“ ‘Cause she killed him. That’s bad.” At least as far as she was concerned, killing was wrong. It just felt wrong. The way he was looking at her made her breath shallow and it wasn’t until he looked away that she took a full one, the brush of his thumb on her wrist lifting goosebumps along her flesh. “Mister Evan... Autumn’s tired.”

“Don’t apologize,” he murmured, eyes still locked on the stains. “Why would you apologize?” He needed to get ahold of himself. The hypnotism of blood on her skin had him wanting to lick it off. Evan had always had an unhealthy fixation with blood, particularly human blood and its many variations. He had been studied it since he had come back as a demon. A side hobby, of course.
Forcing himself to look away, he loosened his grip, thumb running over her wrist.

“Piggy back ride?” She wasn’t sure what to expect until Alecto had crouched down and motioned to her back, and then the tiny girl realized and climb up with relief, resting her head on the redhead’s shoulder with a soft hum of comfort at being off her feet. “Autumn loves you, Mama.”
It was getting a little difficult to walk, with Autumn putting so much weight onto her. She stopped and offered: “Do you want me to give you a piggy back ride?” That would be a bit easier for her. “You should really rest.”

Offering up a shaky and watery smile, Autumn let Alecto lead her towards their home, her weight sagging more and more against the woman as they went. “So tired, Mama.”
Nodding, she agreed easily: “Of course we can. Whatever you want to watch.” Alecto enjoyed watching movies. Of course, she preferred things like American Psycho…but the music in Disney movies was almost always good. Regardless, she started moving, guiding Autumn back towards her apartment. Alecto was glad to have things back to some semblance of normal.

Eyes turning to him as he took her hand, she winced at how hard he was squeezing it, but said nothing as the pain was hardly much at all. It was the glazing in his eyes that caught her attention, confusing her for she wasn’t sure what it was or what it meant and it was the first time she’d noticed it.
“Cut his throat with the knife her Mama gave her. “ The words were mumbled and her eyes dropped from the far away yet still intense gaze that he held on her as his eyes seemed to drink in the condition she was in. “She’s sorry...”

“Not too fast, or you’ll make yourself sick,” he told her simply. If she vomited, it would get on his shoes. And he didn’t need that. Not to mention, it would dehydrate her. And then where would they be.
His mouth was dry as he studied the way red and rusted red streaked her pale skin. Catching her hand, he held it just a little too hard as his mind continued to glaze. Oh how artistic, it was. “What did she do?” he asked her, voice that same tight tone.  Had he missed a truly glorious show from a little field mouse? Yet another juxtaposition? And how beautiful it must have been. He wondered if there was security footage, perhaps.

“Home is good, she wants to go home, Mama.” Still pouting as she pulled back enough to lace her fingers through the nurse’s, Autumn hugged her arm to her chest and rested her head against it. “Can they watch Disney, Mama?”
Alecto wasn’t made for comfort - but she could pretend, if it would help Autumn calm down. She petted Autumn’s hair, resting her chin on the top of the girls head and letting her stay as close to her as she pleased. “You don’t have to be afraid anymore,” she assured her. “We can go home, and I can take care of you like I promised I would.”

Sniffling softly she tried to hold back the rest of her tears, nodding her head as she tried to tell herself that she wasn’t in trouble. That it wasn’t bad what she had done because he’d been trying to hurt her. Hugging the other woman tightly once more, she held onto her as if afraid she’d disappear if Autumn let go. “She was so scared, Mama.”
Alecto lifted a finger to gently wipe away Autumn’s tears. “You’re fine,” she assured her gently. “He was going to hurt you. You’re allowed to hurt someone if they’re going to hurt you.”

Glancing over as the other girl came to sit silently beside her, Autumn sighed softly, well aware that Tiger Lily most likely understood at least a little how she felt. Letting herself fall over slightly, her teddy hugged to her chest, she pillowed her head against the others shoulder.

Avery had been worried about Autumn, but now that she was cleaned up and not shaking as much she figured she should see how it was, she wasn’t expecting to be told to go away though. Avery frowned slightly and sat near to the other girl, watching her carefully to see if she looked at least okay.

Whining softly the tiny brunette pulled away to look up at the red head, tears falling from her lids and down her cheeks as she shook her head. “Autumn had’ta hurt him, Mama... he was gunna hurt her like Papa.. and she-... she hurt him just like Papa. Killed him, Mama. She’s so sorry!”
Tumblr media
Exhaling sharply as she suddenly had her arms full of Autumn, Alecto ran her fingers through the girls hair and offered a soothing hum. “Don’t worry, you’re fine,” she said. “I can take care of you again.”

