Goldilocks Explained
Mama Bear, Papa Bear, and Baby Bear have always enjoyed taking walks in the forest. Baby Bear would often go ahead of his parents and chase rabbits and squirrels.  But, on this particular day, months before Goldilocks invited herself into their home, the Bear family was out in the forest taking their usual walk and enjoying the beautiful weather they were having. As usual, Baby Bear was ahead scaring whatever animal he saw into hiding and hoping he could find some honey. But, as usual he would never catch the rabbits or the squirrels. To him it was just another day chasing animals in the forest.
On this day, Mama Bear and Papa Bear heard a splash, followed by a girl laughing.  They looked to where the sound came from and saw that same little girl they had seen days ago trying to hunt rabbits with the bow and arrow! She was in the lake swimming. “I may not be better than my brother Gabriel at climbing trees, or hunting, or fishing, but I’m definitely the better swimmer!” she announced happily to herself.
Mama Bear and Papa Bear listened to the little girl and realized that the past few times they’ve seen her, she was often by herself. They’ve never seen her with her brother. Mama Bear and Papa Bear looked at each other and understood that this little girl was lonely. Baby Bear at least had them for company and didn’t mind chasing the animals in the forest, but what this little girl wanted was some attention from her family. “No wonder she works so hard,” said Mama Bear.
“Yep,” agreed Papa Bear.

Goldilocks’Mother 1st Encounter with Papa Bear
Genevieve was a new mother to baby Goldilocks, and had gone out into the forest in search of dry wood to use for fire. She knew it was going to be tough finding dry wood as it had rained last night, but wood could dry as long as the sun was out.
So she had gone out that morning with her little red wagon her father had built for her when she was a little girl. As she ambled through the forest looking for branches that may have fallen during the storm that night, she felt as if someone was nearby. She became wary as she walked along, carefully choosing her steps. She heard a crunch and knew someone was near. She panicked and ran leaving her little red wagon behind. When she thought it was safe to stop running, she hid behind a tree. She took a peek and saw a giant brown bear. “Whatever could he be doing out here?” she thought to herself.  She saw that the bear was wearing an overall with a toolbelt wrapped around its waist, had an ax in his hand, and must have fallen the logs on the ground. “Whatever could he be doing with all that wood?” she wondered. She continued to watch the giant bear dragging the heavy logs one by one not too far from the lake. As the day got later and later and the bear’s project was getting close to being finished, she realized that the bear had been building a small cottage.
“Now is a good time to run home since all the logs have been dragged to his building site and the bear isn’t looking,” she thought. So, Genevieve ran, and ran, and ran. She had been so focused on finding wood that she hadn’t realized she had gone very far from home. “Oh, I hope Goldilocks is okay. Mother will be so upset with me.” She thought. “I’m late getting home, I left behind my little red wagon father built for me when I was a little girl, and I don’t have any wood. Plus, I’m starving! I hope mother has some porridge ready when I get home,”she thought.
So, Genevieve arrived home and told her mother, Gwendolyn, everything. But, her mother didn’t seem too surprised. In response to all that had happened to her, all she had said was, “Come to the kitchen. I have a new berry pie recipe I want to teach you.”

Bear’s Porridge Explained
Soon-to-be GrandMa Bear got up from her rocking chair to check on her pot of salmon porridge that was bubbling on the stove. She let out a deep sigh as she recalled how she ended up with the recipe in the first place and how for so many years now had been her son’s favorite porridge.
The day she became fast friends with Gwendolyn, a human grandma, was one of the best days of her life. She had met Gwendolyn while fishing by the lake that day. Gwendolyn was difficult to miss with her flowery dress and colourful hat. She had approached Gwyndolynn and asked her how the fishing was coming along. Gwendolyn was quite startled to find a bear talking to her that she stuttered, “No-oot goo-ood.” GrandMa Bear had just smiled and sat down next to her and they exchanged names and so forth. Finally, GrandMa Bear offered her a few fishes if Gwendolyn could give her her porridge recipe. But, Gwendolyn wasn’t about to be fooled. She didn’t just want fish for one day if GrandMa Bear was going to be using her recipe more than once. GrandMa Bear soon realized that she wasn’t dealing with a vapid human. So, GrandMa Bear offered to give her fish every day for a year to own Gwendolyn’s salmon porridge recipe.

