Diet During Pregnancy
Diet and lifestyle plays a major role during pregnancy from maternal to fetal health. It is very crucial to take care of diet during pregnancy. In one of the Ayurveda classical text book ‘Charaka Samhita’ it is mentioned that ‘The life of living thing is food; the entire world seeks food, complexion clarity, good voice long life, understanding, happiness, satisfaction, growth intelligence etc. are all because of food.”
‘Kashyapa Samhita’ elaborates on pregnancy care. During pregnancy the mother’s nutrition bears a great impact on the foetus’s growth and its future. Ayurveda lays great emphasis on ensuring holistic nutrition. A combination of Ahara (diet), Vihara (regimen), Vichara (emotions/thoughts) and Aushadha (medications) have been given great significance in Ayurveda in antenatal care called as Garbhini Paricharya.
Recommendations for pregnancy
In the 1st trimester, pregnant women have to manage between morning sickness, food aversion, fatigue and discomfort and eating healthy food can become a challenge. Most of the pregnant women finds no desire to eat food. Body is experiencing surge in hormone which can lead to nausea and it can also trigger digestive discomfort including constipation and reflux. Food rich in calcium, Vitamin C and nutrients and important in first trimester. Ayurveda recommends use of good quality ghee and milk for fulfilling the requirement of protein and fat to support. Lot of liquid food is advised to avoid dehydration in case the pregnant lady is unable to eat well. It’s good to avoid spicy food, oily deep fried food, Processed food as it can increase digestive issues.
In the 2nd, trimester, the complaints ease out and this phase of pregnancy has less discomforts compared to the first trimester. However it is very important to eat right in a manner that ensures that both mother and fetus receive adequate nutrition. Eating a normal home cooked meal is always the preference. Iron is required for adequate supply of oxygen. Iron deficiency can cause anemia and may lead to premature birth. Calcium and Vit D are essential for development of fetal bone and teeth. Do note that the fetal bone development takes place during the second trimester. Magnesium rich food such as Almonds, banana, spinach are recommended to help better nerve and muscle functions and maintain normal blood pressure in the pregnant woman.
Ayurveda recommends Butter and Ghee helps in building up the muscle tissue. Butter is sweet in taste and very cold (cooling) in potency. It has the property of preventing bleeding during pregnancy. Butter is said to improve strength, digestion and complexion. These recommendations should be followed under a physician’s advise.
The 3rd Trimester is a different experience with emotional and physical challenges owing to increase in changes in fetus and maternal body. Hunger pangs might increase and many times women complain of waking at night or early morning due to hunger. Women also experience constipation in late pregnancy due to pressure of gravid uterus over the bowels. The fetal demands start increasing and nature starts helping the mother get ready to deliver.
Therefore food has to be in accordance to the condition. Fiber rich food, diet high in fruits, vegetables and low-fat forms of protein. Slightly more folic acid is needed in the 3 rd trimester. So fortified cereals, green leafy vegetables, and wholegrains are good to have.
General Dont’s during pregnancy
Aerated drinks.
Food with taste enhancers such as MSG (Monosodium Glutamate).
Food with preservatives.
Sweets or desserts frequently.
Processed food such as white sugar, white flour etc.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder that affects the communication and behaviour of a child. Although Autism can be diagnosed at any age, it is described as a “developmental disorder” because symptoms generally appear in the first two years of life. In the autistic child, three core symptom interactions are observed Social interaction difficulties, Communication difficulties, and Behavioral problems.

Having understood the signs and symptoms of ASD children, we should know that they need attention at all levels. Therefore, one of the parents has to spare more time and contribute a lot to the child’s progress. The parent is the child’s shadow. Hence, their knowledge, patience, and perseverance are crucial for the child’s progress.
Parents are the experts in helping their children as they know it better than anyone and can provide any information that will be valuable in their child’s education and therapeutic approach. Parents are co-therapists and can provide all the information about the child’s daily activity, interests, and development, can actively participate in treatment and re-claim the rights of their child. The involvement of parents in the treatment program will play a decisive role in the treatment outcome. The systematic training of parents helps them regain their lost confidence and reduce their stress in meeting their parental role requirements.
Ayurvedic Treatment for Autism
Ayurveda offers three key therapeutic approaches for managing Autism Spectrum Disorders (Unamada):
Daiva Vyapasraya (Confidence-building treatment) involves rituals and practices that protect the mind and body from unseen environmental factors and evil forces.
Yukti Vyapasraya (Rational Medical Management): This includes the rational use of medications, therapies, dietary adjustments, and activities to maintain bodily equilibrium.
Satvavajaya (Mind and self-control techniques): This encompasses cognitive, behavioural, and spiritual training to nurture and sustain mental faculties.

