Please pay no mind to the backwards spine

This book was a learning experience re: casing it in. Please enjoy a play by play of its process:
Ngl I'm still absolutely in love with how I formatted this. Opening it up to take pics? It looks great.
Hi! I loved your fic "My Name On Your Lips", it's a fic I come back to over and over again to read. Like, the story and your magic system and interpretation of the ABO verse is just *chefs kiss*. I've been learning to make books, and I'd love to bind your story - for myself, and a copy for you as a gift, if you'd like? Let me know if it's okay and whether you'd like a copy!
Hi there! I am so sorry if you asked this 1000 years ago, Tumblr at some point was like "What if I never showed you when you had new messages?" and so I'm only just seeing this. (It also doesn't show me how old the message is, which is GREAT.) Anyway, if for some reason you still want to do this, I would be absolutely thrilled - no worries if you have moved on to other things, though! Happy 2025! @themodethecitythesoul

im gonna be a huge sap and ask for...wedding fic. how do they prepare?? how do they FEEL??? who cries?? (me. i cry)
“Apologies, Highness,” says the herald wearily. “You muddled the lines about history and lineage.”
“Again,” says Laurent.
Damen sighs, impatient. “This seems needlessly complicated.”
“You have said that,” says Laurent, “four times within the hour.”
“And yet it never stops being true.”
“I know. You wish we could be married in the Akielon style, and be done.”
“We will be married in the Akielon style.”
“A blow to the head and throwing me over your shoulder?”
A hush with the tension of teetering glass falls over the guards and servants in the room. Laurent throws a thin-lipped smile at his betrothed, and feels his skin dance with the knowing heat in the look that Damen throws back at him.
“Oh, it’s different for kings,” Damen says. “We don’t dirty our hands; we get someone else to knock our spouse unconscious. I’ve had ten separate people volunteer for the job.”
Laurent’s face breaks before he can stop it. He’s not entirely on guard, here, surrounded by the activity of two kingdoms and two traditions and one immense, ponderous, all-important ceremony. Someone is trying to fit Damen for some garment or other, and Laurent doesn’t think Damen has noticed yet. His dark eyes are still delighting in Laurent’s laughter.
They will be married in the Akielon style. They will be married in the Veretian style. No head injuries will be involved, but if Laurent has to endure a formal dance that ends with their hands being joined and covered with olive leaves, Damen can put his mind to learning a few lines of recitation.
“Barbarian,” Laurent says lightly.
Damen says, in Akielon, “I wish we could be married today. I am tired of waking up in a world where you aren’t mine. All of this is just…words.”
Laurent’s breath catches. The furtive, curious quiet of the room doubles in intensity.
“Ten minutes,” Laurent says. It’s a dismissal.
When the room has emptied but for the two of them, Laurent goes to the table and flicks through the pages of the Veretian ceremony–along with the added sections for royalty, and a whole new section, the ink barely dry, creatively drawing on a legend of harmony born out of war, to allow for the fact that the King’s intended will not be expected to bring forth heirs in the usual way. He finds what he’s looking for, the call and response, and hands the page to Damen.
“Start at the top,” Laurent says.
Damen raises his eyebrows and reads, “Who walks this path and leaves their shoes behind?”
Laurent says, “I come to you in trust, with the skin of my feet unprotected.”
“Who poured this cup to over-full and spilled water on the floor?”
“I come to you in plenty, and pledge you all that I have.”
“Who stands alone in such a room of souls?”
“I come to you in pride, and give only myself away.”
“Who ground the salt that now sits on your tongue?”
Laurent almost misses the cue. He is remembering one of the few weddings he saw as a child: bare toes beneath the sweep of the bride’s dress, the hem of it wet from stepping willingly across the puddle of water. The groom’s mouth, smiling, open for the white salt.
He says quickly, “I come to you in sorrow, heavy with all the tears yet to come.”
“Who bares their hands of gold and silver, and shows only skin?”
“I come to you in joy, light with my choice.”
“Who.” Damen swallows. “Who holds their heart so still beneath the knife?”
“I come to you in love, with my life’s blood for the taking.”
Damen opens his mouth, looks at the paper, and then lets his hand fall to his side. Awe rims his eyes like bruising fatigue. In the steady light of his expression, Laurent feels unbreakable.
“Just words,” he says.
“You’ve made your point,” Damen says.
“Damen,” Laurent says. “I’m yours already.”

