I see your suffering but at some point you have to come to terms with the fact that someone out there gets off at the concept of the grossest thing you can imagine. Living your life focusing on tearing those people down is not going to help you heal, nor is it going to help them. It is going to give you so much unnecessary grief and you have too many other places where your energy is needed.
The assessment that a given piece of media "romanticizes" "normalizes" etc. the concept of something is irrelevant. Everyone is going to have a different interpretation, and even if that IS their interpretation, it is still important to be able to freely talk about dark and yes, triggering things. Policing the way in which someone talks about an issue is censorship, and censorship is not good. (See the current IRL issues with the payment processors)
I guarantee you that there are numerous greater things that are creating a culture of (insert your passion issue here) than someone writing dark fanfiction. Our laws, societal expectations, traditions, and popular media, etc etc. ALSO have influence on the culture around (your passion issue) and your passion for said issue is not justification to censor artists talking about said issue Artists talking about said issue in a way you personally don't like or that doesn't resonate with you personally is not "ignoring" the culture surrounding said issue or even contributing to said issue. You cannot dismantle patriarchy by telling people to stop drawing sexy women (random example), and doing so will only play into a whole host of other IRL issues that will cause additional kinds of harm. How does someone treat *real people*? That will have more tangible impact on our culture than the art they make or enjoy.
Yes. I see your suffering. But that does not justify censorship. You will have to learn to ignore them just as you feel they are ignoring you.

Apparently there’s a “kids shouldn’t be allowed in grocery stores” thing being spread on TikTok because they might scream or run around and look yeah that’s annoying but at a certain point you’ve gotta just put up with kids being a little annoying in public. Sure the kid pouring milk in the isles is the fault of a shitty parent and should be asked to leave, but a single mom with an otherwise controlled by crying toddler isn’t doing anything wrong. I think you’ll live if someone’s two year old starts screaming in their arms in isle 3. It might be annoying but that mom is probably having a worse day than you

To a homophobe, even the most chaste kiss on the cheek between gay people is exactly as disgusting and degenerate as a hardcore BDSM orgy hosted in the town square, so you may as well ally with the BDSM orgy enthusiasts to throw bricks at the cops who are going to try and arrest all of you together anyway.

Endlessly diabolical how you can't say words like rape and suicide uncensored without either being criticised by idiots or punished by conglomerates.

this is advice I've given friends directly before and I've probably also posted it but I really like giving it so here it is potentially again: do not create something for an imaginary bad faith reader.
there will always be someone who finds fault in your work. there will be people who read the messages on it wrong. there will be people who will take every compelling aspect about your work off of it so they can put in their own.
you cannot make art for these people.
you will never write a story that is free from criticism. you will never draw a piece that everyone finds appealing. you will never compose a song that everyone enjoys hearing. you cannot, fundamentally, set out to create something and only think of how you can avoid someone not liking it.
because, and this is key, there will be someone who sees every angle of your story and feels its intent in their heart and gushes to their friends about it. you will draw someone's favorite art and they will make it their phone wallpaper because they want to see it every day. someone will fall in love with your song and loop it on their way to work because it gets them through the day. and THOSE are the people your work is for. THOSE are the people you have to care about, because they love what you make for what it is - because it's itself.
if you set out to create something and file off every sharp edge, prune every thorn, you will be left with something fragile and weak, and it will be fragile and weak for the sake of someone who does not exist but that you were scared of anyway.
sharing art is complex and tangled and powerful, and anything you care enough to create deserves to flourish as itself. get sillay.

the only reliable, effective way of "protecting children" is education. but people don't want to hear that because they don't actually care about protecting children, they care about protecting a mythologised ideal of innocence

I swear, if anyone EVER tries to minimize the abuse I've experienced by pulling something like "you OBVIOUSLY haven't been abused, because if you did you would agree that writing about xyz isn't okay--"
Oh wait, that's already happened. 🙄
The feelings yakuza claim to care about abuse victims, but refuse to look at the impacts that their actions actually have on those very people they claim to care about...
#clutches my lily fic like the guy in the nekozamurai meme#that fic could now be considered disallowed on many websites#yay for ao3#sorentxt#like guys I don't think I should have to talk about my experience with [redacted]#to argue with some rando on the internet that censorship is in fact bad
