What if all Investigation Team's shadows had a different Arcana?

llusions of the night, fear of no sight, and truths we deny— All these traits are described by the Arcana that stands for both the subconscious mind and literal darkness: The Moon.
Teddie's unwillingness to admit the ugly truth and his self-cast memory loss are perfectly captured by the essence of The Moon card— which is also his shadow-ish alter-ego's.
This contrasts with his to-go lightheartedness and his adaptability better suited for The Star, his persona's card.
But what if this was true all party members in Persona 4? Here's a list of which cards I would assign to other characters' shadows according to the cards' symbolism and with how their pre-boss-battle dialogue went down.
♧Yosuke: The Tower

"I'll crush everything that bores me."
Yosuke's persona, The Magician, is a light Arcana that stands for one who bears all the elements required to create their masterful design. Resourceful, communicative, and clever, the Arcana carries the traits usually associated with many witty and creative professions, including merchants/salespeople— Fitting for the outgoing attedant of Junes.
His shadow, however, speaks of intense and sudden ruin. The predictable but unseen fall of which structures were weak or/and unsustainable. In a positive light, this destruction opens space to new structures to be built (aka, its successor Arcana, The Star), however— in a negative light, it brings us closer to meaningless ruin and chaos, to selfsabotage for the sake of feeling something, and the vicious, sadistic pleasure in ruin.
Yosuke's repressed hatred for the calmness of a small town led him to be excited about Inaba's murder cases. He'd rather see the town go down than spend more time in his boring and underwhelming reality. Such traits are better described by none other than the Tower Arcana.
♡Chie: The Empress

" But Yukiko... She depends on me. "
Brave, fast, strong. These are the light attributes commonly associated with the Chariot Arcana. The archetype also stands for those who are proactive and in charge of their fate's direction. They define both Chie's willingness to take action— feel more, think less— and her desire to protect those less strong than her. In her shadow's case, Yukiko.
But Chie's love and protection came with a price: underlying her fierce gut to defend her friend, Chie's ego enjoyed the knowledge Yukiko needed her, as it gave her a sense of superiority, power and control.
The Empress is no tyrant, her subjects follow and admire her because they want to. She rules by the heart. When in a positive light, the Empress expresses basically all that has to do with femininity: fertility, motherhood, charm. Characters associated with this card can be caring and nurturing, a supportive figure to others' growth. However, such desire for being loved and admired can lead to jealousy and manipulation. Instead of favoring one's brightness, she smothers it, outshines it. After all, only she can be queen. Traits that fit shadow Chie's inferiority complex just right.
◇Yukiko: The Hanged Man

"Everything's decided for me. From how I live, to where I die."
Intuitive, reserved and wise. That's how one could shortly describe The High Priestess archetype. One who sits and listens to her own inner voice— A character focused on self-knowledge and contemplation.
As the card that describe one's inner voice, the High Priestess is not portraited as a moving figure: She meditates through her hopes and fears to get where she needs to. In a way, so does Yukiko. She often thinks, but doesn't do what she's contemplating to do. Almost as if she was tied down to the ground she stands on, but such stallment is not unbreakable; Yukiko simply fears leaving it by her own.
As the heir to Inaba's most famous inn, the second-year student places on herself the role of managing it— but it doesn't necessarily need to be that way. Yukiko secretly prefers to keep the expectations that were placed upon her because this way she wouldn't have to move and take accountability of her own fate, as if it's easier to be a victim of your circustances than to actually challenge them, even when freedom is within reach. These traits of comfortable victimhood can be accuratedly described by the one who hangs themself by their own free will: the Hanged Man archetype.
♤Kanji: Temperance

"Will anyone accept me for who I am?"
Imponent, protective, authoritarian. The Emperor card brings traits commonly associated with leadership and masculinity. A father figure who watches over the area so the kids can play safely. This is a figure who feels confident in a fight, as he holds the strategy and strength he needs.
Kanji has a hard time managing some expectations society has placed on him. Despite having a few traits that do match the known expectations of masculinity, Kanji Tatsumi is much more than that. He's a creative boy with a soft spot for cuteness and a sensitive heart underneath. Deep down, Kanji does not play the tough guy because he wants to be a menacing person, but rather— because he wants to be left alone, in peace. He stands tall as the Emperor because this way, no one will mess around with him, even if it means his head will be shaken by one extreme or two.
Speaking of it, despite being a rather sensitive fellow, Kanji is also known to be a bit impulsive and overreactive, which can lead him into trouble and give him a reputation quite far away from his truest self. He'd rather be seen as the opposite of a coward man than else— This lack of balance in his own self-perception and fears are traits easily suited for the darker aspects of the Temperance Arcana.
Part 1 | Part 2 coming soon.

I love fanfic, fanart and fandom in general because it really just feels like we’re all playing with toys.
Like the piece of media is just a bin of action figures and play sets that were all screwing around with in some kind of cosmic recess

In another universe
Maybe things could have been different
With you by my side 💕
High school Adachi and my newest OC Aki 💕
Ive decided to make a new OC x Canon pair. I’ve had hardcore P4 brainrot since finishing the game over the holidays. My brain decided to latch onto the adachers and he has firmly set up camp lol 🏕️ I have many little AUs swirling around my brain. But this is my fix-it universe - what if he had made and valued even one social link early on during a primitive time in his life?Maybe things could have worked out differently for him 🙏
Thank you so much @vampmoby for bringing them to life for me! 🫶💖

