kathryn elizabeth potter | slytherin | halfblood
Born just 11 months after her older brother, Kathryn Elizabeth Potter entered the world on May 14th, 1981. Six months later, on Halloween Night, she and her brother Harry (her “Irish twin,” really) became orphans. Petunia Dursley, along with her husband Vernon, reluctantly found themselves taking in the children of her estranged sister, Lily.
“Surrogate children” they were not to be, however. Petunia and Vernon instead lavished all of their love and attention on their son, Dudley, while treating the Potter siblings as second-rate members of the family. Harry and Kathryn often found themselves with the bare minimum, and little to no emotional support. It was a lonely and difficult way to grow up.
For the first five or so years of her life, Kathryn Potter’s world was very much limited to her aunt, uncle, cousin, as brother within the walls of Number Four Privet Drive. Her chores were done with little much complaint; she learned that being quiet and obedient would be rewarded; and she assumed sleeping in the cupboard under the stairs with Harry was, well, normal. She accepted her aunt and uncle’s authority without very much protest because she didn't know any other way.
But that would start to change when she started primary school at St. Grogory’s, however. Underneath the surface was an increasingly strong-willed child, and while it was subtle at first, Kathryn slowly began to assert herself more. It was also the year she met a girl named May, who would, in time, become her closest friend. Over the course of their reception year, Kathryn found May to be the only person she knew, besides her brother, who genuinely wanted to spend time with her -- who cared about her.
Amidst behavioral problems at school and expanding her world to May's house (across the street and to the left), life at Number Four Privet Drive remained as it always had. Unexplainable things happened around Harry, Dudley was a spoiled ponce but he didn't let other people pick on her, there were chores to be done and nights spent in the cupboard beneath the stairs with Harry (until she was moved to Dudley's old bedroom at age 8), Uncle Vernon thought of them as gum beneath his shoe, Kathryn got in trouble for throwing destructive temper tantrums, and Aunt Petunia looked at her with an expression of disappointment, bitterness, and pain.
Through it all, she and her brother remained close. Their shared experience in the Dursley household created a unique bond, even for siblings. No matter what, they always had each other's backs and at the end of the day, it was them against the world. But then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, their whole lives changed -- he was a wizard and she was a witch, like their parents, and her brother left Surrey for a magical school in Scotland called Hogwarts.
While Kathryn would join him at Hogwarts the next year, along with May (her best friend turned out to be a witch, too), the "Year Without Harry" was a rough one. Kathryn was left with the Dursleys, and childish as it might've been, she felt abandoned by the one person who promised she'd never be alone. To boot, her life as a witch would be further complicated by the fact that her brother was actually famous in the Wizarding World because he defeated a dark lord as a freaking baby. He was special, the Boy-Who-Lived, but Kathryn? She was just his sister.
Hogwarts was not the refuge for her as it'd been for Harry. Where her brother found a home and a family, a place of belonging, Kathryn still felt like an outsider. Harry Potter's sister, obliviously raised by hateful muffled, was sorted into Slytherin and struggled to fit in. It was an unfortunate coincidence that she also brought the mysterious black book she found in her things after her first trip to Diagon Alley with Harry and the Weasley horde. Tom Riddle manipulated and used her to get to her bother, while in turn, Kathryn manipulated and used Ginny Weasley to get what she thought he promised her: perfect Tom Riddle, real and in the flesh, all for her. In the end, Harry rescued both girls from the Chamber, but it was Kathryn, horrified and angry and betrayed, who drove a basilisk's fang through her once-beloved diary.
QUOTE QUOTE
+Assertive, Resourceful, Independent, Quick-Thinking, Determined, Mischievous
-Stubborn, Caustic, Temperamental, Vindictive, Cynical, Defensive
Having grown up an orphan in the neglectful environment of her aunt and uncle's home, one of the first life lessons Kathryn Potter ever learned was the importance of self-reliance. She has a chip on her shoulder, something to prove, and is always ready for a fight. She’s vulnerable and prickly, she’s warm and friendly and wonderful, but pushes you away the second you get too close to the nerve.
Extremely protective of her genuine emotions, but not always so great at holding them back, Kathryn uses sarcasm or humor to deflect and hides behind her anger. If there was one thing she took away from growing up at Number Four Privet Drive, it was that aggression is the most effective way to respond. Anger/aggression is hard and firm, it shows people you mean business, it's something you can wield. Used to taking care of herself, she is neither comfortable nor skilled at asking for help or letting herself depend on other people. Her main priority is survival – and saving face, because the last thing she wants to be (or seem) is weak.

