Three asphalt roads lead up the wooded flanks of Mount Taranaki to the North Egmont, East Egmont and Dawson Falls. The tour really took it all out of me! In between I really thought about quitting the tour and asking for an oxygen tent! But since giving up is not an option 🤨, I put one foot in front of the other until after 3 hours I finally reached the summit and the Syme Hut 🏠.

The rescue service of the national park is especially busy on long weekends. Careless hikers underestimate the mountain and the changing weather, do not expect the sometimes strongly fluctuating temperatures on Mount Taranaki. Again and again some have to be rescued by helicopters.
