So.... Totally did not follow through with my update. Today is 03.25.16 and I said that I would post an update on 03.06.16. That’s 19 days.... It’s been almost 3 weeks!
Anyways, better late than never!
So, I just recently started reading a couple books.
Damn Good Advice by George Lois Turning Pro by Steven Pressfeld
These are some AMAZING books!
First off, Damn Good Advice is exactly as it reads, damn good advice for people in the creative fields. Now, I don’t exactly consider my current field to be creative, but I am moving towards that and this is helping me solidify my decision to become a freelancer.
Turning Pro is a definite game changer for me. This book is simply amazing. It has been helping me identify some things in my life that I know are problems, but make a point to.....ignore them. Or redirect my attention from them. This book challenges you to face your truth and come out a pro. 10/10 recommend.
I know this has nothing to do with studying and computer science or programming, but it is something I need right now. It is motivating me closer to becoming the best artist/programmer/person that I know I am.
I will get back to my studies though. I am still working as a jsd, I am still struggling finding a new job, I am still challenging myself to learn, but now something has changed. I flipped a switch. Maybe not all the way pro, but getting there. I’ve changed my habits. I’ve changed my mindset. I’ve changed and now I’m ready.

Game Plan
02.29.16 - 03.06.16
Since I am currently working as a junior software developer, I need to learn and develop my technical skills that will help me be more effective at work. This week, I will focus on research and finding resources to learn. So far, I joined udemy.com and it seems like a cool place to start. The site offers many classes/videos for free and that is exactly what I need right now.
I am also going to include some research for my own business development. I have a couple of websites that I need to work on and so I will be working on that as well. I really hope I’m not biting off more than I can chew.
Topics to look up: (work-related)
Entity Framework
MVC Framework
Web API
GitHub (learn how to use it effectively)
Languages
HTML5, CSS3, AngularJS, C#
More topics: (personal)
Web Development
CMS’s (probably WordPress)
Using GoDaddy
Deliverables:
List of resources
List of good reads
Wire frame for TMS (wtf is a wireframe? I heard that is a good place to start...we shall see)

First Post!
So, a quick introduction to who I am and what I want to accomplish with this blog.
My name is Axl Jon Dela Cruz and as you can see from the description, I am planning to learn more about programming and what it is to be a developer out there in the world. My main goal is to learn as much as I can about how to code, design, and (basically) MAKE THINGS with code in order to be able to start my own business.
I graduated from La Sierra University in Riverside with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Computer Science (CLASS OF 2015!) and I am currently working as a Junior Software Developer and using the opportunity to develop my skills.
Hopefully, I can make something of myself.