oona doyle | 24 | muggleborn | order of the phoenix
“Oona's a good, strong name -- Ma says it means 'lamb.' Can't really say I'm much of a lamb but it gets people's attention. Ma always says it was her favorite name; she saw me when I came out and knew 'twas mine. What else...Well, I’s born in Derry an' it's where me heart is. Things weren’t pretty, sometimes they were pretty bad, but it’s home, ye know? I wouldn’t trade it for nothin’, s’made me who I am.”

former Leaky Cauldron waitress (among other things)
spiritual, passionate, action-oriented, outspoken, decisive, focused, quick-thinking
loves the underdog; has strong instinct to protect & defend

MBTI:
INFJ personalities usually have many strong opinions, especially when it comes to issues they consider really important in life. If an INFJ is fighting for something, this is because they believe in the idea itself, not because of some selfish reasons.
Strengths:Determined and passionate;; altruistic;; inspiring and convincing;; very insightful
Weaknesses: Extremely private ;; can burn out easily;; very sensitive;; perfectionistic;; always need to have a cause
WAND: Ash, Dragon Heartstring, 11 inches, firm
The ash wand cleaves to its one true master and ought not to be passed on or gifted from the original owner, because it will lose power and skill. This tendency is extreme if the core is of unicorn. Old superstitions regarding wands rarely bear close examination, but Mr. Ollivander finds that the old rhyme regarding rowan, chestnut, ash and hazel wands (rowan gossips, chestnut drones, ash is stubborn, hazel moans) contains a small nugget of truth.
Those witches and wizards best suited to ash wands are not, in Mr. Ollivander's experience, lightly swayed from their beliefs or purposes. However, the brash or over-confident witch or wizard, who often insists on trying wands of this prestigious wood, will be disappointed by its effects. The ideal owner may be stubborn, and will certainly be courageous, but never crass or arrogant.
FAMILY:
4th of seven siblings, including two sisters and three brothers.
Comes from a family of Republicans, and grew up overhearing more than her fair share of political conversations about civil rights for ‘her people’ and the corrupt Irish Free State. Her father used to drag all of his children who could walk to hear the speakers on their soapboxes and their radio was always broadcasting some underground nationalist station. Their small flat was also filled to the brim with books and newspapers,.
Her Da was on the housing action committee, never stopped talking about how important it was to fight for reform. Members of her family were always marching in one demonstration or another, sometimes coming back battered and bruised.
Her oldest brother, Connor (whom she adored) joined the newly Provos, not long after the Battle of the Bogside. He didn't care if the Protestants were poor or not but their Da couldn't stop quoting Marx, talking about class conflict.
But then her Da is detained and tortured , never the same., and Oona sees Connor's body, bloody and broken like Christ himself, courtesy of the UVF. None of the Doyle's were ever the same after that.
HOGWARTS/MAGIC/THE WAR:
Oona was no stranger to sluts being thrown at her on the street, the sounds of riots outside their window, rules and boundaries they weren't supposed to cross because it was dangerous. So when she encountered a different kind of prejudice in the magical world, it didn't really feel as though much had changed.
As Voldemort rose more prominently to power, his murders taking up pages in the Prophet and his followers began growing, she found herself becoming more deeply embroiled in the ongoing conflict -- it was always emotionally relevant for her, of course, but Oona preferred to keep her distance. She had her own fighting waiting at home, didn't she? Somewhere along the line, that changed. Perhaps with maturity and time, perhaps it was just inevitable. Oona was not made to sit on the sidelines, to turn a blind eye. If she did that, if she refused to embrace the contradiction of belonging to two opposing worlds, made the choice to turn her back on a fight that is intimately hers just as much as the one at home, then could she honestly live with herself?
In the end, the answer was no.
Peace may not be acheived, as Oscar Romero wrote, through the fear or terror, the silence of cemeteries, or the silent result of violent oppression, but peace cannot happen without action. In the case of the war the wizarding world finds itself embroiled in, much like the one her family fights at home, there is too much bitterness and anger and blood for peace to come without a fight. An age of hope can only be reached when the world is set up properly for it to occur, and sometimes that means people must die. Contrary to what some might say, there are things in the world worth dying for, and as a Doyle, Oona knows more than a few of them. Maybe one day she'll end up beaten to death on someone's front porch like Connor or tortured and never the same like her Da, but she's not afraid. Never afraid.
i am not broken. i am free

PRIYA S. SHINDE
“People don’t wanna be compared to the teenage girl; the teenage girl is hated, teenage girls hate themselves.Even just things like being cripplingly self conscious or overly concerned with our appearance, that’s considered like a teenage girl thing and therefore its ridiculous, it’s stupid, it’s not relevant or legitimate, and you know, what we needed at that age was legitimization and respect and support but all we got was dismissal and “Oh, you’re such a teenage girl.” {x}
family life
There's nothing particularly wrong with Priya's family or homelife. She's had a stable, middle-class upbringing, has two parents who love her, and two siblings who've done no permanent psychological or physical damage. Score!
