SPIKE: I dreamed of killing you. I think they were dreams. So weak. And you make me weak. Thinking of you...holding myself, and spilling useless buckets of salt over your...ending.
Because I’ll never be done analyzing this apparently. He can't stop seeing it in his mind, feeling it in his soul. Buffy makes him feel, not just love, but makes him feel weak and powerless because when she died it was because he couldn’t do his job. He couldn’t be the super powerful big bad who accomplished everything he set his mind to. He was so worried about Buffy and Dawn that he couldn't focus on his target and be ruthless and efficient and do it right. He couldn’t be strong enough or quick enough or smart enough to kill the Doc and protect Dawn before she began to bleed. He wasn’t enough and the girl he loved sacrificed herself because of his failure. All he could do was watch, helpless and impotent and grief stricken, crying buckets at the sight of her dead body. And he can’t even bring himself to say it. He'll say that he killed Buffy, but he can’t even say that Buffy….died. It’s her “ending”. The girl who he loved so much he couldn’t recover from it and was left a shell of himself at her loss.

please be kind in letting me know if I missed something obvious in the plot, but what on earth was that whole Doctor scheme in “as you were”? it seemed like it was pulled out of thin air as an excuse to have Riley be morally superior and look down on Buffy and her choices as well as blowing up Spike’s home. you know the drill. Riley is perfect and we’re gonna kick Buffy and Spike around for funsies.
we're introduced to this mysterious Doctor character as a black market figure moving dangerous demon eggs - who must be stopped! towards the end of the episode we get Riley storming in on Buffy and Spike, accusing Spike of being the Doctor. which comes out of completely nowhere and honestly is never brought up again and it makes zero sense.
all we’ve known about Spike’s underworld dealings thus far is that he plays kitten poker, drinks blood and booze at the bar, was in debt to a loan shark, and that demons don’t necessarily like him due to his own patrols. his only big schemes we’ve seen are slayer killing plots and fixing Drusilla back to health which doesn’t track with an international smuggling ring.
when the eggs are found below his crypt, he continues to deny being the Doctor and says he was holding them for a friend. which I could actually believe (maybe he’s doing it to work off another debt and he does know a lot of the underground crowd) but neither Buffy or Riley listen to him and treat it as fact that he was the Doctor. and then the episode leaves it at that, moves on, and it’s never mentioned again? a whole ass secret scheming identity? if he were really this huge mover and shaker you think we’d get any reference to it earlier or after this episode. (it’s never even brought up if Spike gets any fallout over the loss of the eggs) it just falls so flat and weakens the episode to me.

So, things on the archive have been a bit dicey the past month as the Mods have been investigating the ongoing DDoS attack and various options available to us to mitigate both the current attack and future attacks. I’ll lead with the big thing.
Planned Archive Downtime
The archive will be down for a bit as we configure the new security settings on the back end. The downtime could be as little as a few minutes or up to 72 hours and we anticipate some people will get access sooner than others. We don’t like it, but it’s for the best, and will hopefully allow us to resume full accessibility to all members.
When Is the Site Going Offline?
Tuesday evening, EDT. While you have a couple of days, you should start preparing immediately.
Prepare? What Do You Mean By That?
Mostly, just be forewarned that the downtime is coming. Don’t panic if you can’t access the site or receive an error message.
You might want to take the time to download any ePubs for fics you are reading or plan to read soon. Likewise, while we don’t anticipate this will impact the site’s content; that said, it’s never a bad idea to back up important things, such as story comments.
What’s the Security Solution You’re Implementing?
A very common, highly trusted, and broadly used security solution called Cloudflare. It’s the same that AO3 implemented following their DDoS attack. We have completed troubleshooting this solution on our test site.
How Did You Troubleshoot?
Once we got Cloudflare up and running, the Mods went to the test site and tried to break it. We wanted to replicate the errors we initially experienced, like the Forbidden/Forbidden 403 error message. A solution that works for only some people isn’t a viable long-term solution.
This is an imperfect process, but we were able to post stories, comments, news items, images, emojis, and all other normal archive activity without incident, while maintaining the strictest security settings available on the back-end.
What Happens if I Still Experience an Error Once Everything Is Back Up?
All members should continue reporting any unusual errors, messages, and so forth as they occur to [email protected].
How Do I Stay Updated While The Site Is Down?
Important updates will be made on all of EF’s active social platforms: Instagram, Bluesky, Threads, and Facebook. You may also join our Discord server. Please note that only EF members are allowed in the Discord server, and your server name must match your EF username.
Why Was EF Targeted?
No clue, and we’re not going to speculate on who is behind it or their motives. Doesn’t matter — Spuffy always walks through the fire and emerges stronger. So will we.

you really can’t unsee american military propaganda in movies like once you start thinking about it you are doomed to be the friend who’s too political when people put on an action movie for the rest of your life

alternative 'dark willow' inspired by this post because...yeah, it would've been SO impactful for willow to just look like willow during her villain arc.

you’ve got to the admire the restraint Spike demonstrates in season 6. he spends basically all of season 5 and 6 being teased, shunned, and ragged on for loving/obsessing over Buffy, beaten over the head again and again by every single person on how she will never love him back and that he has exactly zero chance with her and she would never stoop so low as to deign to like a monster like him. and then she does. she trusts him with her secrets and her family and her pain and her body and her passion and her insecurity and he doesn’t tell a soul. he lets Buffy keep those parts of herself safe and hidden with him, and he keeps his word to guard the secret, no matter how much hate he gets or how much it hurts.

i just caught up to buffy death in the angel series and honestly for the man who's supposedly the love of her life, i was expecting like a full breakdown. isolation, zoning out, tears, heavy brooding
instead he says her death didnt kill him??? that he's handling it fine???
like dawg wtf??? how come the guy she was having an affair with was more distraught and counting every day she was gone like a total loser he is
like i get it if angel was like silently grieving, missing her a lot cuz ik everyone grieves in different ways but after making that comment. was bro even grieving heavily after losing her??
anyway its so crazy to see the two different reactions

oh my god the pain in 7x02 when Spike makes it abundantly clear he thinks his only use for Buffy is to be her punching bag or sex toy. that he is in agony with the spark of his burning soul and the constant turmoil of his mind but it's okay because "it's what you wanted, right?" no wonder Buffy cries to see it.

not Riley telling on himself that he only needs 20 minutes (not including getting to his room, undressed and dressed again, and back to class in time) to have sex with Buffy. the girl known for her stamina and going all night - no wonder she feels like she has to patrol and slay to burn off her extra energy 😂
