Infinite is a pretty tragic character in retrospect

- Leader of a group of Mercenaries, seemingly well respected/liked as well. ((Possibly liked given the fact the squad warned him about joining Eggman.))

-Grew tired of the world, just going through the motions, and wanted to change it. ((We still don't know if it's purely boredom or maybe something happened to him in the past.))

- Lost his entire squad, went back for revenge and was beaten once more.

- has a mental breakdown of sorts, screaming I'm not weak, leading him to a downward spiral of wanting to obtain power and be seen as powerful.

-ultimately, he gets so lost in his conquest for power that he ends up sucked inside the phantom ruby being well, dead.

The thing is though, I think Forces should've included his backstory instead of just putting it in a prequel comic separate from it. Even if we just have what we ended up getting, it gives some substance to Infinite's character and more for us to nibble on. I would love to see more of him explored. Cause he does work as a character, just the in game portrayal is pretty bad.

Putting things together, I always see Infinite as this character full of so much self hate, wanting to be something/someone else. Someone strong who doesn't fear anything. He seems to despise fear and weakness, even mocking it. I feel like the loss of the jackal squad was what really led to this downfall along with his greed for power making him fail to recognize his shortcomings. Like imagine, losing people you consider comrades and being powerless to stop it, and even terrified against the thing that took them. Like, he was supposed to be their leader, but he couldn't even save or avenge them. Though this is just from what we see. With Mephiles in Sonic x Shadow Gens, as well as the recent Mephiles Channel Art, I still think there's some sliver of hope we can see Infinite again. Even if it's just art. Just like Sonic Forces in general, Infinite still has a lot of potential that can be explored.
