she had not cared to hoist up her skirts, nor to grab her cloak. gentle features now turned to a scowl. tempers had exploded over breakfast, tongues let loose. the spy master had tried to stop her, perhaps to comfort, it wouldn’t be known, for she tore her elbow from his grip. 

outside, where the wind whipped + the air grew colder by the minute, it wasn't any better. but, she reasoned, it was better to make her point if she braved it. ignoring the two men who were surely trying help the situation, but not pick a side entirely, martha continued to march from the simple brick house. i’m sure you could imagine her relief when she spots a familiar face, to which wouldn’t debate about wrong + right + apologies. 

“ mutt ! what a lovely day it is, isn’t it ? ” look how her arms cross ! as if that might keep out chill. “ would you walk with me ? it’d be no further than the creek, + i will have you back before the morning drills. ” 

she truly tries to smile, but it isn’t very sincere. “ please ? ”
