here's a heartbreaking idea: i think Tenna might be repeating some of Kris' words/thoughts 💔 at first it seems like Tenna is just apologising for including pipes in the minigame...but what if this is actually him repeating what Kris has said in the past to Toriel and Asgore? we know that Kris has pulled pranks in the past including flushing bath bombs down the toilet, and if Tenna's dialogue is anything to go by, Kris was really shaken by Toriel and Asgore's divorce (as they were witness to much of the fights leading up to it). what if Kris feels responsible for the divorce? is it possible that Kris, in that way characteristic to children of divorce, thinks that if they just hadn't pulled that prank which messed up the pipes, Toriel and Asgore might never have fought and could still be together today? 😭💔

2009 comic run noir
Thinking about this little baby & height symbolism in the 2009 comics
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's so much visibly smaller than practically any other main character in the comics! It varies depending on perspective, but in a couple scenes he's entire heads shorter than some characters. Even after the bite, he's still smaller.
In most shots he's shown to be about the same height as his Aunt May. Which is ridiculous when you think about it- he's presumably still growing, based on the fact that he's underage, and still only reaches the height of an older woman who probably didn't get nowhere near the healthy amount of nutrients as a teen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But when I reread the comics, I realised he's constantly being loomed over by people who have more "power" than him. He's on equal footing with Aunt May, so they're the same height. When Urich is trying to relate to him, he kneels so they're at the same eye level. When they witness horrific things together, they're the "same" height. They both have no power in the situation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The only time Peter is shown taller than people is when he's acting young, confident or angry. It's the same with Aunt May- she's only "taller" when she's literally on a soapbox or yelling at Peter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That is, aside from when Peter is shown taller than people because they're dead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This brings me to my final point (or thought, I don't know):
While Peter Parker only looms over people when he's young, confident, angry, or they're dead,
Spider-Man is taller than basically everyone.
Tumblr media
This entire image showcases it pretty well.
The only time Peter had any power, consistently, is when he's Spider-Man.
Tumblr media
This is shown at one of the very last frames of the first comic run, where he, as Spider-Man, is above- taller than- the entire city.
(What's the point of this entire thing? Idk I just wanted to ramble about height symbolism in Spider-Noir)

“Zutara never would’ve worked because they’re just too similar!”
“Katara would get angry and shout…”
Tumblr media
Katara: “Zuko!”
Tumblr media
Katara: “Why did they throw you in here? Oh, wait, let me guess. It’s a trap. So that when Aang shows up to help me, you can finally have him in your little Fire Nation clutches!” Katara: “You’re a terrible person! You know that? Always following us! Hunting the Avatar! Trying to capture the world’s last hope for peace! But what do you care? You’re the Fire Lord’s son. Spreading war and violence and hatred is in your blood!”
“And Zuko would get angry and shout right back.”
Tumblr media
Zuko: ”You don’t know what you’re talking about!” Katara: “I don’t? How dare you! You have no idea what this war has put me through! Me personally! The Fire Nation took my mother away from me.”
“It would just turn into a shouting match where they hurl hurtful things at each other!”
Tumblr media
Zuko: ”I’m sorry. That’s something we have in common.”
Tumblr media
“Besides they’re both too stubborn to admit when they’re wrong!”
Tumblr media
Katara: “I’m sorry I yelled at you before.” Zuko: “It doesn’t matter.”
“It would jut be a lot of drama where they fight all the time!”
Tumblr media
Katara: “It’s just that for so long now, whenever I would imagine the face of the enemy, it was your face.” Zuko: “My face? I see.” Katara: “No, no, that’s-that’s not what I mean.” Zuko:  “It’s okay. I used to think this scar marked me. The mark of the banished prince, cursed to chase the Avatar forever. But lately, I’ve realized I’m free to determine my own destiny, even if I’ll never be free of my mark.”
“Not to mention that they only encourage the worst in one another!”
Tumblr media
Katara: “Maybe you could be free of it.” Zuko: “What?” Katara: “I have healing abilities.” Zuko: “It’s a scar, it can’t be healed.” Katara: “This is water from the Spirit Oasis at the North Pole. It has special properties, so I’ve been saving it for something important. I don’t know if it would work, but…”
“They’d only enable each other’s worst traits!”