Neela Shinde (mother): Mumbai-born immigrant, works as a translator for the Dept. of International Magical Cooperation at the Ministry. Wants the best life possible for her children, but it also means she can be as pushy as she is loving. For Priya, it can often feel overbearing, mostly because they disagree and she wants to march to the beat of her own drum. She feels a lot of pressure from her mum to be more like her older siblings, who were more academically-minded, and have more direction than she does.
Nicholas Shinde (father): Manchester-born Anglo-Indian. musician and works in the advertising dept. of the Wizarding Wireless Network. More of the laid-back artistic/creative type than his wife. Priya adores and knows how to manipulate him (in a loving way?). From him, she gets a love of muggle music and mad guitar skills. He's got this sound-proofed room down in their basement full of albums from wall to wall and some of her favourite memories are dancing around with him and Mira while they played them at full volume. If anybody understands that she wasn't interested in conventional academic subjects and things, couldn't sit still long enough to read a book, then it is him.
Siblings: Mira (18) and Vik (21). Her older brother is smart and organized but socially awkward. People make him nervous so he likes to avoid them. Her sister, on the other hand, is a much more balanced personality than Vik or Priya -- creative, but down-to-earth; driven but relate-able; sociable and outgoing but definitely a leader. There's this love-hate sort of relationship going on, because as little kids there was this push and pull, this tension, between wanting to be just like Mira and never quite being able to. Priya absolutely idealised her. The two got along well enough, and their personalities overlap and are complimentary, but the love-hate has only intensified with time. She hates that she wanted to be Mira and knows she won't ever be able to and feeling inadequate.
It doesn't help that everybody compares her to both Mira and Vik.For Priya, there’s always a nagging voice in the back of her mind, maybe because her mother in particular has never “celebrated” her uniqueness like a parenting book will tell you to, that whispers about how she's never gonna be good enough. She can never be the daughter her mother wants, the student her professors want her to be, etc.
personality -- enfp/pisces/hufflepuff
strongest functions: extroverted sensing (immediate action for immediate results, follows impulses) to influence their introverted feeling (preference for peace over conflict, laid back, action-driven rather than spoken love
weaker functions: extroverted thinking (planning, scheduling, doing what's necessary to accomplish goals) and extroverted intuiting (pondering the ultimate "what if?" with the possibility that all ideas may not be plausible)
pisces traits: idealism, intuition, empathy, imagination, creativity, adaptability, gullibility, lack of backbone, escapism, impracticality, emotional game-playing, inability to say 'no.'
TAG: {x}
When you bring these two frameworks together along with being sorted into Hufflepuff, this is kind of a summation of Priya's personality:
spontaneous go-with-the-flow lover of the fun & beautiful things in life who has a lot of energy. being an extrovert gifted with intuition, she's great at understanding other people as well as interacting with them. This means she has a wide social net, with varying degrees of closeness. But she does care about other people, and loves to give advice. Priya is shit at making plans and lives primarily in the moment, and loves Divination because it can give her direction and possibilities. Structure and routine stifle her, as do negative emotions. She doesn't like to dwell on them, and escapes into materialism and an obsession with romance to distract herself. If she doesn't think about them or talk about them, they don't exist, right? When negativity builds up and becomes overwhelming, Priya will lash out at the people around her. While she prefers to be the peacemaker, she can sometimes be the drama-instigator, especially when frustrated. A follower, not a leader, she'll go along with other people or trends but it doesn't mean she can't "think for herself." People who say that just don't like the decisions she's made, clearly.

