I think because natural selection dictates that even if there are more peaceful aliens than colonial ones. We're more likely to find the colonial ones because colonialism gives your civilization a larger interstellar footprint.

I think that when talking about the Fermi paradox, too many people assume that intelligent life is inherently colonial.

Like, on Earth, for every hyper-imperialistic culture, there are 200 that just… aren’t.

What if they value other things? What if they see no reason to go probing and conquering?

We can assume that space aliens are “like us” without assuming that they’re like white British people specifically, can’t we?

And why assume that humans of the far future will be like humans of today? Why assume that we will become a space-faring colonial force, eager to leave our home and manifest-destiny our way across the Milky Way?

I don’t think we’ll ever lose our curiosity, and I don’t think we’ll ever stop trying to learn about distant stars, but will we feel the need to live on them?

I am a firm believer that jealousy is not a thing to be risen above or overcome. Listen to that shit. You WANT something. You feel UPSET about something. You want to advocate for yourself over others. you don't have to get over that. let it tell you what you are not getting enough of and ask for that shit and if you're still not getting it after doing so, you can put your foot down! You can have a fit, say that things aren't working, be an emotional wreck, beg for lots of reassurance, demand quality time, walk away from the relationship. You can be a jealous person!! It's literally okay! Own that shit. Some partners even find possessiveness or jealousy in a partner to be very endearing or attractive and it makes them feel wanted. It's okay to want shit. It's okay to need to be special. You are!!!
