It was a quiet night in Santa Carla, sitting in the armchair by the window, her gaze shifting from one Emerson sibling to another. Across from her, Michael and Sam lounged on the couch; their eyes vacant as if they were miles away.

There mother was bustling around with plates of snacks, setting up a game in the dinning room; preparing for her new “boyfriend” and his children to come over. Mom told us it would be good to have some “quality time” together, and that Michael was close friends with Max’s children.

Little did they notice Sam and Michael eyes connected, sharing worrisome looks between each other.
