For over four hours, the body of a 69-year-old man lay by the playground of a block of houses in Szczecin, Poland. The body was carelessly covered with a blue blanket. Children saw the corpse and continued to play with their friends.

Shoko Asahara, mastermind of Tokyo Subway Sarin Attack.

Chizuo Matsumo is more known as Shoko Asahara, the founder of Aum Shinrikyo. Aum Shinrikyo was the Japanese doomsday cult that were responsible for the Tokyo Subway Sarin attack in 1995. Asahara was born March 2nd in 1955 and was executed by hanging in July 6th in 2018. He was sentenced to death in 2004, but it was postponed due to more members of the cult being arrested.

Asahara was born into a large poor family with infantile glaucoma that made him partially lose sight in his right eye and lose all sight in his left one. He was put in a school for blind where he became a bully that beat students to extort money from them. After graduating he decided to study acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, although his dream was to work in politics. Asahara was soon married and later fathered 12 children. It was around 1981 that Asahara found his interest in religion, this he did in his free time as he was also trying to support his growing family.

Shoko Asahara formed Aum Shinsen no Kai in 1984 and changed his name from Chizuo Matsumoto. Asahara’s mission was to take others’ sins upon himself. He mixed buddhism and hinduism with doomsday prophecies from different religious books, claiming that Armageddon was necessity for human relief. Asahara also claimed that he could he could transfer spiritual powers to his followers, saying that after a trip to Himalaya in the mids 80s he had gained the ability to levitate and walk through doors. He claimed that he was “Christ” and his doomsday visions were said to become more frequent after the failure of becoming a politician.

His group was legally recognized as a religious corporation in 1989 and gained credibility by appearing on TV, magazines and being invited to different lecture-meetings. Aum Shinrikyo became one of the quickest growing religious groups in Japan, having as many as 10 000 members at one point. Meanwhile they were making and storing chemicals as preparation for the domesday and the attack on the subway was a way to trigger the end of the world.The attack was carried out on March 20th, 1995, when members of the cult spread the nerve gas sarin into the Tokyo Subway. As a result thirteen people died and more than 6,000 were injured. Asahara was pointed out to be the mastermind behind the attack and it was theorised that he wanted to overthrow the government and become a leader himself. Other theories also claimed that the Aum trying to divert attention from themselves as well as Asahara being pointed out as the mind behind the Sakamoto family murder and the Matsumoto Incident. During his trial Asahara resigned as the leader of Aum.

Asahara was hanged on July 6th, 2018 along with six other cult members. The police expressed worry that his dead would lead to his followers would become dangerous, but the victims’ families said that they were happy that he was finally dead.

Students chase away man with knives at Scala College

On the 6th of March 2018, a man threatened students at the Scala College in Alphen aan den Rijn, the Netherlands with two knives. The students threw their bags at the man while he made stab movements in the direction of the students. The 44-year-old man was arrested by police moments later. Luckily, nobody got injured.

Lviv’s Yard of Lost Toys

Liviv, located in Ukraine, is the home to a makeshift museum consisting of old toys. In one of Lviv’s oldest neighbourhoods, Mukachivska, there is a shrine to childhood toys that have been left behind. This shrine started when a resident of Mukachivska, found a couple of discarded toys and decided to place them in the shared courtyard of the apartment block. They had hoped that whoever owned the toys would be back to retrieve them. However, they never did come back for the toys and over the forthcoming years, more and more discarded toys were added to the shrine. The collection is ever expanding, with some owners coming back to retrieve their forgotten belongings.

Mark Salling, 35 years old, has been found dead in a river in Los Angels where Salling lived. The police are not suspecting any crime or foul play, it’s very probable and likely that Salling committed suicide. Salling was arrested in november 2015 for possession of child-pornography and agreed to pay above $6000 to each victim. The official sentences had yet not been set, but it was said that Salling was facing between four to seven year in jail, with a following 20 years of surveillance. Mark Salling was famous for playing the character Noah Puckerman for 99 episodes of Glee.

Two brothers have been charged with several accounts of rape. One women testified about being threatened with violence and forced down into a garbage room where she was raped several times. The brothers also tried to get the victim’s friend to pay a ransom of at least 20 000 kr (estimated $2528). The men tried to claim that there was consent but court ruled out that the victim hadn’t consented or given any indication on playing along. The younger brother also claimed that there has been confusion of persons in the case that they have been convicted for. The older brother have been sentences to seven years and three months imprisonment. He was also convicted for another case of kidnapping and rape in a car. The younger brother got three years and three months imprisonment. Both will pay compensation fee from 155 000 to 275 000 ($19 592 - 34 760) to both women.

Bruce McArthur, 66 years old, has been arrested and is suspected to be a serial killer that was active in Toronto, Canada. He was suspected for killing two homosexual men, but is now also being suspected for killing another three homosexual men. The police found remains of the victims on McArthur’s property and there’s also suspicions of him placing the bodies in large pots at his commissioners’ places. More than 30 properties are now going to be searched as the police suspect that there are more victims. People from the LGBTQ-community in Toronto have shown worry about several disappearances for months but the police tried to calm down the worry about a serial killer being active. Investigator Hank Idsinga stated “We believe there are more and I have no idea how many more there are going to be” at a conference.