ANTONIN I. DOLOHOV
"And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see. And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. "
-revelation 6:7
antonin iosif dolohov
born 30th october, scorpio
slytheirn graduate & death eater
junior assistant to the head of magical law enforcement
wand: 13 inches, ebony with dragon heartstring core, inflexible
charismatic, opportunistic, risk-taking, possessive, power-hungry, unapologetically ruthless.
family
The Dolohovs are of Russian origin, but neither Antonin, his sister, or his parents have ever set foot on Russian soil. His grandparents were pureblood émigrés who left their homeland in the wake of the muggle October Revolution & civil war that followed. The threat of losing their lives along with their lands lead many to defect to countries like England (as with the Dolohovs) and France (as did Nadine's parents), where they integrated themselves into the existing pureblood society. Iosef and Nadine's marriage was arranged by their families, who wanted to keep the diaspora families connected as they would have been in their homeland.
iosef (daddy) dolohov could hardly be described as a loving man, and was always quite distanced from his children. He had other things on his mind that took a higher priority -- the Dark Lord, for example. Iosef attended Hogwarts with one Tom Riddle, and became one of his first followers. To this day, he remains a respected figure in the Dark Lord's inner circle. nadine (mummy) dolohov, on the other hand, perhaps would have been a more stable figure if she could have been. Unfortunately, she suffers from chronic depression and although she cares for her children, Nadine Dolohov often shut herself away, leaving her children to their own devices.
childhood
Antonin was volatile; controlling his temper was a skill he had not quite developed yet as he'd been able to do as he grew into a teenager and then a young adult. But more than that, he wanted attention, as he always has. So perhaps it was less a lack of self-control and more a dramatised version of it, for the purpose of catching the attention of either one of his parents, whether that attention was positive or negative. He didn't notice (or chose not to notice) the frightened, worried look in his sister's eyes when his would take on that crazed look and throw his toys or torture house elves. He liked to think, as he does now, that his sister adored him, as a younger sister ought to admire her older brother.
At Hogwarts, Antonin was sorted into Slytherin, and appropriately so. While he is certainly an intelligent man, and was a talented student, Ravenclaw would hardly have been a proper fit for the boy who thirsted for recognition and respect from his peers. Even early on, Antonin knew he wanted to be like his father. He wanted people to look at him, too, with a mixture of fear and awe, but he never wanted them to do it because of his father or last name. So he worked hard to prove himself by his own merits so that everyone would know just who Antonin Dolohov was and why they ought to see him as a force to be reckoned with. Occasionally, he found himself in trouble, but by and large he managed to charm his professors and was a Slytherin prefect, all the while subtly abusing his powers to the benefit of himself and his own.
building a better world
It should come as no surprise to anyone that Antonin took the Dark Mark the very day he graduated from Hogwarts and could swear his total and unequivocable service to Lord Voldemort. Even if he were not as convinced at the necessity of Voldemort's vision, he would still have taken the mark. It was expected of him from the moment of his birth, really, as the son of Iosef Dolohov. He was raised steeped in the ideology of blood supremacy and of the Dark Lord's vision for the future. "Look what happens when you let muggles ran rampant," his father would say; "Look at your family's homeland, where their ideologies have led to our marginalisation, our exile! And instead of utopia, what do they have?
Therefore, he wears his Dark Mark with pride and sees himself as an agent of change and promise -- he sees himself as the future of the wizarding world. There is not a doubt in his mind that he and his comrades will prevail in the end, that the Order and its supporters will be crushed beneath the Dark Lord's feet, and a new order will emerge. A glorious order at that, one where people know and understand their place and respect their betters. Unlike the failed muggle attempts at utopia by the Bolsheviks and Communists his father spoke of, Lord Voldemort's attempt will not fail. The world will be set right and he is determined to be a bringer of that world, no matter what the cost.
self-construction
The key to understanding Antonin is to recognize and then understand his skewed perceptions of both the world and himself. Even so young as age twenty, he has built up a very particular construction of himself and his importance. Standing outside of that construction, his actions can seem disordered and cruel, but you see, that is not how Antonin views them. Not even a little bit -- no matter how removed those perceptions are from the reality experienced by others, they are the force that drives his every decision and thought. In a way, they are real...just only to him.
antonin sees himself as brilliant, important, and superior. As a pureblood, he's part of a superior race and thus above all of those who aren't in pedigree, intelligence, magical talent, and morality.
His blood affords him a special and particular place in society, a place of leadership and authority that is his birthright. If it weren't for all the lies propagated by men like Dumbledore and his mudblood-loving cohort, then people would give him the respect he feels he deserves. They would know their place! That is where his brilliance lies; Antonin sees through the lies. He is enlightened, but others are not. His superiority in all things also comes with an obligation to educate others and bring them to this same level of enlightenment, to free them, even. And once they are free, they will be able to truly appreciate him to give him the kind of attention he deserves, which is for them to love him for what he has given them.