Red Beans And Rice
So with all the shit going on, it's time i started sharing my cauldron-o'-food recipes. Because im physically and financially incapable of cooking for all of you, but I CAN do this.
So. My family's red beans and rice recipe.
Equiptment Get:
large pot
stirring implement
cutting board
knife
(optional) instant pot/pressure cooker
(optional) rice cooker
Food Get:
1 bag(1lb) of dry red beans. Or really any beans
2 links of basic-ass-bitch smoked sausage. Can also use other smoked meats but this is cheap and low spoons
1 onion. chopped
3-6 cloves of garlic. Canned+minced or fresh and minced whatever's there
spices. Salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper are my good tos
rice. however much you and your family are gonna eat
pepper vinegar. while this is a condiment and technically optional, it's a must for me. How to make listed below
0.5: Pepper Vinegar
This needs to be done like 3 months ago. Locate some vinegar(i like white wine). Locate some spicy peppers. Boil the vinegar and sterilize the bottle. Shove the peppers in the bottle. Pour the vinegar back into the bottle and seal. Leave for a few months
1: Prep Beans
There are 3 ways.
Cover beans in water in the large pot and soak overnight
Cover beans in water in the large pot and boil for 2 hours(Grammy's hack)
Cover beans in water in instant pot/pressure cooker and cook on high pressure for 30 minutes. let the pressure naturally release for 15 minutes before releasing pressure(my hack)
2: Sautee
Heat a couple tablespoons of neutral oil in the large pot(or skillet if using the large pot to soak/boil beans)
Cook chopped onion until fragrant
Add minced garlic and spices and continue to cook until garlic is fragrant
Add chopped sausage pieces and cook until sausage has shrunk down a little
3: Simmer
Combine beans and onion+sausage mixture in the large pot.
Add enough water to cover.
Simmer, stirring occasionally, for 2ish hours, or until beans have softened, liquid is thickened, and flavors are melded
4: Rice
Cook rice according to your preference while the beans cook. I use a $20 rice cooker from target and it's great, but whatever works
5: Eat
Serve beans over rice and add pepper vinegar and/or hot sauce to taste
If you don't like spice just a splash of plain white wine vinegar is still amazing
So yeah. This recipe scales pretty much as far up as your biggest pot. You can feed tons of people with this and it's filling af. Also has a comfort food vibe which we all need right now tbh
See pictures of finished pot and also the dregs of my dinner lol

So there's a poll going around re: enjoyment of fan works and their distance from canon, specifically ship-focused. And while I'd like to interact with it, the options seem COMPLETELY unrelated to the question????
All of the options are based on canonical relationships--have they spoken before? How often? Is one of them a side character with two lines?
But that's not what makes a ship 'canon compliant' to me. Other than the most boring 'did they kiss at the end' manner, which isn't always an actual thing especially with queer ships. Like, by that logic Korasami and even Kataang aren't canon in the scope of their respective og shows.
I saw someone say that they ship Widowjest and think that it's degrees of separation from canon???? No it aint! It wasn't end game but it can damn well be written with the characters being canon compliant, even if the situation is not.
Thats the core of it, for me. It's that canon when it comes to ships is not defined by canon interaction with each other, but canon consistency of each of their behavior. A ship of Protagonist A/Side Character With 2 Lines can be canon compliant with maaaaaaaybe a couple degrees of separation, as long as their characterization is consistent. In my mind, while it would have to be labeled 'canon divergent' it would still feel 'canonical' to me.
There's a poll option to the tune of 'I'm willing to bend canon and/or characterization to make it work'. Those are two different things!!!?! You bend one and it's the same people in a tiny different au. You bend the other and you have a couple of--potentially compelling-- OCs. So that option makes no sense in this context?!
Idk. I've seen this thing go by all week and it's been making me want to put a grouchy essay in the tags. But that's rude so here's this instead.
