So in case my essay's too long and y'all have trouble believing what I've said about "third genders".
Here's a thread about a WaPo article from 2016 that clearly was cribbing from Serena Nanda without citing her. Enjoy.
Bonus comment cuz I'm feeling MEAN

TW: murder, death threats, homophobia, transphobia.
the russian LGBT community is in deep shit right now.
a russian LGBT rights activist elena grigoryevna was recently found dead with 8 stab wounds near her home.

the police didn’t do anything about it, despite how many people called out for help.
there’s also a russian anti LGBT group called “pila” (“chainsaw”). a couple of months prior they published a hit list of LGBT activists from russia. elena was on the list. and so are other people who are related to the community in some ways.

they stated that they prepared some “cruel gifts” to the people on the list. the beauty blogger andrew petrov (whose name is also on it) recently made a post for his followers that shed more light on the situation.
another activist, andrew shituhin is a victim of this organization. the addresses of his family, along with other personal information got published on the website. earlier he got kicked out of his university. he immigrated to netherlands, although recently he came to a town near moskow to live for a bit. his friend, zhenia svetski, is aimed at by this organization. in a threatening email “pila” stated that he will be killed before august if andrew doesn’t help him to immigrate to netherlands.
all i’m asking for is to spread this post so that more people from other countries are aware of the situation.
also, i’m encouraging russian folks to add more information to this post in case if i missed anything. thank you.

Serendipity: This Man Made Up An Entire Personality For His Regular Barista, And She’s Perfect For Him
If you don’t believe in fate, here’s a story that’s sure to change your mind.
Every morning, Jake Gerber goes to his local café to grab a cup of coffee on his way to work. It’s not the place where you typically find a once-in-a-lifetime love, but incredibly, the stars aligned for Jake, and something amazing happened: He made up an entire personality for the woman who serves him coffee most days, and she’s absolutely perfect for him.
If you’re not tearing up right now, you’re essentially a robot.
The connection between Jake and the detailed personality he invented whole cloth for his barista was instantaneous. After making eye contact with the barista just once, he assumed she was the kind of girl who would want to walk home in bad weather just so she could dance in the rain, which is so refreshing because Jake is looking for a woman to counterbalance his more anxious personality. And when Jake noticed that she has more than one piercing per ear, he went ahead and decided that she is totally into The National, which just so happens to be his favorite band! Whoa!

South Korean Choir G-Voice Helps Gay Men Find Their Voice
On a recent Sunday afternoon, members of G-Voice met at their practice room in the small office of “Chingusai” or “Between Friends,” a Korean rights group for gay men.
Founded in 2003, the choir has been described as the “K-Pop of the human rights movement.” But their repertoire also includes traditional folk songs, as well as many original compositions, based largely on their experiences of being gay in Korea.
“Choral music is not about me shining through singing alone,” said Jeon Jae-woo, a founding member and the choir’s music director. “Rather, it’s the process of adjusting and harmonizing our voices and creating a chord.”
There are no protections for LGBTQ people in South Korea and discrimination remains widespread. Until 2003, homosexuality was classified as “harmful and obscene” under Korean law.

A Queer Culture Festival in Seoul last year drew more than 120,000 attendees, according to its organizers, but it was marred by protests and violence when anti-gay Christian groups stormed the event and assaulted participants, while police reportedly watched without interfering.
“The widespread culture of hatred in Korea is not only targeting queer people but rather any group of oppressed people,” Kang Myeong-jin, chief organizer of the Seoul Queer Culture Festival, told The Korea JoongAng Daily at the time. “Some people want to erase these oppressed groups from society. But we cannot be erased. We are here, and we need to be visible.”
Check out the full interview with G-Voice here.

Why ‘female-presenting nipples’ matter
When I was 10, my mom made me wear a bra and it felt like a punishment for being different.
When I was 10, I took the bra off when changing for gymnastics and accidentally dropped it in the school hallway. A teacher picked it up and said, “Oh, this must belong to you” and handed it back to me in front of everyone. I quit gymnastics.
When I was 11, I thought maybe the boobs would be okay so long as they didn’t get any bigger than would fit in my hand, so I kept measuring it, but they did.
When I was 12, I started wearing two or three sports bras to smush them down, until one day a classmate said, “Are you wearing two bras?!” while laughing.
When I was 13, a boy told me he wanted to squeeze my boobs “until they popped.”
When I was 14, I got cast in a play as an older character and a classmate told me I got the role because I had boobs.
When I was 17, my mom told me to return a swimsuit because it would be too distracting for my boyfriend’s father.
When I was 21, I got properly fitted for a bra and everyone felt the need to tell me how much better my boobs looked.
When I was 26, I got pregnant and my immediate fear was that my boobs would get bigger.
When I was 28, I got shamed for trying to feed my screaming baby in public without a cover.
When I was 28, people asked me “why are you bothering to use a breastfeeding cover?”
When I was 30, people gave me weird looks that I wasn’t yelling at my kid for putting their hand on my boob.
When I was 31, I avoided going to the beach or pool because I didn’t want to have to deal with boobs in a swimsuit.
When I was 32, I got asked, again, “why don’t you get a breast reduction?”
When I was 33, I watched a 5yo girl get shamed for running around in sweltering heat without a shirt on and had to reprimand a bunch of tween boys who thought it was okay to shame her for doing something they do all the time.
When I was 34, my kid kept patting my breast and saying “Mommy’s squishy breast!!” They will never see me express any shame about tits, because I want them to have a different mindset than I had. Yes, boobs are nice! They’re squishy! They’re fun! That’s the end of that.
I’m 35 and no longer give a fuck. I don’t care anymore. As a teenager my tits were covered in stretch marks. They’ve been engorged with milk. My nipple changed shape with pregnancy. Give it another couple decades and my breasts will probably be all wrinkly. It’s sexual when I’m using it sexually. I don’t fucking care, and I won’t be ashamed anymore.
Every time a policy or cultural hangup treats people with breasts differently, it fucks us over.
Tumblr’s new policy makes an active choice to participate in this culture of shame. By classifying “female-presenting nipples” as explicit material, Tumblr has taken a stance that any chest or breast that differs from a male default is worthy of shame and unavoidably sexual. The idea that breasts are shameful and unavoidably sexual is exactly what fucked me up for so much of my life.
Stop shaming people for having bodies.
