A Perfect Sunday Evening

Sometimes, you do not have to plan for a perfect Sunday evening. It just happens if you have a good company accompanying you in doing what you love. Yesterday, at about 4:30pm, me Shravan and Akash set out for a ride. Akash had borrowed an 18 speed bike from his cousin. Since it was Akash’s first ride, he had difficulty in riding and keeping in pace with us. But, riding 31 km on a first ride was a big deal. Initially, me and Shravan had planned a ride to Bengre. But, later, we ended up going to the hanging bridge in Kemmannu.

The hanging bridge in Kemmannu is located across the river Suvarna, in the village of Tonse (west). This is an amazing quiet little village located 22 km from Manipal. The village is very scenic with fields on both sides of the road. To get to Tonse, we need to take a left in Santhekatte. Santhekatte, is a few kilometers north of Udupi on the National Highway 66.

Riding to Kemmanu was fun as it rained heavily. The rain never fails to make the ride better. Once we got to Kemmanu, we stayed there for sometime and walked across the bridge. We also met group of students from Manipal, who appreciated our enthusiasm for cycling all the way to Kemmanu.

On our way back from Kemmanu, it was dark. Riding in the dark was a unique and awesome experience. When we reached Santhekatte, we had some light snacks in a nearby shop. Though riding in dark is fun, it has its own problems. As we hit the Ambagilu junction,Akash, had his first fall as he could’nt make out a pothole in front of him. Though it was not a very hard fall, the fall did add to his problems as he was already tired.

When we reached home it was 8:30 pm. It was amazing and unique ride and a perfect end to a weekend!
