anecdote time

until the other day, the only comments i’ve received from friends & strangers alike on my planned parenthood t-shirt have been along the lines of “hey sick shirt!” on monday evening though, i was finagling my way down a busy midtown street when a man walking towards me outstretched his arm, wagged his finger in my face and said “may god forgive you”. my perception of this was delayed by a couple of seconds since my mind was elsewhere so i stopped in my tracks to process what was just said to me. 

having lived in nyc my whole life, screaming passerbys are no surprise to me and i’ve been conditioned to pay them no mind. this however stood out, partly because it was directed right at me and perhaps it was the straw that broke the camel’s back; the camel being my silently growing frustration at hateful people who use god as a justification. i always think it must be so stressful to have such an angry god. like how are you not constantly having aneurysms thinking about all the people you’re supposed to hate?

i turned around to make sure this man was real, and he turned back at me and kept exclaiming, “may god forgive you! may god forgive you!” for the first time in this sort of situation, i responded. in my brooklyn accent that only comes out when i’m drunk, i called out “hey do me a favor and go fuck yourself arite?” i can laugh about it now but that was actually really stupid and i’m so thankful he didn’t come after me. furious, i continued about my way when this doofy frat boy businessman walking in front of me turned around wide-eyed. i fruitlessly tried engaging him and was like “may god forgive me? did i ask him to say that to me? like did i ask him though?” and the doof quickly responded “no” and shifted his focus back to his phone. 

i was headed towards manhattan graphics center to get some work done. when i was signing out to leave at the end of the night, i said goodnight to the monitor at the front desk and she said “get home safe”. i said the same back and cried in the elevator.

hey y’all! i’m moving in a few months so i thought this would be a great time to make it known that i’m selling my prints. unfortunately i’m out of banners and air freshners (the screen printed ones) but there will be more in the future! posters are also all gone, but there are a ton of etchings and screen prints that have been cooped up in the shadows in my room for way too long. if you’re interested, g’head and peruse the old cargo and please feel free to hit me up with literally any questions, obv regarding price but also sweet deals if you see more than one thing that you’d like to snag! i’d also be more than happy to answer questions about process and materials n just like have a nice chat about printmaking or like whatever the fuck honestly ahahahaha.

Over the next two years, rockabillies, mods, goths, rude girls, skinheads, rastas and more posed for Corbin and opened up about what it was like to be a young woman navigating an alt scene, and the importance of female friendships.
