Honestly, if they were really smart, what Hasbro would do is start doing actual Goat and/or Edison-focused reprints. Speed Duels gets like one new product every geological era and no event support, so it's clearly not about supporting an actual format.

Sorry I haven't been around much! Early December's a rough time for me and then holidays happened, and my attempts to try to stay around despite that didn't really pan out. So, figured it'd be better to just wait until things steadied out.
But I'm basically back now. Sup!

Taking advantage of your natural strengths is a valid reason to prefer certain sports over others. Too often, certain kinds of people make arguments that boil down to "you only like that thing because you're good at it". To which I always want to respond "why would I spend the time to get good at something I didn't enjoy?"
Of course, they never want an actual answer, just to make excuses for why they lost.
As for why I prefer Duel Monsters over other similar games, I will admit that there is an aspect of nostalgia, and for the uninitiated, my other reasons could be summarized as 'it has a je ne sais quoi'. I've not always been fond of every form the meta of the game has taken, but it's the game I've been playing for as long as I've known what a collectable card game is.
Perhaps, in another life, I would've had my first experiences with Magic the Gathering, and I would be a very different person right now. Or perhaps not.
I'm also an épée person, though my reasoning is less about the others being worse, and more about me having the upper body strength to whip an épée around faster than most people ever expect, which gives me a distinct advantage in that regard.
I thought it was actively marketed to children, but if it's more akin to like, magic the gathering was it? Then that does clarify why so many young adults I know are fascinated with it. Though I think what you said could apply to most card games, what makes Duel Monsters better than the others?

Yes, Industrial Illusions has been extremely negligent of their limited formats and draft pack support.
You can just say that instead of throwing out farcical statements.
Maybe one day if Kaiba Corp acquires Industrial Illusions, they'll remedy the situation.
UGGFHGHHHHHHHH I can't believe I'm getting involved in this. or that I'm going to say this so LISTEN cuz I'm not EVER gonna admit it twice.
if you're going to use a game as any ACTUAL example of SKILL and INTELLECT, then both sides should be able to start out with transparently equal resources and footing from the very beginning, with nothing at all left to chance or luck or especially financial benefit. if you can't win from a level playing field, then are you REALLY winning ???? ?? ?

Yes. Everyone should learn Duel Monsters.
It's a much better way to solve disagreements than base violent instinct.
i joke about everything! but i don’t know enough about duel monsters to really be able to joke properly about it.
do i need to fix that situation? :D

Épée, I don't like how flimsy a foil feels or how chaotic swinging around a saber can be.
It is a card game, yes, and children can be taught how play it, yes, but calling it a children's card game is terribly reductive.
I rate it over other possibilities because of the preparation for risk mitigation required before sitting down to play, and yet it forgoes uncontrolled randomness during the course of the game itself in favor of frontloading that randomness and demanding that the duelist adjust to the situation he has created for himself.
To be glib, you can blame the dice for bad luck in a casino, or the cards for bad luck in poker, but if you blame your deck for bad luck in Duel Monsters, you are only blaming your past self.
Ah, a fellow fencer. What do you use? Foil, épée, or sabre?
Isn't Duel Monsters that children's card game people play competitively? How do you rank that over fencing or chess in terms of strategy? But I'll be honest I've never even heard of backgammon.

Oh.
That was a joke. Haha.
I do like Duel Monsters, though. I wouldn't joke about that.

also i thought flossing went out of style when fortnite stole it. or did that make more popular?

Yes, you do. And I live in Domino City, too. Maybe that's why Tumblr recommended you follow me?
What card store do you go to for cards, then? Maybe we'll meet there some time and we can play?
yup...!! cuz that's what friends do :p
how did you..... oh!! i guess i have that on my profile don't i. huh. you got it! i don't really go anywhere to play though...? i don't really care for using duel arenas if that's what you mean, my friends and i usually just play tabletop wherever we are.

Dueling, with a GUN? Absolutely not, I'm not my father.
I am a very competent fencer, but I would rather challenge them to a contest that will show me their strategic acumen, and their ability to keep a level head under pressure. In descending order of preference, Duel Monsters, go, shogi, chess, Capsule Monsters, or, if I absolutely must, backgammon.
You've got a point worth taking into consideration, but when you say you challenged people to duels, do you mean like.. pistols at dawn type duels?