A Cottage in the Forest
The Bear family needed their own home. Soon Mama Bear would deliver their first child and staying in GrandMa Bear’s small cottage was going to be rough. So, one day Papa Bear decided to take a trek down the mountain to search for a good place his expanding family could live. He made a list of all the necessities the area needed to have: close to GrandMa Bear, had existing wildflowers, was close to water, and, most important of all, had salmon.
So, Papa Bear walked down the bottom of the mountain and into the deep forest below. He knew from other visits down the mountain that there was a lake famous for it’s jumping salmon.  He decided to head that way. As he got closer, he could smell the difference in the air. “The air seems different here,” he thought. Then, he saw it! Water. “This is it,” he thought excitedly. “But, where are the wildflowers?” he wondered. He looked to the left and didn’t see any flowers. He looked to his right, and smiled. “Mama Bear will be so delighted to see those every day,” he thought.
After looking at the layout of the land, he decided to gather supplies for the cottage he was going to build for his family. “Boy, will they be happy to see what I’m about to build for us,” he says.
He dropped down logs and logs of trees until he knew he had enough and chopped them into the right-sized pieces for his floorplan.  Then, he started digging in the dirt to drop the posts down. Then, he created separation for the bedroom and kitchen. When that was all done, he put the roof up. Then, he put the doors and windows up. Happy with his work for the day, Papa Bear decided to go back to GrandMa Bear’s home and bring his family to their new home.
Mama Bear was so happy to see their new home. The first thing she wanted to do was cook Papa Bear’s favorite porridge…her way of saying, “thank you.” Later, she thought, “I’ll knit pink and white polka-dot curtains for the windows!”

Goldilocks a Tomboy?
For as long as Goldilocks could remember she had watched her older brother, Gabriel, climb trees, fish, hunt, ride a bicycle, and other fun outdoor activities. A little older now at age 9, Goldilocks wanted to have as much fun as her brother and help bring in food for the family. “I may be a girl,” she said out loud to no one in particular, “but I can do the same things my brother can do.”  So, one sunny morning, Goldilocks tried climbing the same trees Gabriel had climbed the other day. This tree was rooted in their backyard and already had notches cut out for her feet. Goldilocks soon realized it wasn’t as easy as Gabriel made it looked. She repeatedly fell down but each time she tried again, she got a little higher and a little more tired. “Last time,” she said out loud. This time when she fell down from the tree, the tree trunk scratched her arms pretty badly.
The next day, Goldilocks decided to hunt for their dinner. Gabriel was out fishing so she decided she could borrow his bow and arrow and rabbit traps. So, Goldilocks went to the forest and tried to see if she could find some rabbits. Suddenly, she saw one. She took the bow from her shoulder, put the arrow in place and let go. The arrow missed the bunny and ended on a tree trunk. “What a bad shot that was,”she thought. She tried over and over again when she saw the rabbit again and again, but it was no use, she just couldn’t hit it. “Last time,” she said out loud. And, this time she missed again.
Not wanting to be a quitter, Goldilocks decided to go fishing the next day. “Fishing should be easier than climbing trees and hunting,” she said out loud. “And, it should be a lot more fun!” So, Goldilocks went to the shed and took out her brother’s fishing pole and tackle. “I’ve seen my brother do this a million times, how hard could it be,” as she placed a worm on the hook she had dug up that morning. She threw the fishing line into the lake and sat. She sat and sat and sat. “This is boring,” she said to no one in particular.  Suddenly, a fish jumped out of the water. Then, it jumped again! So excited was she to see a fish that Goldilocks did what only came natural...she chased the fish down the lake! A good while later, Goldilocks was out of breath and could not see the fish anywhere. “Where did it go?” she asked out loud. Bummed that she lost the fish and had nothing to bring back home to her mother to show for her tiredness, she decided to rest by the lake.
Then, she saw something pink with white polka dots blowing in and out of her sight. “Whatever could that be,” she thought out loud.
