Chapter 3: Magnus’s Night (part 1)

Story Summary: Cycle 1. As far as they know, they’re the only ones left. Perhaps it was inevitable that they’d consider… re-population. Lucretia writes up a weekly schedule to try and address that. Absolutely no one is happy with this.

Chapter 3: Magnus has a Plan.

Preview:

Tonight is his night with Lucretia. He’s looking forward to it, if nothing else because it has otherwise been a miserable day for Magnus Burnsides.

Breakfast was awful. Lup was beginning to actually terrify him, and he’s kinda glad the food wasn’t poisoned. Just to be safe, he declined the plate of rose apple slices placed in front of him. Lunch he avoided by grabbing a half-assed sandwich and heading outside, only coming back in when it began to downpour in the afternoon. The captain caught him on the way in for a private lecture, both warning and vaguely threatening him, and he had nodded and mumbled vague answers, unable to meet his eyes. He realized pretty quick it was best to avoid everyone, because, well, reasons, and so tried to make himself scarce on a ship that seemed smaller than when it was just him and Lucretia in the prior months. Speaking of, he hasn’t seen her all day, which sucks.

Dinner was equally awful, with Lucretia still notably absent and everyone else sullen and tense, with more than a few harsh glares sent his way. He can deal with it, though, as he excuses himself early and goes to the kitchen, taking the opportunity to steal more provisions: beans, salt, dried brown things that taste a bit like jerky, and the like. Taking extra food isn’t exactly against the rules, but it’s awfully close and everyone is already on a short fuse with him, so this is gonna get real ugly if he gets caught.

Lucretia and Magnus friendship during Stolen Century is good shit.

They seem so different, you got your wallflower bookworm who sits back and writes everything, and then you have Magnus Rushes In who wants to go pet every dog and punch things.

But they’re the two youngest of the crew, they’re Babies, and I can see them realizing after a point that they actually have a fair bit in common.

The moment Magnus realizes that Lucretia has a dirty, dry sense of humor is the moment he goes: oh shit that’s friend material

(also he is the Protector and he looks at her, all of like a hundred pounds soaking wet, and is extra protective, that good brother/sister energy)

If you go with the headcanon that Lucretia and Maureen were a couple (or headed that way, before her death) then fucking ow...

Imagine Lucretia having no one to talk to, no one to share her grief with and it’s just one more horrible thing, one more guilt to put on her shoulders, and then at last, once things are over and beginning to heal, she might finally be able to open up about what she lost. Magnus especially would be able to relate, both of them sharing their grief with the family they have left.

I’ve got this headcanon that Lucretia and Magnus (being the two young human members of the Starblaster crew) were best friends in a lawful good Yzma and Kronk sorta way.

God these are making me feel emotions... Magnus as the protector and just the idea of all of them thrown into this horrific situation and having to rely and depend on each other.

Merle said something about holding hands while the worm rocked their shit and it made me cry cuz ;-; yeah they prolly did that with the other birds too (bonus istus with a quote that will also never fail to make me tear up)
