinions on what was funny and what wasn’t. while he still thought he was getting the cards which sounded funniest to him, it was not the same for what everyone else thought about it. and that was fine with him, maybe no would accuse him to cheating or tell him to leave when he told them what his mutation was.
his attention was only half on the cards in front of him as someone new sat down next to him in the circle, another poor soul dragged into this game. jaehyun smiled politely at the guy, almost a sympathetic smile if he was being honest, as the game continued. but it soon became clear to jea that the newcomer next to him didn’t really seem to know what was he was doing. “you okay?” he whispered, not wanting to draw the attention to everyone else, “have you ever played this before?”
