Writing as Public Power
Overall the piece was a good explanation why writing is important even outside of the university setting and how writing not only develops the community around you but political agendas as well as leadership roles in politics. I found it interest how Gabor tied all of his thoughts and view points together in this piece, it was well constructed and clear to get the message across. I especially found his section of “Community Based Research” particularly interesting because it showed how the specific reading role that he was trying to discuss is shown throughout the community.

I have never really thought of the things that I do on a weekly basis, as discourse communities. To me, when I first heard that saying, it seemed negative. After reading Swales’ readings that we are assigned, I understood what discourse communities really were. The main discourse community that I...

Discourse Communities
To be an active member of a discourse community it means that your participation is required in order to take the credit for being classified into that specific community. If there is a group project your team is the discourse community and if you don’t participate and put forth the amount of equal work necessary for you part of the project then you are not an active member of that discourse community. I feel this is the concept of which i grasped from reading Swales’ Conceptualization of Discourse Communities.

Writing Across The University
Writing what you want and when you want to is the prompt to all writing and finding the points in the reading, i believe, really back up my opinion for what writing really is. As much time and effort is really just in the heart of the writer themselves. But writing is just a way to document the ideas of people and how they portray certain ideals onto paper. Using different discourses and sponsors really just puts the icing on the cake depending on what the specific person/s want to write about. Writing freely about ideas should be effortless when you have the ideas running through your head already. It might just mean to set a certain goal or opinion and achieving it through the art of writing, and everyone is different and no one thinks the same as their peers. So the art of writing may just be to the importance of each writer and what they want to achieve with each piece or product of their thoughts. Writing in school or at the university of which a person might attend is only a guidline or reference to set certain goals for a writer to write.

Shitty First Drafts
Being a student it was easy to connect to this article, sitting down and writing perfection is unheard of, you must have a draft to get your story going. Starting from somewhere may be "shitty" but in order to create the masterpiece of which you want to create you need to have "drafts". All good things happen in good time. Each draft you write and revise will get you closer and closer to the result you wanted from the beginning. Sooner or later you'll be satisfied with what you write due to drafts.

Malcolm X Learning to Read
This article describes the uprising of a "street hustler" to a well respected man in history and in the civil rights movement at the time in the black community. Learning to read was a great article to read to understand how literacy has effected change on a mans life and how literacy can develop a person. I looked at this article and started thinking of personal sponsors in the past and things that have effected the way i am in a literate standpoint. I remember as a child sitting at the kitchen table every night and reading the Narnia series out loud to my father or my mother while the other prepared dinner and i did this every night until i had finished the series which took about a year. This was a good tool for me to develop my skills as a reader and taught me certain skills to read out loud. I took this as a chore at the time and something that i dreaded when i got home but now looking back i can appreciate the fact that my parents pushed me to read. I think this memory applied to this article because of the sponsorship and moral that followed about reading.

Sponsors of Literacy
In "sponsors of Literacy" by Brandt it describes ways to becoming literate in ways other than formal literacy, such as technology in Rays circumstances which was a good tool for him. This article was a good representation on the different ways that you can come about literacy and the way that literacy has evolved for certain people. Literacy is a tool for life and is used to give ideas and express emotions in a different way of communication. This particular piece showed me the different ways or the different "Sponsors" all around us and how all things inevitably make an impact on my personal understanding of literacy.

Literacy in Three Metaphors
Literacy in one definition "the ability to read and write". I feel like it is important to reflect on its actual definition while writing about this piece and to deepen the thoughts that this piece is trying to connect with the reader. "Literacy as Adaption" is a confusing topic because its about adapting to literacy in personal and social environments, i think that Scribner did a great job using questions to make it more understanding for the reader. "Literacy as Power" I felt like this was an interesting way to talk about literacy as a relationship within a community or even culture. The third and final metaphor "Literacy as a State of Grace" is the connection between literacy and faith and this is important way to view literacy because all cultures have religious affiliations in some way.

WE ARE ALL WRITERS NOW
Day to day life involves little to no interaction anymore, but is this the interaction of a face to face nature or the non-sociable interaction among the civilians of our time? A sad but realistic thought to this problematic internet outbreak really deepens the depression of the "common sense" of today. Our future lies among the young adults who seem to actively participate in the vigorous but realistically rigorous activities that the internet now offers us. Facebook, twitter, instagram and the list goes on.... One day our era will be the laughing stock of the past and an unfortunate downturn of societal engagement. Instead of being a source of information the media is becoming a home base for animalistic behavior in our society, with precedence examples such as cyber bullying and being famous for being famous due to the consistent life involvement of social media, such as "stars" like the Kardashians, its painful as it is watching one family slowly and inevitably implode this universe with stupidity but imagine millions of them.... "i literally don't have the ability to even imagine that! lol! #kim/Kanye".
I don't know about you but there is no poetic ring to ""lunch with "bae"!"" from the eyes and ears of my life. I think we need to eliminate such use of these media sources and go back to the writing where a writer slaves over his/her typewriter smelling of cigarettes and burnt coffee grinds, just as Trubek said "Go back 20, 30 years and you will find all of us doing more talking than writing. We rued literacy levels and worried over whether all this phone-yakking and television-watching spelled the end of writing." well Anne i hate to be the bearer of bad news but the end may be near because unfortunately this era is not leading back into the right direction of writing. Frankly I don't think anyone really cares they are to busy with trying to come up with a list of "25 things about me" posts.
