Remembering Radiance

A moment that Augustus had been working a long time had was finally coming to fruition. Since the ending of 113 He, and Mrs. Radiance had been working hand in hand to accomplish all of this, and now here they were, standing at the ribbon cutting of the Lance Radiance Animal Hospital, in one of the prime spots of the Capitol. 

Augustus was appreciative of everyone who showed up, Octavian was there with him, and Lance’s whole family had been able to get permission to be there. A considerable crowd had gathered for the event, mostly because it was a memorial to a tribute, and a Mentor and a Tribute’s family was going to be there. Augustus let his eyes fall on the building, finally there it was finished everything, literally everything that was standing before him came from Lance, and his dreams. Well Augustus and Mrs. Radiance made two alterations, they added a small section that featured as a better tribute to Lance, with photos of him throughout his life, and explaining his love for animals, and how that’s what drove him to get through the games, and then a bronze station of him that greeted you in the main entrance of the grand building. 

When the reporters had gotten their fill of photos, and everyone was settled, The itinerary was that Augustus would be the first speaker, and then introduce Mrs. Radiance, who would speak and then together they’d cut the ribbon. Making his way up to the microphone, he smiled and gave a small wave. 

“Hello, and thank you everyone for coming. As you all know, we’re here today to cut the ribbon on a project me, and Mrs. Lucindia Radiance have been working on for along time. That project? The Lance Radiance Animal Hospital.” Giving a short pause. “This entire project was actually thought up by Lance Radiance, I remember I went to visit with his family after bringing his body back, and Mrs. Radiance was kind enough to share this with me, and together we decided to make this a reality. To make his dream a reality. I’m proud to have gotten to know him, and work with him, and I feel guilty every day that I wasn’t able to bring him home. I’m glad I could do this for him though, and I hope he’s looking down at all of this, and smiling that his dream is coming true.” Wiping away a tear that had formed in his eye. “And now without further adieu, I present Lucindia Radiance.” 

Clapping followed, when he approached, her and Augustus hugged, and she held his hand as she made her way to the microphone. She wasn’t smiling though, she was almost frowning. 

“Thank you all for coming, I know Lance would appreciate it, I know he’d be very thankful for all of you being here. He’s not here though. And that is my fault. Mine, and my husband’s fault. We were given four beautiful sons, and selfishly me and my husband wanted one of them to be a Victor. My three older boys were passed by the academy and when they said Lance was to be One’s Tribute when he was eighteen we were ecstatic. We thought this was it, this was when we got our victor. Instead we watched our beautiful boy drag a knife across his throat and kill himself in order to avoid being drowned by monsters.” Wiping away a few tears from her face, before she smiled finally. “Although that’s not all I saw in that arena. I saw the baby boy I knew and loved. I saw him develop a friendship with a boy from Eight named Gwydion Spindle, I’ll be forever grateful that in that awful, awful arena he had a friend, and I know the two of them are somewhere together, happy again.” 

Taking a pause again, she smiled a little more. “Lance didn’t have many friends, he was weird, I won’t lie he was was. He liked boys and girls, he didn’t believe in just being in a relationship with one person. He had a lot of love to give to people. He loved everyone he met. Yet, in One they didn’t love him for his love, or kindness, or large, giving heart. No they loved him because he was amazing at throwing knives at things. Which looking back was a shame, because he had so much more to give them. As I said he didn’t have a lot of friends, but he had a precious few, Greg, Maple, Cheryl, Peridot, Fluffers, and Eloise. None of them were humans, no.” Shaking her head she let out a laugh. “They were a a deer, two birds, and three rabbits. He was able to make friends with animals, and they trusted him. He’d often sneak off to feed them, he talk to them, they’d let him pet him, these wild animals, let my son feed and pet them. That’s the kind of person he was, he was so sweet animals befriended him. And that’s why he wanted this, so that all animals would be able to be his friend. He wanted to save them and now he can. Thank you.” 

Together Augustus and Mrs. Radiance picked up the oversized scissors, and cut the ribbon in front of the doors. Smiling, she nodded to Aug to say it. 

“The Lance Radiance Animal Hospital is now open.”

“I wish it was forty years off,” Glitter laughed.

“Well even so, I bet you’ll be the best looking seventy year old, around. I’ll probably look awful when I get that old.”

“Maybe.  We’ve got plenty of time to figure it out.”

“No by the time that happens you’ll probably be in your seventies, which is what forty years off?” Grinning a little, he chuckled.

“I could maybe do a bird,” she admitted.  “But not for awhile.  I’ve got enough on my plate with the kids.”