Tumblr media
“They’d never make up! Only fight!”
Tumblr media
Anyhow.
What I’m getting at is, we get the model for how a Zutara fight would go, and it’s not “The Southern Raiders”.
Seriously though, “The Southern Raiders”  has some serious OoC moments, like, yeah, ofc the boy whose defining line is: “We’ve created an era of fear in the world. And if we don’t want the world to destroy itself, we need to replace it with an era of peace and kindness.” would totally dismiss Aang with “guru goody-goody”, that’s something that’d totally happen.
And if anyone tries to convince me that the woman who wrote “Zuko Alone” would willingly put it there, I’ll fight you.
Also, to the people who think that Zuko was “enabling Katara’s darkness” do you also think that Iroh was “enabling” Zuko? Bc that’s what was going on there, Zuko’s arc in s3 was about him emulating his fathers, and uuuughh i need to write that out but i’m lazyyy.
And, also, when you take the show’s most emphatic, compassionate characters and couple that with their shared experiences, you get two people who work out their problems pretty damn quick, regardless of temperament.

Cagney Carnation in “Blood in the Grass”
Note: Haven’t written prose in a long, long time, and I’m not particularly good at it, either, but I hope this was decent! Word Count: 1.5k Warnings: Delusional mindsets, derogatory narration towards reader (mirrors Cagney’s thoughts), dismemberment, gore, jealousy, murder, possessive behaviour, swearing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The night was quiet on the Inkwell Isles.
Among their diurnal inhabitants lost in the land of dreams, there remained one outlier, trapped in a state of restless consciousness: Cagney Carnation.
The sentient flower had been consistently losing sleep over the past few days, and this misery of fatigue could only be attributed to a certain, pesky gardener who’d become an ever-present thorn in his side. When not attending to their work, they often took time out of their day to pester him, looking for conversation or bringing him some worthless trinket or other.
Cagney didn’t know why they bothered, given how outwardly hostile he was towards them in the beginning, but he’d given up trying to understand the strange human. Rather, he chose to accept -rather begrudgingly- their constant presence in his life. If not for his stubborn pride, he would have even gone so far as to say there was something amusing about them, their pathetic attempts at winning his favour bringing an interesting change of pace to his mostly isolated, peaceful routine.
This was the root cause of his current issue.

Becoming the mask you wear, a Charlastor essay
I have read some of the season 2 leaks and I have…opinions. I believe a certain leaked season 2 episode strongly hints towards Alastor having feelings for Charlie and I’m going to explain it under the cut. Don’t read if you don’t want to be spoiled!
Tumblr media
Note: I'm still avoiding any spoilers on Vox or on Alastor's past so please don't mention them in the comments!
Episode 4 Season 2, that should be retitled “Getting rid of all the Alastor red herrings in Season 1”
A quick recap of Season 1 from Alastor’s point of view
Season 1 has seen Alastor starting to do good acts for evil reasons (becoming friends with Charlie to get a deal). Charlie has rewarded his good behaviour with kindness and that has tempted Alastor into his very first 100% good act: risking his life to fight against Adam. His first genuinely good act resulted in…failure and loss. He was forced to flee to survive, his mic was broken, and he lost his power. So what happens in one of the leaked episodes of season 2?
Tumblr media
Alastor and Lucifer: the ‘dad Alastor’ joke finally put to rest
Alastor and Lucifer have a discussion.
Two things that Lucifer says make Alastor VERY angry:
He reminds Alastor that Charlie has a girlfriend
He accuses him of abandoning Charlie and not protecting her
Alastor gets so angry that he leaves the hotel.
If Lucifer thought that Alastor was just a friend/father figure, a simple "You failed to protect her" would have been enough. But the fact that he adds the note about Vaggie suggests that he wants to discourage a possible romance. As for Alastor, his anger after Lucifer reminds him that Charlie has a girlfriend could indicate that he feels frustrated about not being able to be with her.