Antonin constructs himself as a sensitive man who is merely misunderstood. It is more appropriate to say that he likes to act like a sensitive man.
There are certainly many shades to his personality, but in the end, they are all self-serving, including this created sensitivity. He's a man of appetites to whom public imagine is very important -- much more important than the truth. He wants to be liked and respected by people far more than he actually respects and likes others, but he would never admit to such things. Instead, he clings to the belief that people just don't understand. Antonin does not hate muggles, muggleborns, halfbloods, of blood traitors -- oh no, it is worse than that. He pities them as poor, impressionable people.
But they don't, and it is his job to show them the true way. He wishes to preserve a prosperous future for the wizarding world and its people, but doesn't see a problem with manipulating them in order to do it.
When he presents people with the truth and they repeatedly throw his kindness and mercy back in his face, his anger is understandable, right? It is more than just understandable, actually, his actions are both necessary and justified.
Those who continually speak lies and poison the population must be stopped in order for that prosperity to be secured. It is they who cause the masses to hate him and his pureblood peers (or at least those who also are enlightened), to keep them from understanding who their superiors are, and instead reward that kindness with treachery. Those people...they do not deserve mercy from anyone, least of all him. Don't they see how they've left him, his fellow Death Eaters, and the Dark Lord with no choice but to use violence and force? No, no they don't. Instead, they foolishly bring unnecessary suffering upon themselves and those they love. It will be their fault, not his, if no one but Antonin and those like him are the only ones left to enjoy the Dark Lard's utopia. They make it clear that not only do they not deserve any mercy or kindness, but they do not deserve the utopia of the Dark Lord's promise itself! And therefore, they must be eradicated. It is thatsimple.
anything redeeming?
Like Tolstoy's Dolohov, Antonin may be a violent, cruel, and sadistic bit of a bastard, but that's not all he is. His younger sister, Zara, and their mother, bring out the best in him. He cares deeply for his troubled mother and has always felt in himself a brotherly sense of duty for Zara. It might be hard for many to imagine, but he cares for them in a way he does no one else. However, Zara is still very much something to be possessed by him. She is his sister, and he's convinced that no one else can care for her like he does, no one else knows her as he does, and therefore, no one else knows what is best for her as he does...including Zara herself. This causes him to be overbearing in his protectiveness of her, but it is out of love for her. Antonin believes it is his job to take care of her and won't let anyone get in the way.

mathilde cassandra dawlish | 20 | event planner
"to live is the rarest thing in the world. most people exist, that is all." - oscar wilde
her name is pronounced mah-teelde, but most of her friends call her "mattie" because "mathilde" sounds like an crotchety old witch with a hunchback
she is a TAURUS, born May 5th, 1958.
mathilde is the eldest of three -- her brother is a ponce and her sister has a permanent stick up her arse.
when she was 11, her grandparents were killed in a so-called accident and after that her family did a 180 from middle ground purebloods to supremacy
her sister is certain those grandparents were murdered, and somewhere deep down mattie knows that's the truth. doesn't mean she wants to believe it, though.
in school, she was a gryffindor much to her family's horror. luckily, she had her cousin Craig in the same house a year above her
her mum made sure she grew up to be "accomplished," and exposed both her daughters to art, music, and dance.
music & art were her favourites; while she has mediocre fine arts skills, mattie is a talented flautist.
growing up she was super competitive with her sister and to this day the two still have explosive fights. there is no one who can make her lose her temper like hazel, over the silliest of things.
mattie has always sociable - with a family so complicated as hers, friends are a must.
while she will often follow the rules of pureblood supremacy, she doesn't believe it has a future. it's unsustainable, and it is cowardice.
but her social status is important to her, & wants to be respect + well-liked. so she often feels pulled in multiple directions.
at times, mattie's proud & proper upbringing gets the better of her. ultimately, she's been sheltered so when faced with the unconventional she sometimes falls back on it.
her mother used to tell her that she had courage, that she was strong, but at twenty, mattie knows to be brave is dangerous.

by the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes
Once upon a time, there was a young wizard by the name of Borgin who was desperate to prove himself and lift his family up from abject bourgeois poverty. Growing up, Frederick had nothing, but he was smart, shrewd, and full of dreams and visions to fix his grandfather’s death sentence for the family. As a fresh Slytherin graduate, he decided to go into the business sector. Even though he wanted to start one of his own, he knew he couldn’t do it right away. He needed finances -- everything else he could supply himself. So he went from pureblood to pureblood until he found an older man by the name of Burke who believed in the vision. He pledged to back the dream, and the two drew up a business contract. One particular aspect of it, however, involved the unborn children of both men. Borgin promised his future daughter would marry Burke's future son, effectively sealing the two families together in a way that could not be so easily dissolved as a mere piece of paper. Simple, right?