People Who Survived Their Executions 

Anne Greene. She was raped by her master’s grandson and gave birth to a child, which was stillborn. Greene tried to hide the body, but was accused of murder and sentenced to death. She was hanged, however, a day later physicians found out that Greene was still breathing.

Wenseslao Moguel. He was arrested during the Mexican Revolution. He was sentenced to death by firing squad. After 9 shots, he managed to survive. He escaped and had a wonderful long life. 

Willie Francis. When he was 16, Francis killed a drugstore owner. He was sentenced to death by electric chair. During the execution, he had seizures, he was screaming and crying. He survived. However, he was executed again a year later. 

John Smith. He was arrested after several robberies.  On 5 December 1705, Smith was accused of four indictments and was convicted of two of them, and was sentenced to death by hanging. He survived and  was granted freedom a few months later. This earned him the nickname of Half-hanged Smith.

John Henry George Lee. He was convicted of the brutal murder of his employer, Emma Keyse. Three attempts were made to hang him. But he survived. 

Zoleykhah Kadkhoda. She was found guilty of adultery and sentenced to death by stoning. After the execution, she was taken to the morgue where it discovered she was still alive. 

Joseph Samuel. In 1801, he committed several robberies and murders. He was hanged 3 times, but survived. His sentence was commuted to life imprisonment instead.

Maggie Dickson. She was convicted of killing her newly born baby. During the funeral, the lid of the coffin was seen to move, and Maggie was found to be alive. She lived for another 40 years.

William Duell. He was convicted of raping Sarah Griffin in London. He was sentenced to death by hanging.  His body was brought to the Surgeon’s Hall to be anatomised, when one student noticed that Duell was breathing.  His sentence was changed to penal transportation.

7 terrifying phases that serial killers experience

In the 1980s, a psychologist named Joel Norris identified seven psychological phases that serial killers experience as they commit their crimes. They offer a terrifying glimpse into the minds of those capable of unthinkable evil.

1. Aura Phase

The first phase serial killers experience is withdrawal from reality. It may go unnoticed by those closest to them, but life has lost all meaning for the killer. Their senses are heightened. Violent fantasies begin to form and they feel the urge to act on them.

2. Trolling Phase

This is the phase in which the killer starts to search for their victim as well as looking for a place to commit the crime or dump their body. This phase can last for months or just days, until the would-be serial killer has found the perfect victim.

3. Wooing Phase

This is when the killer sets out to gain the victim’s trust to put them at ease before attacking them. They may present themselves as charming, wanting to help – or harmless and in need to help themselves. This phase is experienced by only the most organised serial killers.

4. Capture Phase

In this phase, the killer reveals his true sadistic self. The victim becomes incapacitated, whether  knocked unconscious or restrained or trapped somewhere.

5. Murder Phase

This is the phase where the murder takes place. Organised killers often chose to kill their victims slowly, causing them much suffering and torture before they die. Whereas disorganised killers are more likely to kill their victims instantly and commit further acts, such as necrophilia or mutilation, on their corpses.

6. Totem Phase

In the totem phase, the thrill of the kill begins to dissipate for serial killers. To keep some of the excitement, they will often take a souvenir from their victims, such as the clothes they were wearing or newspaper stories about the crime. These serve to remind the killer of the moment they made their warped fantasy real.

7. Depression Phase

The final phase in the cycle. The anticlimax causes a depression in the serial killer who comes to feel that his fantasy was not properly fulfilled. Some may even kill themselves in this phase. Those who don’t, will soon begin to experience the violent fantasies of the aura phase and the cycle begins again…

31 year old Theresa Palmkvist was reported missing on March 13th. Exactly a week later her house in Långshyttan, Sweden was cordoned. The police did not find anything out of the ordinary and the missing woman’s cats were cared for. The following day, March 21, police launched a criminal investigation for kidnapping. The police came out with information that the last signs of Theresa being alive dated back to before Christmas. 27th March a body was found in the house, the body had been rolled and hidden in a rug in the basement. The finding was made by a police dog that had been called in from another district due to the lack of one in Långshyttan. Police believe that the female body that has been found is Theresa Palmkvist, the case has now changed from one regarding kidnapping to murder and a 30 year old man has been pointed out as a suspect. Today an autopsy is going to take place to find the cause of death.

Saturday the 10th May 2014, in Halmstad, Sweden, the body of 16 year old Albin Elinarsen was found by a joggar. The boy was found laying face down in a stream at the side of a forest trail. At first it was said that it had been a bad case of a falling accident, but soon enough the police found out that they were dealing with a murder case. Albin had a history of being harassed on the internet, he was a victim of horrible anonymous messages on his profile on the media site Ask.fm. One anonymous user had said ”Nu har du öppnat din feta mun för mycket! Ha ögon i nacken” (Translation: Now you have opened your fat mouth too much! Have eyes in the back [Watch your back- threat] )

Today an detention hearing is being held today on a possible suspect, the man in question is 20 years old and has a history of assault. 

The police has not realsed any details about how Albin was killed or under what circumstances. The case is still open and ongoing.
