Regulus always dreaded the first day of classes. Even when he sent out emails to professors explaining his situation, there were still always a few who ‘forgot’ or ‘didn’t see’ or worse, out-and-out refused to accommodate him. Since his parents were paying for his schooling, he couldn’t register as Regulus, so he was forced to do this every time…to come out, to explain why he had a girl’s name on his file and a girl’s name as his email. Sure, it was great to get a free education, but the little pinpricks of pain every time his deadname was mentioned ate at him more and more as the months went on.

It was the worst when he got Professors like these.

Walking into Philosophy of Education, he could immediately tell that this course would be a problem. The pastel pink decor was like something out of primary school, not University, and the toad-faced Professor had pre-made nametags for all of them to place on their desks so she could get to know their names.

Of course, Regulus’s did not say his name. 

He edged over to the Professor, heart already hammering in his throat. “Erm…Professor? I know I’m registered as R–” he began, only to be cut off by a stern glance. 

“No nicknames or name changes,” the short woman said, sickly sweet, before gesturing back to the waiting tag. “Unless, of course, it is approved by the registrar.”

He swallowed thickly and tried to ignore the dysphoria creeping over the back of his neck. He considered fighting it, but only one other professor offered this class, and that section was full this semester. He didn’t want to risk failing or falling behind. So, stomach roiling, he reached for the nametag, only for it to be snatched away by a large, tan, muscular hand.

Scowling, he looked up, only to lock eyes with the most attractive man he’d ever seen in his life. 

“Hi,” the man grinned, flashing a pearly-white smile at him, eyes twinkling behind round, wire-framed glasses. “This one’s mine. That one’s yours.” He gestured to the only other nametag left, which read James Potter.

Before Regulus could react, the Professor butted in. “Mister Potter, that is not your name!” she admonished the taller man, crossing her arms and scowling, pointing to the nametag in Potter’s hand. 

But Potter just laughed. “True,” he said, smirking and waving Regulus’s nametag. “But this isn’t his name, either, and you have no problem calling him by it. 

And with that, he walked over to an empty table, plopping down in a seat, and gesturing for Regulus to join him.

What if that brother is evan? I feel like Evan's and regulus' friendship is not talked about enough.

They would be close friends since they were kids and they're parents would force them to go to these family meetings and Regulus was forced to wear dresses.

evan though, frankly, the closet was glass, the first person they came out to was eachother. Regulus saying he was actually a boy and later on that he fancied potter. And evan confessing that he might be asexual.

They're friendship is not loud, but rather it is quiet. both are very closed off and have built high walls around themselves but they are their true selves around eachother. Evan can be loud, sure, but that's really when he's around barty, he mirrors his personality.

They're both quiet and introverted. They spend most of their time reading. Either for school or enjoyment. Plus, they had close relationships with teachers. They were the favourites

Regulus and evan often smoke and gossip together. They know everybody's business. They're so close that they can understand eachother with a single look.
