What’s the point when I know you’re not going to talk about it? I’m just…here.

Why? I didn’t ask you to be here.

By the Sea | Self Paragraph
And it's breaking over me
A thousand miles down to the sea bed
Found the place to rest my head
The last place Rory thought she would end up after the party was the docks, nestled inside one of Dean’s tin fishing boats, drinking from a bottle of bourbon she’d stolen from Aria – yet there she was. There weren’t many places in the town that she could get away and be alone, especially when a lot of her hiding spots Ezra knew too. However, this spot wasn’t one of theirs, it was Rory’s – ever since Dean helped with her prank on Gabriel. The fishing boat had been her escape since Robin, the place she went to hide. And tonight... tonight she just didn’t want to be in anyone’s company; Rory didn’t even want to be in her own company.
The alcohol burned her throat and try as she might, she couldn’t distract or numb herself from everything that Nathan had said. His words weren’t new to her, just a reiteration of the things she thought about herself. A burden... unworthy... a thing that destroyed everything good around it. Nathan had cut into wounds that were fresh from her own cutting. The malice and enjoyment in his tone reminded her of Brody and all the times Rory had being hopeless and vulnerable. Before Brody went to jail, all Rory wanted was to disappear from the world. She imagined stepping through a door and it locking behind her, existing in a world of nothing where no one could touch her.
Her tin fishing boat was a poor excuse for that nothingness.
“Hey, kiddo.”
Rory hadn’t realised her eyes had closed, but she opened them to see Dean standing over her with his arms crossed. The alcohol made him foggy, but Rory would never let him or anyone know when she felt out of sorts.
Her lips curled into a small smirk, “Hey Dean.”
“You’re in my boat,” he stated dryly before his eyes moved without amusement to the bottle cradled to her chest. “And you’re drinking.”
Rory rolled her eyes and shrugged, “Is that illegal?”
“Yes.”
“Oh fuck off,” she groaned and curled further into the boat, turning her face away from him.
Dean sighed and didn’t say anything, for a moment she thought he might have left, but Rory had an excellent instinct for knowing when someone was near her – she had Brody to thank for that.
“Want me to call your brother?”
For a moment, she felt like retorting that if she wanted to speak to her brother she could call him herself, instead Rory just muttered: “No.”
Rory waited for Dean to decide what he should do with her, not many people knew how to handle a Fabray. Her and her brother were notorious  for being combative and compulsive, quick to anger and react. But where her brother had found a kind-of purpose, with Elliot Rowell taking him under her wing, Rory had nothing. She didn’t have a place in this town besides being a novelty, something to comment on or ignore like a piece of infrastructure of the town. Dean and the rest don’t know how to handle her because she doesn’t know how to, and for so long she’s moved around aimless.
“Just...” Dean blew air between his lips, the sound of his hand running over his face reaching her ears. “Just don’t stay out here all night. Don’t go near the dock. And if you have a problem, knock on my door. Okay?”
“I’m not a baby,” she looked up at him with a scowl that Dean returned.
“Rory.”
“Okay,” she agreed, the word rolling with distaste.
Dean rolled his eyes back at her and turned away, calling over his shoulder, “Night kiddo.”
Rory just raised her bottle in the air and took a massive swig, draining the last few mouth fulls until the thing was empty.
What Dean didn’t realise was that Rory Fabray was now a liar.
Robin took the last of her integrity.
So when his front door closed, Rory pulled herself from the boat and walked down the pier to the dock. She stood at the edge of the dock and watched the waves rush against the wooden slates, the black water twisting and thrashing angrily. The bourbon was making her sway and with the addition of the waves, Rory felt dizzy. She wished the dizziness made the tiredness go away, but the weariness had reached its limit; Rory had reached her limit. For a long time she’s been angry at the world, but Robin has just shown her that maybe she’s been the problem all along. If she wasn’t such a coward, if she was stronger than maybe she wouldn’t suffer so much, maybe Ezra wouldn’t have to suffer so much. Lady wouldn’t have had to nearly die for Rory to escape her abuser too.
There was one thing Rory was sure about, and it was that a lot of people’s lives would be easier if she wasn’t around.
Rory lifted one of her legs over the edge of the dock and balanced on the other. It would be easy, all she had to do was walk into the water and she’d find the nothingness. No one would be able to touch her there. In the darkness, Rory wouldn’t be able to hurt anyone else. The town would be safe from her and... that was the right thing to do. Right? The only thing stopping her was her brother, she knew being gone would hurt him. Nor did it didn’t resolve the issue of Robin. But before she could decide if she wanted to or not, a particular hard wave crashed against the dock and Rory lost her balance.
The water was bitter cold when she hit it, the impact painfully reverberating through her whole body. She gasped from the pain and swallowed water, choking on it because suddenly it was everywhere all at once. Rory kept sinking, the water deeper than she expected and the weight of her clothes dragging her quicker. Her limbs were frozen from the cold and lazy from the alcohol, but her mind was suddenly active. Her impulse thinking was to swim, to get back to the dock and call out to Dean. But that impulse was quickly smothered by the weight of everything she’d been thinking and feeling before.
What was the point?
Rory wasn’t sure she had one anymore.
She ignored the burning in her lungs and the jerking of her muscles as they tried to make her body move. She opened her mouth and sputtered each time she swallowed water when she tried to breathe. Her body was burning, but the suffering felt deserved. All the secrets she had to tell, all the lives Robin could ruin or make difficult from knowing them – Rory deserved to suffer more than she was.
Staying true to form, Audrey, breaking everything you touch.
Only this time, she was destroying herself instead of someone else.
Rory tried to smile as her eyes closed.
She fell into the darkness as arms pulled her body back into the light.