Ayurveda Treatment for Gastric reflux
Ayurveda Treatment for Gastric Reflux or Acidity is a common concern in today’s fast-paced world, often arising from stress, irregular eating habits and unhealthy diets. Ayurveda offers a holistic solution addressing the root cause of the disease and treating it through personalized approaches
What exactly is Gastroesophageal Reflux disease (GERD)
Gastro means stomach. The oesophagus is your food pipe (a muscular tube through which food and liquid travel from the mouth to the stomach) Reflux means to flow back or return. Thus Gastroesophageal reflux refers to the backflow of stomach contents including Acid and partially digested food into the esophagus. This happens when the lower oesophagal Sphincter(LES) becomes weak allowing stomach content to return back into the oesophagus
Tumblr media
Understanding the symptoms of Gastroesophageal Reflux (GER) and when to seek help
Common symptoms include
Heartburn: you feel a burning sensation in the chest, especially when eating or lying down
Chest pain: it may mimic heart-related issues
Regurgitation: Backwash of food or sour liquid in the throat
Difficulty swallowing: it is called dysphagia. You feel like food is stuck in your throat or chest
Chronic cough or sore throat: if you have more acid reflux at night time you may experience persistent coughing or throat irritation
Nausea: feel like vomiting, especially after meals
Tumblr media
If you are experiencing some of these symptoms very regularly like more than twice a week or if they disrupt your daily life you need to see a doctor
How do I know I’m having heartburn or not a heart attack?
Don’t be panic! here are some key differences
Heartburn usually causes a burning sensation or pain in the chest. usually behind your breastbone, it can also rise up into the throat and you experience a sour or bitter taste in the mouth
A heart attack often feels like a squeezing or pressure in the centre or left side of your chest .it may radiate to the arm, neck, jaw, shoulder or back
If your heartburn medication doesn’t help and your chest pain is accompanied by these symptoms, call for medical attention right away
Ayurveda Treatment for Gastric Reflux
From an Ayurveda point of view GERD is seen as an imbalance in Pitta Dosha which can be compared to Amlapitta explained in Ayurveda texts. the Amla Guna (sour quality) can get aggravated due to factors like stress, spicy foods irregular eating habits etc. leading to symptoms of acid reflux and discomfort
Several reasons can weaken your digestive fire and cause an imbalance in pitta
Tumblr media
Including,
Consumption of Alcohol or smoking
Use of Antibiotics very frequently
Blood thinning medicines
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
Helicobacter pylori
Stress etc.
How Ayurveda can help you Overcome GERD
GERD treatment in Ayurveda should be done along the lines of Amlapitta therapy to get rid of morbid pitta through deep detoxification like Virechana, Dosha balance restoration using simple herbal medication and lifestyle modification and making dietary changes. also enhancing digestion, remembering lifestyle management remains critical and maintaining a proper balance of pitta in the stomach is crucial in reversing GERD
If you leave GERD untreated the aggravated pitta can also imbalance Vata and Kapha worsening further
If you have chronic acid reflux symptoms your ayurvedic physician may recommend Amana (therapeutic emesis) andVirechana (therapeutic purgation) to help eliminate excess Kapha and pitta Dosha followed by internal medications
Though Ayurveda offers effective home remedies and single herbs like Malaki Guduchi Yashtimadhu, etc., for managing Acid reflux, it is essential to consult a doctor to understand the root cause and receive appropriate treatment, as every patient is different, and the line of management also varies.

