He narrowed his eyes, trying to peer closer. ".....It's my tree! Yes, I finally found it! C'mon, c'mon!" Bratty broke out into a run, motioning excitedly for Pan to follow.
This is the place...
Bratty and Pan had been walking around, dodging zombies and hunting for trees. Bratty couldn’t help but think Pan seemed familiar somehow. Maybe Ari mentioned him once…oh well. At least now he wasn’t alone. Crisis averted! Maybe now he could find a tree before he got caught. They couldn’t be too far behind now…
Hey…
Hey, what was that?
“Hey, Pan. You see that glowing out there?” the little Once-ler pointed toward the distance.
———
“hm?” the former pancake man looked out in the direction Brat was pointing, then nodded. “yep! I see it~ so, what is it? Or, are we about to find out?”

So, I found this Pan guy. He seems familiar. I think Ari might've mentioned him a few times, but I can't remember.
Oh well. At least I got someone watchin' my back now. Mistake averted! Now back to the mission. Ari can't be too far behind me now...
Hey.
Hey, what's that?
..........
"Hey, Pan. You see that glowing out there?" I point toward the distance.

Brat pulls out his portable radio after a restless night’s sleep.
“Anybody out there? Other than nasty ass zombies?”
He did this every morning. Whether or not people answered was another story. But now that he was away from Ari and her emotionless mentality, he was gonna try to help as many people as he could.
Okay, so that was really gay. But the world wasn’t getting any better by standing around and saving themselves. Besides, babes would dig him even more if he helped save the world. They go even crazier over heroes than they do millionaires.
“Helloooo? Look alive, Sunshine! Anybody?”

Bratty had been walking all day, dodging zombies and trying to avoid as much trouble as possible. He’d never admit it out loud, but he really couldn’t handle a giant hoard of zombies himself. Dammit, he should’ve brought Sahara. Or at least Twice-ler. Going alone was even stupid in video games! What the hell was he thinking?
Oh well. No use cryin’ over it now. All he could do was hurry up and get the stupid truffula samples, then get his ass back to the mention.
Maybe he could find someone along the way and tag along with them…

Brat let out a big yawn as he finished extracting the acid of the batteries and boiling it. It suddenly dawned on him that he hadn’t left the basement all day. What time was it? And holy FRICK was he hungry! He took the lighter off the contraption he’d made and pocketed it, then covered the flask of battery acid and headed upstairs. Whoa, it was pitch dark out. He hated it when it was this dark, because everything was so red and green tinged it looked like anything could pop out at you in any moment. It was even worse without Sahara by his side…
He quickly ran up the stairs to his room. He’d just eat whatever candy he had left. It wasn’t worth going in the dark kitchen alone, or waking up Ari or Twice. He needed sleep more than food anyway…
He closed the door carefully, trying his best not to be loud, then leaned against it. He sighed. The pesticide he made was ready for testing. That meant tomorrow was gonna be a busy day. And a scary one…
He was gonna need some samples…

Brat-ler groaned in his bed, turning away from Sahara as she licked his face. She barked impatiently.
“Okay, okay. I’m up…” he mumbled. She watched him for a few more minutes before hopping off the bed and waiting by the door, barking again when he didn’t get up fast enough. He rolled out of bed and threw on some clothes, then strapped his shotgun back to his back and put his axes in the holster around his waist.
“Okay. Okay, let’s do this,” he shook his arms awake, taking a deep breath. Ugh, where the hell was Ari?
He followed Sahara back to the window, where he cocked his gun and took aim again.
Here’s hoping for another quiet day.

Brat was getting nervous.
Ari wasn’t back yet and she’d been gone awhile. He was starting to get nervous. He wasn’t good at killing things like she was. I mean, sure, she taught him how to throw knives before he got cursed, and shooting was just like in the video games, right? But what if he missed and the zombie got in and—
Sahara nudges his hand, whining softly to let him know she was still there. Oh yeah. Sahara would protect him. Ari trained her to be just as vicious as she was. She could bite that zombie’s head clean off! Yeah…
He pet the dog’s head for a minute, then returned to aiming his shotgun out the window, the same one Ari always kept watch at all day.
They would be fine…

He was still alive. For how long, she didn’t know, but for the moment, she still had the chance to save him. Sahara was barking more the closer they got, Brat’s screams getting louder and louder.
“ARRRRRIISSSSAAAAA!!!!!!” She couldn’t remember the last time Bratty called her by her first time....

What Pan said in his letter had really rattled her.
Even hours later, when she was at home in bed, with Sahara snuggled up next to her as always, already sleeping soundly, she still couldn’t shake his words. She was not an angel. People like her didn’t get to be called angels. Yes, she was...
