I’m not sure what the problem is with the redesigns IMO. Personally the originals were made by Mattel to fit replecant toy molds they could use for multiple uses. All the female characters had the exact same figure. Even the male characters in She-Ra were copies of toy molds from He-Man. In the remake the mage characters are weak or chubby, the tough characters are buff and the agile characters are slim. The characters have more to them than just the glamor model look. Which isn’t a bad thing, but instead of doing that they went another route with the design. I hate when they just reuse the old design and add nothing to the look. Ex: PPG 2017. But rather change the designs and add a deeper backstory to the characters Ex: Thundercats 2011. The He-Man and She-Ra cartoons (as goofy and campy as they are. I love old bows design and would love to cosplay that in the future.) were just a commercial for toys.
As for the animation and look changes I feel a lot of things that happened to the She-Ra cartoon reminds me of how people were apprehensive of how people felt about the 2003 Teen Titans cartoon. The changes made in Titans 03, like making it anime inspired and changing the characters looks from the original comics were not always warmly accepted.
Though I say this as someone who didn’t grow up with the old She-Ra cartoon. But I feel if something can be improved or add new properties to something that was built as a cash grab originally then I accept it as trying. The new TMNT design rubbed me the wrong way at first until I learned it was built off the fact that they wanted there body types to match their personalities and fighting style and it actually make Leonardo unique to the other turtles. So I give these designs props for actually having some thought put into them other than fight easy to reuse toy molds.
What do u think of the new She-Ra designs?
Just from a design perspective, I guess the overall aesthetic just seems clumsily mishmashed together and begs the question ‘why didn’t they just make their own show with new characters if they were going to drastically change the source so much’ imo

@supersoftly Personally if it’s about Bakugo’s mom, I understand it as a way to show where Bakugo gets his anger issues from. To me it’s about countering his bad attitude with her own, but I don’t believe that’s entirely healthy. If my mom and me screamed at each other all the time I’d probably be still angry and shitty. Though I like how it balances out that she deeply cares for her child and knows what he is and respects that as long as he takes care of himself and puts effort into his work and become a hero that’s all that matters. To be honest that’s what I think all mother’s want of their children. Granted we only see her for only like half a minute so that’s all speculation.
If anything I like how Bakugo and Midoriya are so much like their mother’s personality wise and it’s kinda cute.
I like you’re breakdown of why Bakugo’s a better Rival and character than people give him credit for. Honestly, in the first couple of arcs it was hard to like or tolerate him, but as you see more of him you understand him and his dedication to be a hero. It doesn’t make up for the things he’s done in the past but it makes him a more rounded character than we’ve seen in a Shonen Jump manga. IMO, Horikoshi does an amazing job balancing the good and bad his attitude has on his goal to be a hero.
Thank you. I do enjoy the Byronic hero trope, ngl and like you said, Horikoshi deserves the credit for creating characters of depth and interest that don’t necessarily align flawlessly. Hell, just look at Hawke’s latest arc and his principles, these sorts of debates have been arguably very much the very staple motif of MHA, exemplified in the Illegals. His world is full of discourse and narrative, where characters function on their own principles as much as our own. I love Midoriya as a character, but honestly speaking he is unrealistic, whereas people like Bakugou, Stain and Gentle are much more nuanced by being so imperfect. I don’t think pointing this out excuses their behaviours, but I think people overlook what makes them good characters just cuz they don’t like ‘em.

@concentrated-sunshine Glad I’m not the only one who caught that.
Pope Francis continues to be a problem.
Indeed. I try not to speak ill of the Holy Father but he is causing issues. His reign has been littered with controversy, and I fear to imagine how many people have had their faith shattered by his words and actions. At a time when there is so much controversy surrounding the Vatican because of sexual abuse, the last thing we need is a Pope causing his own controversy on top of it.
Pray for the Pope and all the clergy at the Vatican, speak up for and pray for the good clergy like Cardinal Burke, Cardinal Sarah, Bishop Schneider etc, and remember that God has the final victory.

Stop bullshitting, @thespectacularspider-girl, we all know you wrote that ask.
I'd just like to say, as someone who would like to see your tits, that you're a wonderful person and it confuses and hurts me that anyone would submit mean asks to your tumblr, or send any meanness your way in general. You deserve all the nice things.
