last year i played around with different zine formats/ways to get creative with page layout. this design resulted in two distinct halves around a center spine, so i thought it'd be fun to add in a 90º rotation as well.

when I was younger, I thought having too many bumper stickers on your car was tacky, and I still kinda think that, but now I recognize that the single most important factor is the ability to recognize your car in a parking lot amongst hundreds of nearly identical cars when you are very tired and stupid

Healthcare inequity is the one issue that pisses me off every day of my life. I simply cannot understand why universal access to safe, fluoridated drinking water and adequate childhood nutrition and pre-natal vitamins and contraceptives and essential vaccinations and insulin and antiretrovirals for HIV and effective antibiotic therapy for TB etc. isn’t the single most urgent priority for the entire world.

I recently figured out that there’s an outdoor pool right by my house, and it’s only $6 to go swimming or you can buy passes, and they have one of those current channels you can walk in that goes in a big spiral with a whirlpool in the middle, and lap swimming, and a water slide, and plenty of life guards, and there are sooo many little baby swim classes happening every day where the little babies wear little baby sunhats and try to pat the water with their little baby hands…it is the single most wholesome place on earth and now I resent every single day of the summer when I can’t go swimming!!!

Puberty is an especially ripe time for the beginning of a disrupted relationship with food and the body (if people are lucky enough to make it that far!). The natural weight gain at the onset of puberty is when many people and/or their parents get concerned. We are not taught to trust our body, that this weight gain is actually necessary for the hormonal changes our bodies are going through. We are not told to stay calm and let the body do what it needs to do, that we can trust the body to sort it all out. (This is also true for the natural weight gain that occurs later in life as we move toward our senior years and need weight to protect our bones and give our body the reserves needed if/when we get sick.) Research has shown that for people who menstruate, the entry into and exit from reproductive life are the highest risk times for the development of an eating disorder. For transgender folks, the body changes that come with the hormonal shifts of puberty may kick off or amplify the experience of gender dysphoria and restrictive food and/or compulsive exercise patterns emerge to attempt to control and shape the body and attain oppressive gender norms. Longtime activist Suzanne Pharr writes: “It is at puberty that the full force of society’s pressure to conform is brought to bear."
