The flying buttresses of the Milan Cathedral.
The Milan Cathedral, otherwise known as Duomo di Milano in Italian, is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. Its construction began in 1386, but work on the cathedral was stopped in 1402 due to a shortage of funds. Finally it was Napoleon Bonaparte who helped to finance the construction in 1805 and flying buttresses, pinnacles and spires were added to the roof.