“Of course, once all the chicks have left the nest, that’s when you and River can retire to a safe with a few song birds.”

daisytyr:

Daisy looked down at the cloth that was now around her thigh. “I dont know why he did it. I was sitting with him watching the games and he got really upset when Stella died. He started punching and kicking and I tried to make him feel better, I really did. But he was so upset and he just tackled me and began attacking me. I’m telling you, it wasnt really him.” She placed a hand on her sore stomach from the impact.

“Don’t worry, I believe you that it wasn’t him.” He put a hand on her shoulder to try and support her. “Help will hopefully be here soon, and they can treat you. Just tell me what else hurts? Where exactly so I can help tell the nurse or whoever gets here.”

daisytyr:

“I-I dont know..” She pushed her brunette locks out of her face. “Cruz attacked m-me. But it didnt seem normal, it didnt seem like Cruz! He clawed me and bite me, and even headbutted me.” The girl was crying uncontrolably. Not only hurting from the pain but from the confusion of what really happened. She leaned against the wall and closed her eyes, trying to stay calm. “I-I dont want him to get introuble, Augustus.”

When he finally got the Tower infirmary he told them how someone was hurt and needed help right away. Giving them the location of where Daisy and he were at he told them to hurry. “I know Daisy, but you still need help.” Making sure the knot was tied around her leg properly. “Do you know why he did this? Even if he wasn’t like his usual self?”

“Yeah, that would definitely not be something I’d want my kids worrying about.”

“Can’t blame you, Glitter, I wouldn’t want to have to explain either to a bunch of kids.” Chuckling. “How about a bird? Or are they off the table too?”

“I know,” she chuckled.  “But try explaining the difference to a four year old.”

Laughing. “Very good point, I think in their head all fish are the same. And you wouldn’t want to think you’re eating your guppy.”

“But considering the amount of fish we eat in Four it might be a problem for the kids.  They’d start seeing fish as pets and not dinner.”

“Yeah good point. Wait until they’re older and then get the fish, they’ll hopefully know the difference by then. Although there is a difference between a goldfish and a tuna.”

daisytyr:

Daisy walked into the hallway with a limp. She was trying to figure out what happened, why she was attack, and if Cruz was okay. What would happen to him? Tears running down her cheeks, Daisy rested against the wall. Blood dripping from her left thigh and her hand and sweat gathered on her forehead causing her hair to stick to it. “I-I cant breathe.” Daisy stuttered out, hoping the person standing by her would help her, even though she knew she was a scary sight at the moment.

“Oh my god, Daisy, are you ok? What the hell happened?” Pulling off his shirt, he wrapped it around her thigh, tying it tight around to try and stop the blood flow. “I am going to call for help, don’t worry, just stay calm.” Pulling his phone out of his pocket he dialed the number for the tower nurse. Waiting for an answer, “Come on pick up, pick up.”

She shook her head.  “Gamemaker monster or not I’m not having cats in my life.”

“Hey, you never responded to the fish, what about like a goldfish. All you have to do is feed it once a day and sometimes change it’s water. Pretty easy.”

“Augustus, I think you’re forgetting I got mauled by a very big cat in the arena.  Once the kids move out I’ll probably have”

“Hey don’t blame small  kitties for the monsters the Gamemakers created in a lab. I mean I prefer dogs, but I like cats too, they have a quirk to them, don’t know what to call it though.”

“There’s no way I’m ever getting cats,” she told him.  “I’ve got kids.  That’s enough.”

“Hey, kids grow up and move out and then it’ll just be you and River and then you’ll probably get a cat or something. Maybe a fish since you live by so much water.”

“Most of it,” she laughed.  “It’s been a long time since I won and I have never took a year off.”

“You’re basically Agatha. How long until you start drinking and the Gazette is talking about your cats?”

She laughed.  “Well I’m glad you’re getting  a break.  I’ll get my own break someday.  I’ve never been one for slowing down.”

“Someday, should be today, you’ve given them how many years of your life? All of them? You need a serious hardcore break, Glitter. Regardless if you slow down or not.”

“Oh that’s wonderful,” she told him.  “Congrats.  You deserve a break.”

Chuckling. “I mean yeah, thanks. We’ve only been dating for like six or seven years. Longer then some people’s marriages.” Sighing. “I just feel bad leaving you for a year by yourself. And if anyone deserves a break it’s you, Glitter.”

She shrugged.  “I wouldn’t leave them all in Four.  I’d probably bring Neptune at least here with me.  River isn’t doing great, but I’ll see how he’s doing closer to the next games before I decide.”

Nodding his head. “I know you’ll do what’s best for everyone, Glitter.” Sighing a little. “I do have some bad news for you though, and I feel bad doing it to you, but me and Octavian both thing it’s important. I’m uhh taking a break from Mentoring next games, and me and Octavian are just going to spend some quality time together, since we’ve gotten engaged.”