Looking up at the sound of Alecto’s familiar and welcome voice, Autumn whimpered and threw her arms around her middle so she could bury her face into her stomach. “Mama...”
Tumblr media
Alecto had been trying to track Autumn down, but apparently she was a better hider than she thought. “I can, if you want,” she said reasonably. Mostly, she was just relieved that the girl was alright.

Hands holding onto his arms as he set her down, she used them to balance herself as she tested her legs, letting go hesitantly even once she was sure they would hold her. One hand on the counter as a precaution, she watched as he filled her a cup of water that she snatched from his hands the moment it was in reach, her attention completely on her rapid downing of the precious fluid.  The glazing of his eyes was missed on her, and she didn’t answer his question until after she’d caught her breath from her furious chugging of the water. “No. A man attacked her and she-...” Falling silent as her eyes misted over she shook her head. “Not hers.”

Evan raised a brow before moving to help her down easily. She weighed next to nothing already, and with his improved strength, lifting her was as easy as lifting the doll he had given her had been. Setting her on her feet, he heard her request and a small smirk came to his lips.
“Fortunately, little field mouse,” he said, “we are in a kitchen.” He moved to open the refrigerator, lifting out a pitcher of water and setting it on the counter before finding and filling a cup for her. It was then, however, that he noticed the blood caking her face and clothing. He paused, his eyes glazing. “Is that blood yours?” He asked, voice slightly tight.

Over. It was over. The smallest of sobs, a sound of happy relief, breathed past her lips, the audible sound of the swelling of her chest as it filled her with enough strength to turn herself over and pull herself to the edge of the fridge so she could reach thin and trembling arms out towards him with a whimper for a plea for him to help her from her ‘burrow’.
Speaking above a whisper was nearly impossible, for after the last person to come into the kitchen had met a bloody end, she’d stopped her sneaky excursions from hiding. It had just become too dangerous and she hadn’t wanted to move. “Thirsty..”
Hide & Seek || Autumn & Evan
Evan was surprised, then, that the despair came from the little field mouse. Looking up at her, he raised a brow. “Autumn. What are you doing up there?” Was she still hiding? How had Alecto not come looking for her yet? “The slaughter is over, little field mouse. Wouldn’t you like to come down?”
He couldn’t see much of her. If she was injured, however, he would certainly be taking her down to the examination room.

Her body had stiffened and senses hit full alert the moment she’d heard footsteps step into the kitchen instead of past it, but she was too tired to lift her head to see who was there and she just decided to wait for them to come and go. It was easier that way, and she’d conserve precious energy as she was running desperately low on it.
It was the sound of his familiar voice that caught her attention, and lifting her head off of her arm, she whimpered softly as she tried to force words out through a sand paper throat, barely able to achieve more than a whisper of her name for him. “Mister Doctor?” Peering through the spaces between the pots, she spot him and it gave her just enough strength to lift out a hand to knock a single stack of them out of the way so her pale hand could fall limply over the side of the top of the refrigerator.
Hide & Seek || Autumn & Evan
Evan hadn’t really thought much of the event. He had spent the good majority of it listening to Stravinsky and reading Grey’s Anatomy. Now that it was over, however, and the floors had been cleaned, he had been fine to venture out with the understanding that his Italian leather shoes wouldn’t be ruined.
The kitchen had been his first stop, as he’d needed a few things to help him in finishing up the final curing process of his new piece of artwork for the wall. However, he had paused at the heavy scent of despair. Grinning a sinister sort of grin, he called out in a lilting voice. “Fee fi fo fum.”

Hide & Seek || Autumn & Evan
Things had gone quiet long before, but she couldn’t bring herself to come down from her hiding place, so she waited instead for someone to come looking for her. She knew she couldn’t protect herself from most of the others, so it was safer to stay where she was. Still hidden by her wall of pots, she hugged her knees to her chest with her bear between them, eyes closed as she slept a half sleep as she had for days.
Every time she closed her eyes, all she could see was her father and that boy bleeding over her with that same dying look in their eyes, just as they had worn the same look when they’d attacked her. Mind and heart exhausted, all she had done the last day had been slip in and out of fitful sleep, waking as soon as someone would step into the now blood covered kitchen. Her hiding place had served her well, though now she was too tired, and too weak, to move.