Flash forward: Burke and Borgin both had their first-born sons around the same time; close enough that they were the same age and in the same year at Hogwarts. Burke went on to have two more children, both daughters. Borgin, however, had to have five more until he and his wife finally hit the lotto jackpot and gave birth to a little girl -- Sophia Ruth Borgin. By this time, Burke's eldest son was already nearly ten years old, and the future wife designated to him by the contract his own father wrote was a newborn. Awkward.
come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here
To make matters worse, this little one made a terrible girl. Really, let's be honest. Her parents didn't seem sure what to even do with one, and though they attempted to spoil and dote on her as one might do a daughter, all Sophie wanted to do was be with her brothers. An ordinary day in the Borgin home consisted of Eleanor Borgin chasing her youngest and only daughter around with some admonishment which began with “young ladies musn’t…” But it didn’t matter how much effort Eleanor put into trying to turn her daughter into something at least mildly resembling a lady, the young girl would have none of it, and Frederick Borgin adored his only daughter too much to push the issue further. And so Sophie grew up with five brothers around her playing quidditch, fighting and rough-housing, running through the woods, and generally 'being boys.' She was happy to tag along for as long as they let her. This girl climbed trees, spat, fought, played, and became the opposite of everything her mother hoped she would be. Her childhood shaped her into a little wild, a little rough around the edges, and a lotta confident tomboy -- something that would never change, marriage contract or no marriage contract.
Even from a young age, it was made clear to Sophie why her mother was so adamant about shaping her up to become a presentable young woman -- that is to say their marriage contract with the Burke family. At the time, the word 'marriage' meant little to Sophie, especially in association with the then-teenage boy it was attached to. They spent obligatory time around one another at family functions, and he was friends with her oldest brother. But he had this air about him which let her know exactly how much he thought himself cooler than her and that she was a child. By the time she was old enough to realise he was handsome, she also realised he made her feel self-conscious and inferior -- two things she loathed.
stars hide your fires, let not light see my black and deep desires
Together, with the shop and their growing family, they carved out a middle-class (at best) existence for themselves. Borgin was no longer a last name belonging to dirt poor nobodies. Unfortunately, it didn’t become very redeemed, either. They still scrape the bottom of the barrel as far as names, families, and wealth go among purebloods, and the six Borgin children face snobbery from their peers every day because of it. Perhaps that is why the Borgins are some of the most pureblood elitists you can find. Put simply, they have nothing else to cling to. The purity of their bloodline is the one thing they have, their only means of asserting their societal worth and any kind of superiority. If blood one day comes to mean nothing, then so will they, and that is something they can’t allow to happen. Because of this, the Borgins -- especially the latest generation -- fervently support the Dark Lord, in practice as much as philosophy. It also exists as a way to prove themselves and to better their name so that hopefully, in a generation or two, the Borgin name will generate the respect it is due.
Even Sophie is one of them -- at fourteen years old, she would grow up to become a death eater. Come hell or high water, she would bear the Dark Lord's mark. She would do it to prove herself, her worth, that of her family, and that of her sex. She'd do it because so many told her she could not. Her peers already looked down their nose at her, so instead of fulfilling someone else's fantasies, she's decided to fulfill her own. One day, they won't just respect her, they'll fear her.
She can hardly wait.

ROSALIND J. BARLOW
”Rosalind means something weird in Germanic or Norse, I dunno and don’t really care. Who even knows where he got Judith from. My dad's barmy. He named me after the heroine of Shakespeare’s comedy “As You Like It,” and my sister gets her name from “Much Ado About Nothing,” and my brother name is from the title character of “Othello.” Except he’s not black, just half-Brazilian. Basically, they both get their names from better plays and cooler characters. I’m just Rosalind – the girl who runs away and dresses up as a boy. That and I definitely don’t feel like the heroine of my own life.”
in a nutshell, Rosalind is a compassionate yet spastic nutcase who talks too much. But she means well, so that’s the most important thing. If you ask her what she thinks, she’ll tell you, and if you become a close friend, you have her loyalty and forgiveness for life. Once she’s got her eye on something, she’ll stick to it and work hard until the race is won.