Ayruvedic Treatment for yoga theraphy mental health
Yoga Therapy Practice is a part of today’s living. It is believed to provide emotional equilibrium by gaining mastery over the mind. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being. Yoga considers the individual as a whole with the balance between mind & body for a healthy life.
In Yoga, there are many practices including sithilikarana vyayama (Loosening exercise), Breathing exercises, Asanas (Postures) Relaxation Techniques, Pranayamas (Breathing techniques) and Dhyana (Meditation).
The combination of all these practices is very good for all individuals. But if anyone is suffering from any particular health issue, they must be checked and learn it properly to ensure they do it correctly and continue it for the rest of their lives.
Yoga Chitta Vritti Nirodhah – Mastery over the mind or Cessation of thoughts.
Maharishi Patanjali explains that Yoga Therapy is a conscious process of gaining mastery over the mind. By controlling the mind, we attain our original state.
Mind Control Involves two aspects: the power to concentrate on a desired object or subject and the capacity to remain calm and quiet.
For better mental health, being quiet and remaining calm in most situations will be challenging for all human beings. Usually one or the other thought in the mind will keep running fine up to some extent, but if the thought is very disturbing and causes any kind of irritation/anger/sleeplessness etc to be addressed and managed.
Samatvam Yoga ucyate – Equanimity is Yoga
This is a quote from Bhagavad-Gita. It conveys the idea that yoga is the ability to remain centred and unmoved in the face of adversity. It is about attaining a state of inner calm and equanimity. True yoga Therapy is achieved when one remains unmoved by the dualities of life – success & failure, pleasure & pain, praise & criticism.
Ashtanga Yoga Therapy – 8 Limbs of yoga
Yama – Social discipline
By following the social discipline of non-violence, truthfulness, non-stealing, moderation and non –attachment provide ultimate strength and energy to body & mind.
Niyama – Self-discipline
Niyamas are the positive observances or duties, such as purity, contentment, self-examination and self-surrender to the divine.
Asanas – Physical postures that can help increase strength, flexibility and balance.
Pranayama – Breathing techniques that involve controlling the breath & its rhythm to elevate life energies.
Pratyahara – withdrawing the senses
Dharana – concentration
Dhyana – meditation
Samadhi – Enlightenment or bliss
By following steps 1 to 7, the individual can attain a step 8th called Samadhi. Each step should be followed by one after the other is more effective and easy.
Mental health depends on the Autonomic nervous system. The sympathetic and parasympathetic activity of the autonomic nervous system should be balanced well with our daily routine & regimen. Any of these two becomes dominant and causes either stress, anxiety or depression. Sympathetic activity is to stimulate the nervous system and be active and parasympathetic activity is to calm ourselves and be relaxed.
Yoga Therapy practices are highly effective at balancing both sympathetic and parasympathetic activity. Yoga practice must be a part of life and day-to-day regimen to maintain our overall health.
Note & Disclaimer – Every individual is different, one has to learn the practice with an expert initially and then practising it regularly will be more effective than just doing some physical poses or pranayama.

ayruvedic treatment for panchakarma
Panchakarma is a comprehensive detoxification and rejuvenation therapy in Ayurveda, involving five primary procedures designed for internal purification of the body through the nearest possible route. Such purification allows the biological s c 23e4 /
ystem to return to homeostasis and to rejuvenate rapidly and also facilitate the desired pharmaco-therapeutic effect of medicines administered thereafter
Pancha means five and karma means action or therapy, so panchakarma means five actions or therapies
Five purificatory therapies include Vamana karma (Emesis therapy) Virechana karma (Purgation therapy)
Basti karma (Enema therapy) Nasya karma (Errhine therapy) and rakta mokshana (Bloodletting therapy)
Types of  Panchakarma
Vamana karma (Emesis Therapy)

Pitta primarily resides in the stomach, small intestine, liver and gallbladder. When excess pitta accumulates it tends to result in gastritis, GERD, inflammation, Skin rashes and boils, excessive thirst and hunger, irritability, anger etc.
 Basti Karma (Enema therapy)

Ayurvedic Treatment for migraine
In case you think Migraine occurrence reduces during winter, you may be wrong
Migraine is a Primary headache disorder usually triggered by various causative factors, such as food habits, stress, sleep, and hormonal changes. Changes in temperature and weather conditions are also triggers, as the brain is sensitive to changes in the environment. Some might see exacerbations during summer and some during winter months.
According to Ayurveda, migraines can be triggered in winter as the Kapha dosha starts accumulating in the winter months. This causes an imbalance in the doshas and also causes an imbalance of Agni (digestive fire), which triggers a headache.
Remedial measures for migraine
What to indulge in???
Use of warm water—It is important to use warm water throughout the day and maintain a sufficient quantity. Warm water restores digestion and prevents headaches.
During winter, people tend to drink less water and therefore it’s important to watch the quantity to prevent headaches.
Use of ginger– Ginger can be used in the form of simple Ginger infusion ie.,  Tisane.
Take ½ inch ginger, crush, add to 100 ml water, boil for 2-3 minutes, strain and sip when warm.
Nasya– Use 2 drops of warm sesame oil or ghee into each nostril early in the morning on an empty stomach.
Exercise
Minimal exercise in the form of light walks
Loosening of neck and shoulders
Yoga practice – focus on Kapala Bhati and Nadi Shuddhi Pranayama
What to avoid??
Beverages– Coffee and Tea: In colder months, to beat the chillness, people might tend to drink hot beverages not knowing the fact that the caffeine is a cause of a headache trigger. The culprit is just not the caffeine but also the milk added to the tea or coffee
Spices– Spicy food and hot food are preferred during Winter months assuming that keep the body warm. But during this time people miss the fact that the chilly or masala can cause a headache.
Fried and oily food– Since they can increase Pitta and Kapha a headache trigger is possible. It is therefore advised not to use deep-fried food.
Canned and processed food – Since they disturb digestion, a headache is triggered. Preservatives and taste enhancers can further add on to increase in frequency and intensity of headaches
Understanding different ways of reducing headaches, can improve the quality of life for a person suffering from it. Though there are long-term curative therapies, it’s important to manage headaches based on the seasonal regimes as prescribed in Ayurveda

