Five hours ago there were close to 12,000 comments on Jamie's post about Vent closing. I've read maybe 2.5k of those comments (mostly the earliest ones, just skimming for the gist in the last 2-3 days) and while some of it is shitposting and drama, there's still a lot of justified anger.

I've seen similar disasters on other apps I loved and yes, I'm bitter. Nobody learns from the past, it seems - including me, cos I keep hoping for stability and safety and wherever I think I've found it, it goes away.

I'm really not liking TalkLife. If it weren't for my Vent bestie being there I'd never log in again. All my time on Vent doesn't count? No, it doesn't. I'm back to being a Newbie 🤢 and I only have access to very limited emotion sets (and none of my faves, ofc).

Vent was threatened with shutdown before and it didn't happen. I seem to think it will happen this time, for realsies, but there's 5+ days left so something might yet change.

TL will not be my new home. I'm more comfy here but there's no way to post to muts only (except maybe a passworded side blog, if that's still a thing here?) and there is no way I want randos reading sensitive details about my life.

So, I dunno. I might have to look at bluesky? But that's more Twitter-like and I stopped using that years ago because it didn't feel safe.

Vent is the only place I've felt safe enough to write deep dark thoughts (and sometimes lighthearted silly ones). I say "safe enough" because I haven't felt genuinely safe on Vent since before the migration, mainly because the block lists didn't transfer, and softblocking under 2.0 is crazy unpleasant if you need to block a lot of people (iykyk).

There is nowhere enough like Vent right now and maybe there never will be?
