my son (23 mo) had a playdate with my friendâs little boy (16 mo) today and they basically just fought over toys the whole time until they saw a worm. at this point they realized it was time to just their differences aside, sit down, and look at the worm. together.

are all animals dangerous?
every animal has the potential to be dangerous under certain circumstances. for instance, a dog could bite you, a moth could distract a UPS driver into plowing through your living room window, you could inhale and choke on an earthworm.

Why why does every UX designer eventually contract the brain parasite which makes them think frosted glass is a good idea in computer interfaces. It always looks sexy in the demo videos (which the designer controls completely) and then is a friggin mess in the real world where any kind of chaotic text or images could be right behind the glass, making the UI elements unreadable.
It happened on Windows and it happened on Linux, and both times it had to get walked back in disgrace, but those were both 20 years ago, and they had the excuse that nobody had done it before since GPUs only just became powerful enough, so they couldn't know what a mess it would be in practice. Apple doesn't have that excuse.

SPY x FAMILY has a really fun way of making sure âThe Big Guyâ (Yor) doesnât solve everything in 5 seconds.
A lot of other stories tend to keep The Big Guy from fixing everything by just writing them out entirely, but itâs honestly kinda trite.
âOh no, Superman ran into the nth person with Kryptonite! Can the Justice League still save the day?â
âOh no, Storm got knocked out by a sneak attack. Guess the X-Men canât count of her really strong weather powers today.â
âOh no, Gokuâs out of town and he canât reach us yet! Will the others survive long enough for him to make it back?â
But Yor tends not to get written out of the plot that deliberately. She just has zero context for anything thatâs going on.
She thinks that sheâs living with a kindly widower and his adorable (totally not adopted a week ago) daughter, and thatâs basically it for the Forgers. Loid and Anya keep her 100% in the dark, so they never fill her in on the situation because Loid assumes that sheâs just a civilian and Anya just really needs this family to stick together.
Loid and Anya have to worry about terrorists and enemy spies and everything while Yorâs just going about her day and feeling peachy keen.
But the second she realizes that someoneâs trying to hurt her loved ones:
This is the woman who kicked a man through a metal ceiling. This is the woman who kicked another man so hard that he ricocheted off the walls of an alleyway like a pinball. This is the woman who can kick a car off the road without even trying.
(Side tangent, but Iâm only just now realizing how much kicking Yor does. Kicks for days.)
The narrative tension doesnât come from Yor being in a coma or being far away, itâs that Loid and Anya canât tell her whatâs happening because of their own secrets, so Yor only gets to step in when the situation is already out of their control. And when she does, she puts the fear of god into whoever theyâre facing.

Broke: Yor can safely consume pufferfish toxin because she's built up resistance to it as a side-effect of her super assassin training.
Woke: Yor can safely consume pufferfish toxin because it's not half as dangerous as the food she's been cooking for the last two decades.