Ayurvedic Treatment for lower back pain
Online Consultations Lower back pain is something that many of us experience at some point in our lives, with up to 85% of adults dealing with it. Whether it’s a dull, nagging ache or a sharp, persistent pain, it can be incredibly disruptive. Most of the time, it stems from issues in the lower spine, tense muscles, or even nearby organs. While conventional treatments focus on managing symptoms, integrative approaches like Ayurveda, Yoga, and Acupuncture dive deeper, addressing both the physical discomfort and the emotional toll that pain can take on us.
What Causes Lower Back Pain?
Lower back pain can come from a variety of sources, such as:
Problems in the lumbar spine: Issues with the vertebrae or discs in the lower back.
Muscle strain: Overworked or inflamed muscles from poor posture, overexertion, or stress.
Nerve compression: Commonly caused by a herniated disc pressing on nearby nerves.
Internal organ issues: Pain referred from organs in the pelvic or abdominal region.
If your pain is severe, lingers despite rest, or comes with symptoms like leg pain, numbness, weakness, or unexplained weight loss, it’s important to see a doctor.
How Ayurveda Can Help
Ayurveda, with its holistic and time-tested remedies, offers natural solutions for treating lower back pain. Here are some therapies that can help:
Kati Basti: This involves applying warm, medicated oil directly to the lower back. The warmth and oil work together to ease stiffness, promote blood flow, and soothe pain.
Elakizhi: Medicated herbal leaves are used in a hot compress to relieve muscle tension and promote healing.
Panchakarma (Basti): This treatment uses a medicated enema to calm Vata dosha (one of the body’s energy types). Vata imbalance is often linked to back pain, and Basti helps restore balance, reduce inflammation, and prevent recurrence.
Acupuncture for Pain Relief
Acupuncture is another powerful way to manage back pain. By inserting fine needles into specific points on the body, acupuncture:
Stimulates the release of endorphins, the body’s natural pain relievers.
Improves circulation and reduces inflammation in the affected area.
Works hand-in-hand with Ayurveda to offer a well-rounded and effective pain management solution.
Yoga for Long-Term Relief
Yoga complements Ayurveda and Acupuncture, providing a way to manage pain on a daily basis. It helps by:
Stretching and strengthening the muscles: Yoga poses can help improve flexibility and ease tension in the back.
Breathing exercises and meditation: These practices calm the mind, reduce stress, and support your body’s natural healing process.
While yoga alone might not completely eliminate the underlying causes of lower back pain, it can significantly ease discomfort and help maintain a healthy, pain-free back over time.
A Holistic Approach for Lasting Relief
By combining Ayurveda, Yoga, and Acupuncture, you’re not just treating the symptoms—you’re addressing the root causes of lower back pain. These therapies work together to balance the body and mind, offering a more natural and comprehensive solution to pain relief. With this integrative approach, you can find not only physical relief but also a greater sense of well-being and balance in your life.
If you’re looking for a long-term, holistic way to manage your lower back pain, these therapies could be the answer.

Ayurvedic Treatment for Back Pain Relief
Kati Vasti is a specialised Ayurvedic therapy that focuses on relieving lower back pain and discomfort. This treatment is particularly effective for conditions such as lumbar spondylosis, sciatica, and chronic lower back pain. “Kati” refers to the lower back, and “Vasti” means a container or reservoir, symbolizing the retention of medicated oil on the affected area.
The Procedure of Kati Vasti
Kati Vasti involves the application of warm, medicated oil to the lower back, which is retained in a specially constructed reservoir made of dough. The therapy is typically performed as follows:
Preparation: The patient is asked to lie face down on a treatment table. A ring or dam made of black gram dough is placed on the lower back, forming a sealed reservoir.
Application of Oil: Warm, medicated oil is poured into the dough reservoir. The oil is chosen based on the patient’s dosha type and specific condition. Commonly used oils include Mahanarayan oil, Kottamchukkadi oil, and Sahacharadi oil.
Retention: The oil is retained in the dough reservoir for a specified period, usually between 20 to 40 minutes. During this time, the warmth and medicinal properties of the oil penetrate deep into the tissues, muscles, and bones.
Massage: After the oil is drained, the therapist may perform a gentle massage on the lower back to enhance the therapeutic effects.
Post-Treatment: The area is cleaned, and the patient is advised to rest. Follow-up sessions may be recommended depending on the severity of the condition.
Benefits of Kati Vasti
Pain Relief: Kati Vasti is highly effective in relieving pain in the lower back, especially in conditions like sciatica, disc herniation, and muscle spasms.

