new york. she tries not to think about how far andie has travelled, only to have her meeting assigned to someone who doesn't work in this building. for a moment she's spiraling with worry and pulling at a loose string on the sleeve of her sweater but taking andie's hand in hers and seeing some of her own nerves reflected in her face she feels grounded.
"call me ellie," gesturing towards the projector and then the seats, "did you have a presentation or were you just looking for a chat?" she'd heard the horror stories from cj and josh about the kind of people who came to talk but a resource center and shelter that sounded promising. in fact, it sounded like the exact type of cause she would love to support.
there's no fucking reason that andie should be here. this is crazy. she's certifiably crazy. two too many hits to the head probably, that's what did it.
what does she know about politics? or government funding? or even giving a presentation? nothing! that's what she knows: nothing. this isn't even what she does for feast. may does outreach. may should be here— she should call may.
the chance never presents itself because that's the moment that elenor bartlet walks in and introduces herself. and, honestly? she seems nice. maybe andie was freaking out for nothing. sure it's the white house and politicians, but elenor bartlet has a kind smile, like she really wants to listen and help. "hi, ms. bartlet." is there a title andie's supposed to be using? she doesn't know. andie just offers out a hand to shake and a bright smile and hopes it's enough. "my name's andie. thank you so much for meeting with me." really, she's not even sure if this is the kind of thing you meet about? but governments help non-profits, right? is she prepared for this? she should have done more research. "i'd love to talk to you about feast—it's a non-profit resource center and homeless shelter in new york. i think you could help us do a whole lot of good."

PROMPTS FOR PRE ESTABLISHED CONNECTIONS AND CREATING HISTORY BETWEEN CHARACTERS *  assorted dialogue for giving your characters a history and giving them past things or events to talk about, adjust as necessary
do you remember what i told you last time?
have you been doing well since i saw you?
that's not what you told me back then.
when was the last time i saw you?
you were shorter then.
i'm picking the restaurant this time.
we've known each other since we were children.
always knew i could count on you.
that time was different. this is worse.
you're not going to let me live that down, are you?
i seem to remember a conversation we had back then.
so you changed your mind about it?
do you remember our encounter in paris?
you should know me by now.
am i the only one that knows the truth?
we had a lot of help back then.
your mom told me to look out for you.
you just love bringing that back up to annoy me.
maybe don't mention my past indescretions?
this was never going to work out between us.
i told you not to get attached.
i know more about you than you think.
i was there, remember?
i'm not about to forget all the shit you put me through.
you told me you were going to try and make this work.
remember what i said to you?
the last time i saw you, things were good between us.
you never mentioned this before.
that was the longest flight of my life, and you made it worse.
can i still trust you after all that?
at least we tried to make something work.
we never discussed what happened between us.
okay, but i'm driving the car this time.
i haven't forgotten what you said last week.
i'm still thinking about your comment.
i didn't realize it was you when i first saw you.
you seem to make a lot of enemies around here.
there's not much for us to talk about.
we worked it out last time.
i know you far better than you know yourself.
we have a long history.
is that the shirt you were wearing last time?
what don't i know about you?
i haven't told them about us.
you were the only person i could go to.
you know me.
this is bigger than both of us.
i can't stand your driving.
are you taking me to the place we had dinner last time?
that's not at all what you said.
didn't we agree on that?
i thought i made it very clear where i stand.
are these the same people that came after you last time?
are you still going on about it?
can we talk about it?
staying silent about it won't help.
you're the only person who knows the real me.
this is a bad time to talk about your problems.

her smile fades, "issue?" before ainsley can get another word in, fast talker or not, she is through the doorway with it shut behind her. the odds that someone walks past is beyond low, she's sure half the white house don't even know this floor exists but one can never be too careful. "what issue?"
ainsley hayes, super legal machine.
if her current title weren’t impressive enough, she might just print that on her business card. ainsley hayes, white house legal counsel. not too shabby for a girl from north Carolina. ❛ Maybe... but let's keep that between us girls — top secret, like the little issue i came here to discuss. ❜

she has seen amelia talk in public. the way she charms seemingly as easily as she breathes and how interviewers smiles grow with each answer she gives. it's hard not feel a little jealous or bitter. even with her offering to help and when she knows the work that goes on behind the scenes. has watched her own father go several rounds with advisors over details that seem incidental to her. "you might find me a hopeless student but practice does make sense."
She thinks for a long moment before she comments, her tone gentle and understanding. “Sometimes we all need a little extra courage when being true to who we are, especially when people expect us to be certain things.” A smile curved the edges of her lips. “You could always practice with me, if you need to. Isn't that how the saying goes? Practice makes perfect.”

"the diner exploding probably would have been covered by the news somewhere, but the other two work," diligently starting to rummage through for the blue dress. aisling always looks good in it besides any sign that she will actually leave the bed and go with her needs encouraging. "some minor fundraiser, i promise all we need to do is show our faces for an hour at most. there's an open bar and mum said they hired they caterer you couldn't stop gushing about." @clochanam
Tumblr media
" we're sick. we both have headaches. " she feels a leg move out from beneath the duvet, foot dipping to meet the floor, and groans as she glides out of the bed and shuffles obediently towards the wardrobe, peering at the stripes of different hanging clothes. " the diner exploded and we both need to rebuild it. what about the blue dress? OH! we have to help the kids with their homework! see? i can't not come up with excuses! what even is the event? "

she rubs her temple with a tired smile, clearly impressed but overwhelmed, not quite sure how arriving for a weekend at the residence had led to her leaning against the doorway for the steam pipe distribution venue listening to the newest white house counsel. she could see why her dad liked her. or at least how she had impressed him enough to offer her the job. “you make it sound like you’re some kind of superhuman legal machine, and i'm not entirely sure that's untrue.”
@ve1ljumpers | I can talk so fast it won't actually take measurable time.

a not insignificant part of her considers walking back through the door and pretending she never saw clara, memories of the last piece of trouble she joined her for enough for the hairs on her arm to rise. but with the fear comes a sense of exhilaration and joy that not even her research can create.
Tumblr media
"you know i haven't, but i assume they aren't from earth?"
at her name, she offers a cheeky little wave, crooked smile dimpling in the corner.
Tumblr media
what is she doing here? the question of the century. if the doctor was still around — if she was more than an echo in his memories — he'd say she was acting foolish. but he isn't here, and she officially gets to call the shots now.
❛⠀ ever heard of the slitheen? ⠀ ❜

the grin that grows as she looks at the other woman across the top of her glass is bright and wide, "perhaps scolding was a bit dramatic, i'll settle for gentle ribbing between new friends." with an eyebrow raised in hope she offers the rim of her glass for a nat to clink her beer bottle against. "besides didn't you know medical students only know how to work hard and play hard."
"Oh," Nat's mouth pulls into a grin before she takes another drink from the beer bottle in her hand. "Is that what you consider this? A scolding? Guess I gotta work on my bedside manner, doc."
She laughs, amused with herself and maybe a little surprised to see Ellie out so late. "All I was gonna say is that it might be a little past your bed time."