p4 novel chapter where adachi messes around the dojima house
to recap: "your affection" is an officially licensed p4 novel from 2009. idk if it's canon or not. each chapter is a side story about the characters besides the protagonist, each from a different month in game. adachi appears in the october chapter. this is a summary of the events of the chapter, which i totally read at 5am when i couldn't sleep.
tl;dr = adachi can't fold laundry
nanako returns home from school one day and suspiciously finds her dad's shoes lopsided in the entryway, the laundry has been taken down from the backyard and sloppily thrown onto the couch, a letter in the mailbox with no sender (the 1st threat letter), etc. she knows that its not the protag who did this because he would've properly folded the laundry and whatnot, and she wasn't expecting him home afterschool cause he had to go to a club that day. nanako thinks someone might have broken into the house OR MAYBE IT'S A GHOST???, so she goes back outside.
naoto is roaming around and ends up near the dojima residence, seemingly driven by a desire to see the cats that hang around outside the house lol, and she comes across nanako outside. nanako explains, and naoto takes her back inside to investigate. as they go found the house, they find more oddities: nanako sees the newspaper rolled up and assumes her dad hasn't come home yet (as he would've unfolded/read it), the bread she was going to use as toast for breakfast is gone, the mokoi doll in the protagonist's room was knocked off the shelf, there's a futon laying around...
eventually, dojima comes home, and he's like "?" because naoto is there. naoto explains nanako's concerns, and dojima realizes what happened but doesn't explain to either of them. he serves naoto coffee, which she finds really bitter so nanako brings her some cream and sugar. dojima mentions the protag sometimes takes his with cream and sugar too. they start talking about protag, and dojima asks some prying questions, like, "what do you talk to my nephew about huh". naoto knows she cant say "uhh we talk about murders", so she says like, "well i tell him about my childhood and he tells me about you and nanako!" dojima replies about how naoto should live a normal school life and not get involved in anything weird, and naoto thinks that he's kinda like kanji.
suddenly, the doorbell rings, and nanako gets the door. adachi is there. he dropped by to find dojima as he wasn't at the station. it turns out that they got some kind of forensics report back about a theft at a hardware store. dojima yells at adachi b/c he could've just called. he knows it's more like... adachi came over to the house to tell dojima in person because he wanted to waste time / slack off lol. naoto hears the word "theft", and is reminded of the curious case earlier, which dojima knew the truth about but didn't share. so naoto asks, "wait, who did it?" and dojima goes, "this guy", referring to adachi.
what really happened was adachi asked dojima if he wanted to go drinking after they got off duty. dojima got absolutely shit faced drunk. after nanako and protag had left for school, adachi brought dojima back to the house and dumped him on a futon. adachi himself was hung over, so he napped on the couch. adachi woke up after noon and had some time to spare before he had to go back on the clock, so he went back to his place.
before he left, though, he noticed it was windy, so he very shittily folded the laundry and threw it on the couch. something from the laundry blew away to the 2nd floor of the house, and adachi wound up in the protag's room to get it back, and he knocked over the mokoi doll in the process. he also got thirsty so helped himself to a drink except he also broke/dropped the glass. and he ate nanako's bread at some point. he claims that he asked dojima for permission to eat it and dojima said okay, but like, dojima was also hung over, so uh... adachi... lol...
btw, while he narrates the part about his Very Shittily Folded laundry, he's like, "wow nanako is such a hard worker who is always doing all of the household chores! i wanted to help her out! nanako, you should be really thankful to me!" and nanako is, in response to this, described as "having an odd look to her face" lmao.
naoto then scolds both dojima and adachi since dojima made nanako worry (dojima never read the newspaper that day, but nanako thought it being folded meant he never came home and someone broke in) and adachi was doing whatever the fuck adachi does. dojima gets a call about another case, and him and adachi have to take off. dojima asks naoto to stay with nanako for a bit, and the chapter ends with naoto taking nanako grocery shopping.
pretty cute overall.
adachi inviting dojima out drinking, knowing he'd have to take dojima back to the house, thus giving him an excuse to be there and leave the threat letter in the mailbox, almost sounds too smart for adachi haha. also, thank you to this author for the mental image of adachi folding the protag's pants (very shittily) and rummaging thru his room. (❁´◡`❁)
#this is amazing#thank you op#I’m imagining adachi shittily folding laundry now while hungover#I just *know* he lives out of his fucking laundry hamper or a lump of clothes on a chair LOL#also how thoughtful of him to bring it in anyways 😆#maybe less thoughtful that he ate nanakos bread but he thought he did his due diligence 😂#also he’s so clumsy I bet he accidently knocks over and spills shit all the time lmao#persona 4#persona 4 golden#tohru adachi

bonus adachi scene in the bd/dvd version of the golden anime
in the tv broadcast (and also the version from crunchyroll), it goes from yu looking at his window tv to the cake. on the bd/dvd version of ep 12, there's an added scene in-between where nanako gives yu the letter, adachi is in gay baby jail, and you hear him voicing the letter from rank 10 of his social link.
there's ~6mins overall of new stuff added to episode 12. ~30 sec is the adachi rank 10 part, ~2.5min is the ending that shows everyone + marie hanging out in inaba. idk what the other 3 minutes are lol.
edit: oh, wait, i found the other new scenes:
izanami explaining how she was split into two
namatame campaigning in inaba
yu walking around the central shopping district before going to junes
yu lamenting that marie isn't around anymore before they turn on the weather report
yosuke then explains that marie came back pretttttttty quickly and said something about being able to live as a human
rise complaining about marie and her stage name

it's so wild to me that you absolutely cannot force a hyperfixation to happen. like you'll watch the most perfectly tailor-made-for-you content that everyone says you'll love and feel absolutely nothing, and then the thing you watch on a whim to fill time will reach through the screen and put its damn fingers in your brain and start rearranging the neurons right in front of you and every single time you're like THIS??? THIS??????? and this happens like every 6-12 months forever
#this is what happened to me with adachi and p4#it hit me like a bus#you can’t plan it it just happens and chooses you and takes you on a ride lol#hyperfixation