Nice to meet you, Rory– oh. Oh– that’s why you think Link is boring, you’re the Fabray that’s under age. Oh jeez.
Tumblr media
Just make sure I’m too drunk to remember that you’re underage, I can almost imagine Link screaming right about now.
Awh. Does Link talk about me?
Tumblr media
I can definitely make sure that happens. Let’s get you fucked up – plus it will be exciting to disobey your boyfriend Link, he’ll spank you or something for being naughty.

I’m never winning with you and your brother, so, you know know? If starting a gang and getting tattoos with you makes you happy, sure.
Tumblr media
Don’t make me give out an order, Rory.
Do you have a pen? I’ve actually been working on a pretty cool design. I’ll draw it on a napkin for you.
Tumblr media
You’re not my commander. You have no authority to be giving me ‘orders’.

I don’t think the owner of the drapes would agree with you, Ror. What would you suggest I do for fun, then, that doesn’t involve me ridiculing myself?

We could steal a few bottles, find an empty room in this place and get drunk out of our minds.

Hot damn. I better shut up before I somehow get you to change your mind and make you torch my gravestone instead.
Well me torching your gravestone is a compliment too. Means I cared enough to get revenge even after your death.

“No, our situations aren’t the same. You’re the one treading dangerous water.”
Tumblr media
For a moment, they simply stared at one another, testing to see who would make the first move. Nathan wanted subconsciously to clear up the misunderstanding and apologize for his harsh words, or offer an excuse for the behavior, but just as with Peyton, playing the role this town depended on him to partake would fail if he did not step into Robin’s shoes. Not enough to fall completely overboard, but the right amount for believability. Nate’s gaze followed her hand, feeling as if he were watching in slow motion, as Rory removed a champagne flute from the tower’s lower section and caused the destruction of an otherwise beautiful exihibit. Glass shattered, the liquid spilled, and still the man remained at his spot with the same surprisingly unflinching reaction Audrey conveyed. Glancing between the glass and the girl with a pause, an unidentifiable emotion shone behind his eyes. One he didn’t think himself capable no matter how fake it was. “Staying true to form, Audrey, breaking everything you touch.” He reached over and plucked the glass from her hands casually, “Better clean up this mess before Aria catches wind. I’d hate to be on her bad side once she sees you destroyed a rather expensive display, then again, you wouldn’t know.” Nate lifted his drink, toasting her, “Thanks for the drink.”
“I’m used to it,” Rory hissed with a sneer. They stood there, watching each other and waiting for Nathan to decide his move. Growing up in a foster home, with foster parents who didn’t care for her and her brother, a foster brother who tortured and traumatised them with his abusive nature, Rory learned to stand her ground – it didn’t matter how scared she was or how angry and unsure, Rory would always stand in defiance. So when Nate’s words hit her – Staying true to form, Audrey, breaking everything you touch – Rory stood still and took the words. They were like knife to her heart, a reminder why she would never be more than what she was, something broken and not worthwhile. It wasn’t a complete surprise to hear the words, but in culmination of everything that was happening, Rory was stubbornly trying to fight the tears in her eyes. The poor, destructive girl who has only ever been loved by one person; she was pathetic in Nathan Finley’s eyes. “I wouldn’t know,” Rory agreed as one tear escaped her eyes, rolling down her cheek slowly for them both to notice. “I’m poor, orphaned, and have no prospects in life besides being a burden to my brother and everyone else. The tiny semblance of a life I have, your mother is ruining—” There was a lot more she could say, but Rory cut herself off when she felt herself teetering on the edge of a panic attack. She was twenty years old and being forced to exploit the secrets of the people around her – she was being isolated even more in a community that she felt apart from. She chewed on lip and looked away from Nathan as she searched for an exit, when she found it she murmured one last statement, “Just tell my brother I don’t want a funeral.” Rory was storming away from Nathan and the room before she could hear anything else. There was definitely glass in her feet, she could feel the shards moving as she walked and yet she didn’t stop. She had to get away, she couldn’t bee there anymore with any of them.

Both of us having someone we care about held over our heads? Yeah, totally different.
Tumblr media
I know Fabrays are ticking time bombs, Rory, I’m only insuring it’s better for everyone you don’t test her patience. Probably won’t enjoy what happens if you did.
“One of us is her son. Our situations are nothing alike, so don’t fucking act like they are.”
Tumblr media
Rory didn’t react, but inside she was simmering. It was one thing to be blackmailed by the mayor, it was another to have her spawn come up to her and shove it in her face. She had no problem with Nathan, but she was starting to now. It was funny to her that he assumed to know her so well, and yet he was pressing her for a reaction. She gave him a fake smile and nodded. “Of course.” Stopping a bomb meant careful dissection, and Nathan had just gone in and cut all of Rory’s wires. Standing at the drinks table, Rory reached over and plucked one of the bottom glasses from the champagne towers. In a cascade of glass and champagne, the tower collapsed beside them to the floor. She didn’t flinch, not even when she felt glass cut her feet, Rory kept grinning at Nathan. “Here’s your drink, Mr Finley.”

Then if you don’t want to be responsible for turning me to a life of crime and becoming the fucking asshole, you keep that camera in your bag where it belongs.

I don’t know... that kind of sounds interesting now. We could get matching delinquent tattoos, start a gang.

Sorry, Harvey. No can do.

Oh, I suppose. Are you…looking at how hot I am, Rory? Not that it matters, not that it’s bothersome to me. But are you?
I think I may have been born with it, but stick around and you might pick up a thing or two.

Preferable if I didn’t fit in or else I’ll have to talk to someone and then they’ll judge me for looking uncomfortable.
Tumblr media
People are going to judge you either way, I just say fuck it. You might as well be too drunk to care about the consequences.
Tumblr media
Plus, they’re more likely to be looking at how hot you are.
