Objects in motion will stay in motion until something stops them. And here, we're seeing that motion relative to the train!

When you're standing in a train, you're going the same speed and direction as the train. So when you jump in place you'll keep going that same speed/direction and land in the same spot (relative to the train). But if you take a running leap, you'll land a few feet away from where you started.

That's what's happening with the bike stunts here. He's moving pretty fast relative to the train, so he can get pretty far.

The trick here is, he's going in the opposite direction of the train, at the same speed as the train. From the POV of someone on the train, that just means he's moving fast. But from the POV of someone on the ground, his speed and the train's speed cancel out and he appears to be staying in one place.

it's so funny on here sometimes you make a post and it gets 5k notes and then later that same day you see some post made two hours after yours, clearly vaguely about your post, taking an opposite stance, and you're like "hang on. are we in an argument?" and then you can remember people can counter your opinions without wanting to beat you to death with their fists in real life. they can just disagree with you. believe it or not. i know we've all been on the internet a long time so we're scared. but it turns out sometimes someone reads your posts and thinks "i don't agree. i'll make my own post" and they haven't hired assassins to pull out your teeth.

I had THE most impeccable dream last night.

I noticed you answered a question about an unexpected nest of construction workers outside someone's home. This morning there was a fire in my apartment complex, and the smoke attracted a large flock of firefighters. We were expecting them to fly over, do their usual rituals, and carry off the fire to eat later. The fire is gone now, and there's only water to deal with, but it looks like they've built a temporary nest in the parking lot and it's scaring off local symbiotic species (managers, caretakers, janitors, maintenance) while attracting parasitic visitors (cops, landlords, rubberneckers). Is there anything I can do to encourage the firefighters (loud and messy, but incredible plumage! so friendly!) to pack it up, so we can get rid of their toxic worsties?

if you start another larger fire nearby, they will be attracted to that one and will abandon their current site.

I like the idea of a Vulcan character who constantly does very reckless things so her human crewmates think she's strange but then she always has a logical explanation she delivers with absolute confidence.
