My Perspective: New Media vs. Traditional Media, which do I prefer?
Tumblr media
In today’s world, media plays a vital role in our daily life because it gives us information about what is happening in every corner of the world in just a matter of minutes or seconds without moving a foot. The information that media provides to us are wide and diverse, it can be about politics, economy, society or even about your neighbor’s FOTD or Food Of The Day. Media also serves as a medium that allows communication to occur. Throughout the years, the technology has gotten more advanced leading to the transition of Traditional Media to New Media.
Traditional Media refers to mediums that are part of our culture for over half a century. It comprises television, radio, print advertisements, and billboards. On the other hand, with the rise of computer technology, New Media used various kinds of electronic communications such as websites, online video/audio streams, email, online social platforms, online communities, online forums, blogs, Internet.

In the current age of technological advances, New Media is superior than Traditional Media. But New Media has its foundations built on traditional media and definitely has improved services and caters to the generations born in the era of technology. They New Media makes the exchange of information and communications a lot easier and more accessible. The world is evolving in fast-paced; smartphones, laptops, tablets and such are created in order to adapt in the digital world we are currently living in.  But I would be lying if I say that I don’t like the feeling of touching a new book with my fingertips and smelling the newly printed paper, then create a new world as I read along the pages. Gaining knowledge from Traditional Media is more comprehensive for me than New Media.
In conclusion, they are just the same for me when it comes to providing us with information. Both media are beneficial to us and both have its own advantages and disadvantages. The important thing for me is the responsible use of media.  “Knowledge is Power” and it’s all up to us to use that power, so we must use it wisely and intelligently.
