He has been ever since you guys broke up. Actually that’s putting it way too politely. He broke up with you. That’s right. He broke up with you because he’d been spending too much time at work – voluntarily. Working at a music production label was not something you had thought that one would want to do overtime. But Yoongi was different. He loved his job as an associate producer for one of the hip-hop duo that the company managed. Which meant that his job was a very important one and included too many responsibilities for you to count or remember. You just had met him because one of your friends – Sunmi to be exact – had set you up on a blind date with a co-worker of her own – Kim Seokjin. He was handsome, polite, held a higher position than Yoongi and actually was his boss for some time before he had been promoted once again but this time – as a partner of the company.

Seokjin came from an affluent family and possessed the funds to be able to have a partnership with a music production company at such a young age. That was partially why Sunmi had begged for you to go out on a date with him. You had just graduated and were working as a waitress while you scoured the web for jobs as a speech pathologist. So one day you decided, why not? If nothing else, the 29 year old could be your sugar daddy that you desperately needed right now. Judge all you want.

SETTING IN DANCE OF THIEVES

Okay so I’ll apologize for the randomness of this post. It’s about a lesser known book, and this blog has very rare posts not related to tv or kpop. But I read this book and I wrote a review, and I realized I have more to say that’s too niche even for the review, so here we are.

Quick background, dance of thieves is a book about a traumatized soldier and a king falling in love, but finding themselves constantly lying and betraying each other as their loyalties clash. I enjoyed the book, but I don’t think it brings anything new to YA romance or fantasy.

The exception to that is how the author uses setting in this book. Fantasy novels use their settings as its own character, with details and aspects to it that can take the entire book to understand. This book uses setting to develop its characters very well, but I wouldn’t describe it as fantasy heavy. Honestly I think the fantasy aspects could have been removed without changing most of the story. But this author does understand setting.

I see setting a bit like costumes in movies. People will notice if it’s unique, but when dine best the costumes will make the story richer without being in your face. This is as simple as best friends wearing complementary outfits to how rich vs poor characters dress. It more deeply builds character and plot.

Setting is like that in books, and this book is a great example. Here is where the spoilers start, a message to the 2-5 people who end up getting this far 😂. Kazi is the female protagonist, and she is deeply afraid of open spaces because of her trauma. Her mother was taken from her when she was a child, and Kazi was only able to stay safe by hiding in the shadows by the bed. After that she becomes a thief, and the shadows are one of the tools she uses to survive. When the other main character and love interest Jase finds out the truth of her past, it helps him to understand her by remembering how afraid she is under the open night sky and how easily she escapes into crowds in the city.

In Jace’s case, he is defined by his deep ties to his kingdom and his family. He is a young king of a small kingdom, and as the new leader he is forced to make difficult decisions. He always thinks about his family and his people before taking action, and he makes mistakes due to these things as well. In terms of setting, he is comfortable no matter where he is in his kingdom. At the beginning he is kidnapped and in his escape gets very far from Amy park or sign of civilization. However he is still able to tell where he is and what direction to go to get home. In his city, he knows the people and the history of everything. He is comfortable and confident anywhere, whether it’s the wilds or the market as long as it’s in his purview. He only leaves his kingdom as a prisoner, he is that tied to his land.

And then there’s how setting plays a role with Kazi and Jase’s relationship. While in the wilderness, neither of them think about their attachments. They are free even though they are literally shackled, and that is a big part of how they are able to fall in love. In either Kazi’s home or Jase’s home, they fall into their roles, which naturally separate them. Kazi likes Jase’s room because it is like a cocoon to her, and it is the only place she lets herself relax in his kingdom. Both of them bond with Jase taking Kazi all over his city, and she falls deeper for him as she understands his land. He gifts her people with better land and helps them thrive, because he protects his people. This also helps Kazi tie herself to him.

Where they are played a role in their relationship and defined them as people. This is something fantasy writers understand, and Mary Pearson clearly has mastered this aspect of the genre. Perhaps in the next book we will have a little bit more of the rest of it.

If The Types Came with an Instruction Manual: INFP Edition

Congratulations! You are now the proud owner/friend of an INFP! Here are a few things to take note of with your new best friend! Oh, you didn’t know INFP was now your best friend? Well now you do, because if you have one, it’s going to stay by your side for pretty much ever.

1. Your INFP comes with the innate ability to scope out good and bad! This particular model is very good at determining whether or not a person is being truthful and genuine or totally fake! You just acquired a lie detector as well. Your INFP will be able to break a person down in about 5 minutes flat !On top of that, they will warn you as well like the little Golden retrievers they are! 2. Your INFP is an INTROVERT! *CAUTION: If INFP loves you, INFP will try to force itself to go to gatherings so as to make you happy. Then you will not see INFP for a week or more. Be careful with INFPs willingness to participate as likely they do it for you.

3. INFP cares Deeply!! Your INFP comes standard with the ability of caring too much and too deeply. Usually this trait makes them resent themselves more than anything, but when they find that person who appreciates them for it, they become very happy and stick to you like glue. Please be sure to listen to INFP when they speak and try your best to understand them, because 99.9999% guaranteed, your INFP listens to you and remembers most everything you like and dislike. 4. In plain terms, your Golden Retriever has now switched to full on Rottweiler guard dog mode. If you want this action not to be completed on your behalf, you must tell INFP before it annihilates the person that has wronged you. They have a very hurtful almost eerie way of completing this action and It is not pretty. Distract INFP with something shiny or its favorite thing to spare the person.

8. Your INFP in the embodiment of the word contradiction. (See 6 &7) Your INFP can be decisive and indecisive on the same day at basically the same time. One moment your INFP will be meek and mild like a lamb about one thing, and as vicious as a bear protecting it’s young about another. This is normal and in time will become less and less surprising.

Pro Tip: Don’t try to change this quality. It actually adds to INFPs quirkiness and overall personality. Plus their feelings WILL get hurt

9. Your INFP is very strong and can be very stubborn, but will cave if they love a person. Treat your INFP with care as their love for you will make them give in to doing most of what you want to make you happy. Consult with your INFP to be sure what you re doing/planning makes them happy too. More often than not it will, but they will appreciate the consideration and only love you more. 10. Your INFP needs to talk to you! Your INFP has a habit of keeping everything in. In their mind, the less they trouble you with their problems, somehow to them makes it better for everyone else. If left unchecked, INFP will slowly erode and self destruct and feel unlved and misunderstood. You must ask them how they are doing and spend one on one time with them often. It would be simple if asking how your INFP was was a simple as asking “how are you?” But it is NOT. You must sometimes be a little forceful. Show that you care.
