A mood. But I really don’t see the story moving that direction. Most likely she will end up with Oran or (hopefully) Pisces! I’d think either would be super good for Caledonia
I’m just gonna say it now: if Caledonia ends up in a relationship with the guy who left her for dead on a deserted island and murdered her entire family in front of her, I’m gonna punch myself in the face.

Seafire by Natalie C. Parker!!!!!!
I’ve read some truly splendid YA maritime adventures in the past few months— Isle of Blood and Stone by Makiia Lucier, The Girl from Everywhere by Heidi Heilig, and The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzi Lee. I love seeing this genre having a little swell—-there’s nothing like a good sea epic, especially with these new takes on them, full of girl gangs and found families and unusual twists like time-travel, dragons, or, in this case, sci-fi tech. It was like Six of Crows meets Treasure Planet meets Master and Commander…. with ladies! 😍
What are some of your favorite sea epics?

Caledonia in Seafire by Natalie C Parker
Sisterhood is survival
Possible spoliers -
The best part about this book is how fierce Cal and the other 50 girls of the ship are. Oran didn’t mock her or jest to get on her nerves (or flirt) like I’ve seen other male love interests (?) in YA do. He lowkey was scared of Cal and was very cautious when approaching her. Cal herself was so strong and never backed down (queen!). Her relationship with the girls were pure and amazing and healthy (no girl fights!). I also love the slow burn Cal and Oran has; she didn’t fall for him over a few chapters (I’m not even sure they might end together lol).

“Never underestimate the girls of this world”
This book is one of my new favourites, its so underrated and I love it so enjoy a moodboard no one asked for
“Take your ship, take your crew, and prove to that man that he has not quelled all of us. Prove that there is a fire on these seas he cannot contain.”

even with the ending of seafire, i'm still holding out hope that piscedonia is endgame
90 pages into Seafire, and I know I shouldn’t be getting my hopes up but if Caledonia doesn’t end up with Pisces, I’ll be absolutely heartbroken.
It’s an entirely female crew! You can’t tell me a good portion of them aren’t lesbians!
edit: the author is an lgbt+ woman! so fingers crossed, we might actually get the good stuff this time y’all <3

Hey y’all, I just finished Seafire today, and it was such a lovely book, and I’m looking forward to the sequel with bated breath! Here’s a non-spoilery list of reasons you should absolutely totally read it:
the main character, Caledonia, is the captain of a ship, with an entirely female crew of 53
the captain is an amazing and capable protagonist who nevertheless has flaws. she grows and matures as a person over the course of the book, and i’m excited to see what she does through the rest of the series
female friendship is a hugely important theme in this book. there’s so much casual affection between the girls on the crew, and you can really tell how much they love each other.
Cala has a really close relationship with her best friend Pisces, and they regularly refer to each other as sisters
at no point in the book are any of Cala’s girls ever pitted against each other over the love of a boy!
Cala and Pisces and all the girls of the crew each have their own trauma, and their own ways of dealing with their trauma that fits with their characters
family is another really strong theme in this book. cala’s motivation isn’t romance, it’s her family, both bio and chosen, and i found myself connecting very strongly with that