Basically, now that Charlie is not around, they both have dropped the “who is the best dad” charade and they are admitting what is the real conflict between them: Lucifer doesn’t want Alastor as a boyfriend for Charlie and he doesn’t want him as a protector for Charlie. Alastor is pissed because he cannot be a boyfriend and he has failed as a protector.
The real conflict between Al and Luci is due to the fact that he doesn’t want him as a son in law, not as a…second dad to a very adult, college graduate daughter?(Seriously?)
I noticed it on my first watch but 90% of the fandom missed it, why?
Tumblr media
Season 1 Episode 5 is a silent match between Alastor and Lucifer: Alastor wants to piss Lucifer off and the first thing that comes to his mind is to pretend to be her boyfriend without Charlie noticing (see pictures if you didn’t notice…) Lucifer squirming everytime Alastor touches Charlie is super hilarious.
Then when Charlie informs Lucifer that she has a girlfriend, Alastor quickly changes strategy to annoy him and starts singing about being a better dad. But someone that was ready to pose as her boyfriend 3 minutes ago is really not a plausible dad for Charlie :) . Even in the dad song Alastor can’t stop hugging Charlie inappropriately.
But back to Season 2!
We drop completely Alastor talking about “dying for his FRIENDS” or about “protecting the hotel”, the focus is on Charlie and Charlie alone. According to Lucifer he failed in protecting Charlie, not generically her friends.
Because everything was always only about Charlie even in season 1, but I won’t elaborate on this here because I want to stay on topic ;)
For me this essay can stop here and conclude that Alastor’s feelings for Charlie are canon, but wait, there’s more!
Charlie’s interview
Charlie has an interview and two important things happen:
Charlie confirms that she is bisexual (for all the viewers at home that didn’t know yet)
Charlie has a panic attack when Baxter starts reminding her of Sir Pentious, gets teased by the journalists and the crowd for it, and what does Vaggie do? She doesn’t help her and cringes in silence, covering her face as if pretending she doesn’t know her.
This behaviour by Vaggie is not new, she did the same in the pilot, being embarrassed by Charlie while her interview was failing. For people that think the showrunners have forgotten the pilot…they have not forgotten, they are just incorporating all the ideas very slowly in the main series :)
So in the same episode in which Alastor’s feelings become more obvious the viewer is reminded that Charlie is bi and that her current relationship has…issues.
Could this be…intentional?
Not intentional in the sense that Ch@ggie will ever break up in the future (no, the author has said they will have a sex scene, remember?). But the series probably wants the audience to start rooting for Charlastor, even if it’s an impossible romance.
Also notice that last time Charlie tried to impress a crowd (in cannibal town)it was a success because Alastor was helping Charlie. Now she fails again because no one is really helping her. (I want to make it clear that this is not character bashing of Vaggie on my part. It’s the show itself that is making those parallels, for who knows what reasons)
Alastor and Rosie
Alastor is super pissed that without his mic he is weakened, so he asks Rosie for help but she cannot fix it.
We learn that Rosie is Alastor’s master and she acts creepy toward him, calling him ‘handsome’ and ‘his pet’ .
Following his conversation with Lucifer, it becomes evident that Alastor’s objective in Season 2 is not only to regain his power but also to reclaim his role as Charlie’s protector.
We know that he hates being on a leash and observant viewers also know that he doesn’t like being touched by her (see pictures below), yet he’s willing to go into the lion’s den to fix his mic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rosie being Alastor’s master and not Lilith like everyone (me included) had assumed completely changes Alastor’s role in the story.
Alastor’s literary pattern: becoming the mask you wear
Tumblr media
Alastor haters basically think that Alastor’s role in the story is going to be like the frontman’s role in Squid game, season 2. They both joined the heroes for evil reasons and they both helped them to gain their trust. Haters believe that, like the Frontman, Alastor will backstab Charlie and use her trust for him against her. But Alastor and Frontman have very important differences.
Alastor’s goal is sympathetic: Frontman’s goal is to make the Squid Game succeed to keep the rich guests happy. Alastor is a black man that wants freedom from the chains of a white woman, you can’t get more sympathetic than that.
