Episode Campaigns: The Observatory
The stars and constellations require puzzles to be revealed from the telescopes. Parts of the rooms, objects float, like a globe. Locked lower chambers, paintings with watching eyes. Find glass cases with cursed weapons (don’t take). Notes scattered around (like the slender man notes but less hectic). There are whispers and noises, flashes of strange shadows ducking behind corners.
You are beginning to suspect the Observatory is not as abandoned as you thought.
Name of the Observatory: Pandora’s Ball.
Used to be a temple consecrated to the “pagan" angelic/greek/fey pantheon, but the current Star god priests came, subjugated the entities and sealed off the temple to starve out the inhabitants, then came in and murdered the shrine watchers, had a bunch of antagonistic spirits sealed away in the basement along with angry spirits of the murdered, built foundations on top of it as an Observatory as a monument to the Constellation Gods.
__
“The floors were red when we arrived. They told us there was a rat problem they took care off, but rats do not leave molars behind.” - an excerpt from a journal entry at the founding of the Observatory.
(Found in an empty study. Dagger of Holy War Vengeance in Globe)
“They’ve locked us in, like rats.” - incredibly old manuscript scroll written by a monk in the days of the Anemoth Temple.
(Found inside scroll case on floor of the library when you enter.)
A Journal entry titled, “Andronicus, 37th of Niel.” “We have begun expansion on the building today! Joyous news, the entire third corridor, which has been empty as long as I can remember, is being knocked down so that we can add more rooms for study. Accorder Jaleb has brought in 12 new page boys to study under our tutelage and become Astronomers of Celestial. A good day."
A journal entry titled, “Andronicus, 3rd of Helsbent.” “Preparations for the expansion have been put on hold - something of a rat infestation. Unfortunate, but understandable. Will be cleared in due time. Someone keeps taking one of the telescopes from the stock room without returning it. We find it under one of the pedestals later. And only the iron one, which is an older model NOT meant to be used for fun ventures. Will have to talk about this to the pages and tell them to take their pranks elsewhere.”
A journal entry titled, “Andronicus, 15th of Helsbent.” “We have a mysterious visitor in the library at odd hours. A brother would not fear pursuit, so it must be one of the boys, because they run whenever I enter, and they’re supposed to be in bed. Someone also moved the statue Father Mell made last year. Or perhaps turned it? It’s head is pointing the opposite direction. Children have too much time on their hands.”
A journal entry titled, “Andronicus, 30th of Helsbent.” “One of the boys tripped on his way to class today and hit his head on a statue. The situation is dire. Medical Jel is keeping close watch. There was also a case of food poisoning in the Great Hall - someone found a rancid rat in the soup. Cook is alarmed - I believe one of the pages possibly thought it was funny. Gone too far.”
A Journal entry titled, “Andronicus, 34th of Helsbent.” “Medical Jel fell down the stairs died in a horrific accident. The boy who tripped died in the middle of the night - from what? Jel can no longer tell us. The stock of Rootsbane has gone bad, the incense can no longer be lit. Reports that there are dead rats hanging from the ceilings of the bathrooms. I fear one of the boys might not be so innocent in simple pranks as I thought.”
A journal entry titled, “Andronicus, 1st of Mol.” "Something here is wrong. Not the boys. There are whispers in the gutters and walls when you walk. Many accidents have occurred. Went to make a summons for an exorcist, but all of the birds in the airy were dead. Trying to remember how this all started. Suspect angry spirits, disturbed. When we knocked down the wall?”
A journal entry titled, “Andronicus, 4th of Mol.” “Heard giggling in the library, grew quiet when I neared. Too afraid to go near. I fell today, but only broke one of my fingers on my non dominant hand. Spirits and fey perhaps? All iron is missing and water has been sickening for weeks. Must warn Jaleb before it is too late.”
A journal entry titled, “Andronicus, 5th of Mol.” “Jaleb is dead - pinned to the wall with the missing iron knives. The great doors are sealed - when we attempted to get through, magic blocked us. We’re trapped. Retreated with survivors to West Wing, placed a line of salt. Informed boys not to break. My study is here, I must have something about Observatory’s history that can explain why we are being murdered one by one.”