Ayurvedic Treatment for Joint Pain Relief
Most of the body aches and pains are traced to an imbalance in Vata dosha, which means the air element in the human body. Such an imbalance may present itself in the form of different kinds of pains in joints, like conditions such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, which presents with pain, stiffness, and swelling in the red-coloured small joints; Osteoarthritis, affecting knees and larger joints; Cervical Spondylitis, or pain in the neck radiating to arms; Lumbar Spondylitis, lower back pain with radiating leg pain; Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, or wrist joint pain; and Tennis Elbow, or the pain in the elbow joint.
The incidence of arthritis is on the rise in all age groups.
Arthritis has long been stereotyped as a condition prevailing over the elderly but is now very common among the younger generation. Unhealthy dietary intake, lack of proper rest and sleep, incorrect postures, high stress, and physical wear are coupled with overuse of computers and other gadgets. Ayurveda opines that all these reasons trigger off an imbalance of doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) in the body, which leads to conditions like arthritis.
Seasonal Variation and Impact on Vata Dosha and Osteoarthritis
According to Ayurveda, the doshas can get vitiated, or out of balance, due to a place (Desha) and time (Kaala). Hence, the physiologic aggravation of Vata dosha during the rainy season causes an increase in pain related to joints. Similarly, winter is the season where, with the entry of cold, there is an increase in Vata-based discomfort, so it becomes a mandate to reduce Vata-aggravating foods and practices during this season.
Gut Health and Arthritis: The Ayurvedic Perspective
This way, it is thus very close to gut health. Treatment for arthritis always focuses not only at joints but also on the gut and immune system. Health and disease depend on the system’s doshas that is the bio-physiological forces and constitution of a person (Prakriti). More so, in Ayurvedic therapeutics, mental health and Agni can be considered as some of the important factors facilitating a return to normalcy within the bodily systems.
Effective Ayurvedic Herbs to Relieve Joint Pain
Ayurvedic herbs are effective in pain relief and have the potential to pacify the Vata dosha so that it travels through the natural flow within the body channels and remains non-interfering. Some of the most effective Ayurvedic herbs to bring about relief from joint pain include:
Eranda (Ricinus Communis): The anti-inflammatory herb.
Shigru (Moringa oleifera): Acts as an anti-inflammatory and reduces swelling and stiffness.
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera): An effective herb that helps to strengthen the muscles and joints.
Ardhaka (Zingiber Officinale): Generally used to reduce pain and inflammation.
Ayurvedic Therapies for Balancing Vata Dosha and Its Joint Pain Relief
The Ayurveda system provides many therapies that can be used primarily to balance Vata dosha and relieve the pain related to joints. The available ones include:
Panchakarma: A series of bio-purificatory procedures that detoxify the body and improve joint health.
Abhyanga: The application of warm medicated oils to reduce stiffness and increase circulation.
Kati Basti and Janu Basti: Oil pooling therapies for the back and knees, respectively, that help relieve pain and inflammation.
Elakizhi: Fomentation with medicated leaves boluses to ease muscle and joint discomfort.
Podikizhi: Fomentation using medicated powders that enhance circulation and reduce swelling.
Application of Yoga Therapy and Acupuncture with Ayurveda
Highly beneficial, it can be managed in a combined approach through Ayurvedic treatment, yoga therapy, and Acupuncture. The detailed exercises provided by yoga therapy for arthritis improve flexibility, reduce stress, and slow down the process of degeneration. Concurrently, Acupuncture helps in enhancing ailing body energy and pain reduction. These practices in combination reduce inflammation and pain, increase joint mobility, and improve quality of life significantly.
Conclusion
Integrating Ayurveda with Yoga Therapy and Acupuncture centres around an overall approach to the management of arthritis and joint pain. The ancient ways of this treatment do not only rid an individual of pains and aches but ensure long-lasting health and overall well-being by targeting the root cause and thereby balancing the body’s doshas. Whether one is a victim of arthritis or is inclined to take care of the joints prospectively, these holistic methods provide an effective path to a pain-free life.