Alastor and Charlie’s goals are not in conflict: 456 wants the Squid games to end, Frontman wants them to succeed. Alastor's evil plan against Charlie is probably to force Charlie to fight against Rosie. Since Rosie is not someone connected to Charlie (like Lilith),their goals (running the hotel vs getting his freedom back) can both become reality. That can explain why a character like Alastor could plot something against Charlie while simultaneously having feelings for her.
Alastor believes he is justified in seeking his freedom. Since Rosie holds no personal significance to Charlie, he does not view his actions as harmful to her, and he thinks that the only way to get help is to force the princess with a deal, because he has never had anyone on his side willingly,he always had to survive alone and force people to have any help. Will his outlook change in S2? Something tells me it will :)
I believe Alastor’s character arc in the whole show is going to be Becoming the mask
A villain that joins the heroes and starts doing good acts for evil reasons, until the difference between what is fake and what is real starts to blur and he becomes more and more good as time passes. Note that the tv tropes page I linked mentions that “They might even fall in love with another person whom they're explicitly supposed to be taking advantage of.”  :)  :) :)
Because of those literary rules, it is unreasonable to completely discount every good act Alastor did in season 1 because his motivations are unclear. Doing something good for evil reasons is still doing good, and doing good for months (not a couple of days like Frontman…) changes you overtime. Charlie’s positive feedback is also making the act of doing good rewarding in itself and that encourages Alastor to become the hotel’s protector for real and risk his life against Adam.
But villains can’t become good so easily. Alastor suffering failure and loss because of his first truly selfless act is a classic step in a villain redemption arc. His role as hotel protector is also challenged by Lucifer who wants to take his place. Alastor will probably be tempted into starting to do evil again, but his friendship with Charlie has changed him for good and he won’t be able to follow through.
Alastor can fall in love despite being ace
In a recent episode of Helluva Boss, Masquerade, we see Mammon, a character that identifies as ace, flirting with Leviathan,a pretty demoness, and asking her for a date. That is 100% the author trying to tell us that ace people date in the hellaverse.
Tumblr media
Rosie being Alastor’s master reframes her statement about any Alastor romance being impossible. She is not a well meaning friend who knows Alastor like the back of her pockets, she is his ENEMY, he is secretive with her and clearly touch-repulsed by her.
Rosie probably doesn’t know that he’s not aro and that he’s not as touch repulsed as he seems to be (at least not with Charlie! She can hug him with no problem.)
Tumblr media
In season 1 Alastor being ace is used as a jab only against Charlie/Alastor, while with other people Alastor is explicitly shown to reject them or avoid being touched by them
He has openly rejected Angel twice (in the pilot and in ep1s1)
He doesn’t like when Rosie touches him
He cleans his hand after greeting Lucifer
He hugs Mimzy but when SHE tries to touch him he swats away her finger
He rejects people left and right without mercy and without care, yet with Charlie (and with Charlie only) we rely on second hand information from an unreliable source (Rosie) instead of the script having simply Alastor say “sorry Rosie, she’s just a friend”? Mmmmm…sounds like a red herring to me!
Why did the show choose to trick the viewers like that?Probably the show runners wanted to establish Alastor as a character in his own right before focusing on romance.
But I think this was a really bad choice on their part because some viewers will resent being tricked like that. Romance should never be a mystery to solve.
Conclusion
This is only episode 4 guys! In season 1 Charlie and Alastor barely interacted in the first 4 episodes and we still got two episodes with good Charlastor content (ep 5 and 7). Now that the good content is starting to flow even in the first episodes I wonder what on earth could happen in the later episodes.
As for Charlie…who knows? Based on the available information, it seems unlikely that Charlie will break up with Vaggie, despite Vaggie’s questionable behavior in the leaks. But maybe the couple will solve their problems for real this season?Only time will tell.
Personally I think Charlie/Alastor will be a story of an unrequited romance, like Phantom/Christine from Phantom of the Opera.(PotO is Vivziepop’s favourite musical,COINCIDENCE?)
Like Phantom, Alastor is an older villain (though not truly older, as Charlie is over 200 years old) who poses as a father figure while secretly harboring romantic feelings for the girl. But the girl loves someone else. What will happen?
A big thanks to
