Bahrain activist @naderabdulemam sentenced for comments on twitter
Nader Abdulemam, aged 41, was sentenced to six months in prison by the Third Lower Criminal Court on 22 October for “publicly insulting a religious figure of worship” after posting comments on Twitter about Khalid bin al-Waleed, a companion of the prophet Muhammad and a renowned Islamic commander.
Nader Abdulemam was charged under article 310/2 of the Bahraini Penal Code which criminalizes “publicly insulting a symbol or person considered sacred to members of a particular religious sect”. Laws which prohibit criticism or ridicule of a religion or belief system are incompatible with the right to freedom of expression, which is protected under Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which Bahrain is a state party.

Bahrain PR company tries to micromanage media coverage of #TorturePrince
The five-day long effort by UK-based Bell-Yard Communications Ltd and London law firm Schillings was aimed at forcing this writer as well as The Huffington Post to adopt Bahrain's narrow and partial interpretation of the court decision on Nasser Bin Hamad. [..]
The lawyers and PR representatives sought to have removed any reference in this writer's article to a potential investigation or that immunity had played a role in the CPS's thinking despite the fact that the prosecution in a statement to the court agreed to the lifting of Prince Nasser's immunity in expectation that the Bahraini plaintiffs would submit further evidence.

State Information Minister calls for crackdown on social media
She called for the need to assign the regulation of the freedoms of opinion and expression through mass media to independent commissions, in accordance with the majority of international experiences in this regard, and regulate the use of social networks by more comprehensive laws and policies in order to ensure the exercise of individual freedoms. She pointed out that mass media are no longer means to inform and cover stories, but have become among the main tools to prepare for key battles. She emphasised that countries are also attacked and exhorted under the pretext of freedom of opinion and expression.
