Vast stretches of serene pine forests, steep gorges, some of the largest reservoirs and hundreds of remarkable caves characterise the enthralling Rhodope Mountains. The region remains one of Bulgaria's wildest and is known for its unique local culture and cuisine. We plan to spend a significant amount of time in 2020 exploring the mysterious Rhodopes and will continue to share with you its charm and beauty 🏞️ #rhodope #balkanity #explorebulgaria (at Rhodope Mountains) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-5APEYDBVr/?igshid=1p3whkulqxie

Three hours from Sofia, in the heart of the Balkan Mountains, a potholed road twists its way up Mount Buzludzha, leading to "Bulgaria's UFO." • Rising from the top of the hill, this perplexing concrete structure can be seen for kilometers, inspiring an anxious excitement in those laying eyes on it for the first time. • A red star, the symbol for communism, glares over the valley from the top of its 70-meter-high tower. The expansive, spaceship-like base is straight out of an early science fiction movie. The UFO reference is justified. Officially named the House-Monument of the Bulgarian Communist Party, but better known as the "Buzludzha Monument," it's been attracting urban explorers from around the world since the mid-1990s. • While hundreds of abandoned communist memorials are scattered all over the Balkans, few hold quite as much intrigue. A journey to the Buzludzha Monument passes through picturesque farmlands and bucolic villages. With no public transport connecting this part of Bulgaria, a visitor's only option is book your trip to Buzludzha with Balkanity 😉 #explorebulgaria #buzludzha (at Buzludzha) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-zY2BajNFp/?igshid=581jbzklovvy

Bulgaria is famed for its sun and skiing destinations. But it is also a country of wild and untamed nature, which visitors can easily experience in world-class UNESCO national parks. With breathtaking glacial lakes, waterfalls, plenty of animal and plant-life species and even a tree over 1350 years old, its hard to beat Bulgaria for natural beauty. #explorebulgaria #balkanity #bulgariannature (at Pirin National Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-uvQysjxKe/?igshid=otwjjzxa02qt

Pirin Mountains, famous with the jagged, rocky peaks and glacial lakes, turned out to be the perfect place for stargazing. The photo was taken during a Pirin tour we took for the peak of the Perseid meteor shower in August 2019. What an experience! 🌠 📸: @hakunamatatadontworrybehappy #explorebulgaria #perseids #pirin https://www.instagram.com/p/B-kO3kIjdQa/?igshid=1dxkb8pl0didw