A journal entry titled, “Andronicus, 7th of Mol.” “We are all starving. The wall was sealed with magic, we broke the barrier. Named Pandora for a reason. Will we die like this?”
A journal entry titled, “Andronicus, 7th of Mol.” “Rats broke the salt barrier. Only matter of time.”
A locked study reveals lots of drawings of monstrous creatures, horrific beings, disfigured angels, and the last journal entry: “They are here”. No author.
Find busted marble door leading below, at the bottom is Odyssins. Claims vengeance against the mortals that lived there. If anyone in part is part of Constellation religion, must battle. Odyssins won’t want to let you go - fey pact states those who stay in the territory of the fey for a day belong to the fey. Must battle. Rats involved. Those with fey blessing don’t take damage from rats and attacks against by Odyssins have disadvantage.

Prophecy Boards
If the birds do not fly, beware the wilted flower. Else a duel must happen at the coming of music, and bloodied blade falls on either side.
(A frail boy keeps a birdhouse, tends to the birds. Some people think the birds should be freed, boy says they’re his only company, they wouldn’t know how to survive in the outside world, anyways. The town is having a celebration because they believe a cure was found to heal him. An unfriendly neighbor says that the cure was gotten from an evil witch who plays in life forces, claims that the family should be arrested/shouldn’t use the cure. Older brother furious, the neighbor used to be his best friend, but his little sister died from the same sickness. At the festival, the rival (Osiris) will show up, and Ren (older brother) will challenge him to a duel for his slander.
If you let the birds free, the boy will be overjoyed - not that you know - and see he, too, can adapt to the new world. If he’s happy, he cries out at the window, and it distracts his older brother, who takes a blow to the chest.
If you don’t free the birds, Osiris takes a fatal blow, and with his dying breath apologizes to Ren, but says they both knew this would happen. The next day, the boy is cured, but he hangs himself. All the birds in the cages are dead.
(if the sister took the cure, it would have killed Ren, but she wouldn’t, so she died.)
__
The proud king must not criticize the arrogant woman in a tomb.
(A relative will hear and not give the kingdom support, the army will lose)
The poor boy must decide or they will never act.
(An even vote in the council, the serving boy gets the final choice, council members can only be chosen if they’ve been there for 7 years and know the Code, which was lost. Boy knows it all.)
A secret will occur if the foolish maiden nears the fountain.
(She gets murdered last in a line of murders that occur every 50 years, father begs you to keep her home, she wants to go meet her love, her blood will reveal the secret door under the fountain, the angry spirit that posses lovers and murders women. Otherwise her boyfriend dies and they never find the murderer.)
The saffron butcher must drop the chalice on either solstice for the sake of humility.
(The butcher must let go of his spite and pig-headedness, destroy the chalice of his dead wife, it is cursed, else he and their children all die, because the wife is a ghost, lonely.)
An enemy must escape when the days grow short else the innocent will suffer.
(If you don’t let him free, then the bandit group will track him down and kill the guards and knock you out. Lots of people will die, including ruler. If you let him free, he remembers you, when you get captured by bandit group later, he arranges for you to escape, otherwise you have to escape on your own.)
She shall not heave at harvest time.
(Give her Ruesbitter, it’ll calm her stomach.)
Not they shall gobble.
(Gobble gobble gobble gobble)
The oracle must be silent for peace to sing.
(Oracle assassination in place, Orcale will tell people that murderers are coming. It’s two sons of the Innkeep, but the people will panic and think the visiting tribe is to blame and massacre them. Only way to prevent is to let Oracle be murdered.)
A discovery shall not happen if justice is delivered.
(A morally ambiguous magic scientist experimented on prisoners, horribly mutated them. You can put forward forged documents to free her or let her hang. The king arranged for her to do it to find a cure for the plague. The king also arranged for the secret person - rogue contact - to deliver the forgeries. If you don’t, someone will arrive the day after the execution and tell you to leave, the plague had an outbreak and there are undead everywhere, they’re going to be closing the gates and setting fire to the city.)
